Frequently Asked Questions - WSC160 Waring Commercial

How to prepare the plate before first use?
Scrub the plate with steel wool and detergent to remove the protective coating. Then heat it fully, then apply 8 coats of corn or peanut oil, wiping between each coat until the plate becomes amber and smooth.
What oil to use for the non-stick treatment?
Use corn oil or peanut oil (or other frying oil). Do not use synthetic oils or non-stick sprays.
How to adjust the temperature for cooking crepes?
Turn the thermostat to the desired level. The Ready (green) light turns on when the plate reaches the temperature. For classic crepes, use about 380°F (193°C).
What to do if the crepe sticks to the plate?
Make sure the plate has been properly prepared with the non-stick treatment. If it still sticks, slightly increase the temperature or add a little oil to the plate before pouring the batter.
Can I use metal utensils on the plate?
No, only use the provided scraper and spatula. Metal utensils could damage the non-stick surface.
How to clean the crepe maker after use?
Wait until the plate is warm, then clean it with warm water and detergent. Never pour cold water on a hot surface. Do not immerse the appliance. The spatula and scraper are dishwasher safe.
Can I immerse the appliance in water?
No, to avoid any risk of electric shock, never immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid. Clean only with a damp cloth.
What to do if the Ready light does not turn on?
Check that the appliance is plugged in and the thermostat is not set to MIN. If the Power (red) light is on but the Ready light does not turn on, there may be a heating issue. Contact customer service.
Can I use an extension cord?
Yes, but use an extension cord with electrical specifications at least equal to those of the appliance (120V, 1800W). Do not let the cord hang over the edge of the table.
How to avoid bubbles in the crepe batter?
Make sure the plate is hot and evenly oiled. Use a smooth batter without lumps. The initial non-stick treatment also helps avoid bubbles.

USAGE

Every crêpe maker needs to be seasoned before first-time use.

The seasoning process will last about 1 to 1 12 hours.

Seasoning is an important step to prepare the surface for a natural nonstick finish. It makes removal of the crêpes easier and reduces bubbling when batter is applied and spread.

  1. There is a protective coating on the cooking surface. Scrub the surface with steel wool and detergent to remove the coating and pre-clean prior to the seasoning process.
  2. Plug unit into outlet in a well-ventilated area.
  3. Switch on the appliance and set to 570irc F. Allow to heat until green READY light is lit.
  4. Pour about a tablespoon of corn or peanut oil suitable for frying in the center of the cooking surface. Using a cotton cloth or paper towel (synthetic materials will adhere to the surface), spread the oil evenly and let cook for 5 to 10 minutes until the surface loses its initial sheen and appears dry.
  5. Repeat step 4 eight times, burnishing the surface with the towel and decreasing the amount of oil used each time until a deep amber color and smooth, non-tacky surface are developed.

OPERATION

  1. Plug the cord into a 120V outlet. The red POWER light will illuminate to show that the unit is on.
  2. Turn the thermostat knob to the desired temperature. Once the temperature is reached, the green READY light will illuminate.

  3. Pour batter on middle of cooking surface and use the batter spreader to spread the batter evenly. Once the crêpe is cooked to desired browning on the bottom side, use the spatula to flip the crêpe and cook the other side. Use the spatula to remove the crêpe when finished cooking. For best results, wipe excess batter off of spreader in between crêpes.

  4. After cooking, turn the thermostat to MIN.

SAFETY

CAUTION: UNPLUG FROM OUTLET WHEN NOT IN USE!

Please note that the unit will still be too hot to handle immediately after use.

The crêpe maker has a thermal cutoff safety device to avoid overheating. If the crêpe maker shuts off automatically, unplug it and allow it to cool. Plug back in and continue use.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

The Waring Commercial Crêpe Maker should be cleaned after each use with warm soapy water. The exterior of unit may be cleaned by carefully wiping with a damp cloth.

Clean cooking surface while the unit is warm, using warm soapy water. DO NOT USE COLD WATER ON WARM SURFACE.

Do not immerse completely in water to clean. The appliance is not to be cleaned with a water jet.

Spatula and Spreader are dishwasher safe.
