How to use the kettle for the first time?

Before first use, clean the inside and all parts with warm soapy water. Fill the kettle at least half full, plug it in and set the desired temperature. Then discard the heated water to remove any residues.

How to adjust the water temperature?

Use the temperature control knob: positions 1 to 5 for approximate temperatures from 39°C to 90°C, and HIGH for 100°C. The heating indicator lights up and goes off when the temperature is reached.

What to do if the water does not heat up?

First check that the appliance is plugged in and switched on. If the power indicator is on but the water does not heat, the thermostat may be faulty. Contact a qualified technician. If the appliance does not turn on, check the thermal circuit breaker (see question on reset).

How to clean the outside of the kettle?

Unplug the appliance and let it cool down. Clean the outside with a damp cloth soaked in soapy water, then dry thoroughly. Never immerse the appliance.

How to descale the kettle?

Pour a suitable descaler dissolved in water inside the kettle. Gently brush with a soft bristle brush, then discard the solution. Fill with clean water, heat and rinse abundantly. Repeat every three months.

What to do if the tap leaks?

Tighten the tap handle. Check that the tap is fully screwed in before use. If the leak persists, contact a qualified technician.

How to reset the thermal circuit breaker?

Empty the appliance and let it cool down. Locate the reset button under the appliance, then press it until it clicks. Make sure the appliance is empty and cold before resetting.

Can I leave the kettle running unattended?

No, never leave the appliance unattended. It is also not recommended to operate it with less than one third of its capacity.

What are the essential safety precautions?

Place the appliance on a flat, stable surface. Do not immerse it. Exterior surfaces get hot, do not touch them during operation. Always unplug the appliance after use. Use only indoors.

How to completely empty the kettle?

Use the tap to drain the water. Pull the tap towards you to pour, then lift the handle to close it. Ensure the appliance is unplugged and cooled before moving it.

Introduction

BUFFALO prides itself on quality and service, ensuring that at the time of packaging the contents are supplied fully functional and free of damage.

Should you find any damage as a result of transit, please contact your BUFFALO dealer immediately.

Operation

1. Remove the appliance from the packaging. Make sure that all protective plastic film and plastic coatings are thoroughly removed from all surfaces.

Note: Before using for the first time, clean the interior of the appliance and all parts in warm soapy water, then rinse thoroughly.

1. Ensure the Temperature Control knob is set to '0' and tthe power switch is 'Off'.
2. Remove the lid and fill the appliance to at least half of its capacity.
3. Replace the lid.
4. Connect to the mains power supply and turn the power switch On. The Power Indicator light illuminates.
5. Set the Temperature Control knob to the required temperature. The Heat Indicator illuminates and the appliance heats the water.

WARNING: Reduce the set temperature if the the water begins to boil. DO NOT allow the water to boil constantly.

1. When the water has reached the set temperature the Heat Indicator light turns Off.

Note: Once the water temperature drops 5-10°C then the appliance will reheat the water.

WARNING: If the Temperature Control Knob is set to or close to '100' then the appliance will constantly heat the water until the power switch is turned Off or the temperature is reduced.

Thermal Cut-Out Reset

This appliance is fitted with a Thermal Cut-Out safety feature. Should the temperature exceed safe levels the appliance will automatically cut power.

The Safety Cut-out switch is located on the underside of the appliance. To reset the appliance:

1. Empty the appliance and allow to cool.
2. Press the reset button until it clicks.

WARNING: Ensure the appliance has cooled down and is empty before resetting the switch, as it may need to be tipped slightly to gain access to the switch.

1. The appliance is now reset and can be used as normal.

Serving

1. Place a suitable vessel beneath the tap.
2. Pull the tap towards you to begin pouring.
3. Raise the tap handle to close the tap.

Emptying the Appliance

Drain the appliance by using the tap to empty.

Cleaning, Care & Maintenance

• Always turn off and disconnect the appliance from the power supply before cleaning.
• Use soapy water and a damp cloth to clean the exterior of the appliance.
  • Dry thoroughly after cleaning.

Descaling

In hard water areas lime scale can build up within the appliance after prolonged use. To descale the appliance:

1. Pour a solution of descaler and water into the appliance.
2. Brush the interior gently with a soft bristled brush.
3. Discard the solution collected in the jug.
4. Fill the appliance with clean water and turn back On to flush out the system.

Flush out the system thoroughly to remove any descaler residue.

1. The appliance is now ready for use.

Note: Use a suitable descaler and always follow the instructions on the container.

BUFFALO recommend that this appliance is descaled every 3 months or more frequently in hard water areas.

Electrical Wiring

This appliance is supplied with a 3 pin, moulded, BS1363 plug and lead, with a 13 amp fuse as standard.

The plug is to be connected to a suitable mains socket.

This appliance is wired as follows:

• Live wire (coloured brown) to terminal marked L
- Neutral wire (coloured blue) to terminal marked N
- Earth wire (coloured green/yellow) to terminal marked E

This appliance must be earthed, using a dedicated earthing circuit.

If in doubt consult a qualified electrician.
