Frequently Asked Questions - QuikServe 77222 WestBend

Why won't the toaster lever lock?
Make sure the toaster is plugged in and the service tray is open. The lever will only lock if these conditions are met.
How to use the Bagel function?
Place the bagel with the cut side facing forward, then press the BAGEL button. The toaster toasts the front side more intensely.
What to do if food gets stuck in the toaster?
Unplug the appliance, let it cool, then turn it upside down and shake gently to dislodge food. Never use a metal object.
How to clean the service tray?
Remove the service tray and wash it with warm soapy water. Rinse and dry. Do not put it in the dishwasher and do not use abrasive pads.
Why is my toast too burnt?
This toaster toasts faster than classic models. Reduce the browning setting and adjust to your preference.
Can I toast frozen foods?
Yes, but they may require a higher setting. Place them like regular slices and monitor toasting.
Can the toaster heat non-bread items like pastries?
Yes, but only on the lowest setting and with constant supervision, as they can catch fire. Do not toast items spread with butter or syrup.
What does the CANCEL light mean?
The CANCEL light is on when the toasting cycle is in progress. You can press this button to stop toasting at any time.
How to store the power cord?
After use, wrap the cord around the clips located under the toaster for easy storage.

  • Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
  • Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids.
  • Do not attempt to repair this appliance yourself.
  • A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
  • Longer extension cords are available, but care must be exercised in their use. While use of an extension cord is not recommended, if you must use one, ensure that the marked electrical rating of the extension cord is equal to or greater than that of the appliance. If the plug is of the grounded type, the extension cord must be a grounding-type 3-wire cord. To avoid pulling, tripping or entanglement, position the extension cord so that it does not hang over the edge of the counter, table or other area where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
  • This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. BEFORE USING FOR THE FIRST TIME

Please check all packaging material carefully before discarding. Accessory parts may be contained within the packaging material. Before using, wipe the outside of the toaster with a damp cloth then dry thoroughly. Operate the toaster the first time without any food in the toaster slots and with the browning control knob set to 7. Note: The toaster must be plugged in and the serving tray open for the toast lever to lock in place. This will eliminate any residual manufacturing oils.

USING YOUR TOASTER

This toaster is designed to cook hotter and faster than most toasters. We recommend toasting at a low setting and adjusting from there based on your preference.

  1. Place the toaster on a dry, level, heat-resistant surface, away from any edge or flammable materials.
  2. Plug the cord into a 120 volt, AC outlet only. Open the serving tray. Note: The toaster will not function unless the serving tray is open.

  3. Place a maximum of two slices of bread or bagel into the bread slot. Be sure to place the bagel into the toaster with the cut side to the front.

  4. Select the desired toast color setting. Note: Toaster pastries, tarts, etc. can ignite if over-heated. Toast at the lowest setting with constant attention. This toaster is designed to cook hotter and faster than most toasters.
  5. Press the toast lever down until it locks into place. The "CANCEL" light will glow and the toasting cycle will begin. Note: The toaster must be plugged in and the serving tray open for the toast lever to lock in place.
  6. If desired, press "BAGEL" and/or "GLUTEN FREE" button(s). "BAGEL" will toast the front side. "GLUTEN FREE" will toast longer, at a lower power, which produces better results for gluten free breads. These settings can be used simultaneously.
  7. When the selected color is reached, the toast rack will open to the bottom of the toaster and the toast will drop out onto serving tray. The "CANCEL" light and toaster will turn off. The toast cycle can be stopped anytime by pressing the "CANCEL" button. If toasting additional food, always allow a few seconds between toasting for toast rack to close.
  8. When toasting is complete, always unplug the cord from the wall outlet. Do not leave a toaster constantly plugged in.

- A small amount of smoke and/or odor may occur upon heating due to the release of manufacturing oils – this is normal.

- Some minor expansion/contraction sounds may occur during heating and cooling – this is normal.

  • Toasting can be stopped any time by pressing the "CANCEL" button.
  • Use the bread setting when toasting bread, English muffins, waffles, toaster pastries, etc., to toast on both sides.
  • Frozen foods may require a darker setting.
  • While it is not recommended, if you do toast foods with frosting or icing, place the food into the toaster with the frosting side to the front. Toast at the lowest setting with constant attention.
  • Do not cook, warm, or toast fried foods, rice cakes, or non-bread items in the toaster. Do not heat any foods that have been spread with butter, jelly, frosting, syrup, or other spread.
  • Do not cut on serving tray, as damage to tray will occur.
  • Unplug the toaster immediately if fire or smoke is observed.
  • If food becomes lodged inside the toaster, unplug the cord from the wall outlet and allow the toaster to cool completely. Turn the toaster upside down and shake to dislodge.
  • Never insert a metal fork or any other metal objects into the toasting slot.
  • Please note that many variables factor into making toast; moisture content of the bread, thickness, sugars and starches, and grains can all affect the browning of the bread when making toast.
  • Wheat and whole grain breads tend to require longer toasting times.
