How to adjust the switching threshold for moving objects?

Pass the objects through the optical beam, then press the button until the red LED flashes. The yellow and green LEDs flash alternately. Press once, then a second time to confirm. The green LED lights up in operating mode.

What does the red LED lit constantly mean?

The red LED lit constantly indicates an error during object detection, for example incorrect adjustment or soiling of the optical fibers.

What type of optical fiber to use with the OB5025?

The amplifier is designed for ifm optical fibers of type FE-11 (through-beam) and FT-11 (direct reflection).

How to mount the optical fibers in the amplifier?

Unscrew screw A, slide the fibers into the openings until you feel a slight resistance (O-ring), then push until the stop and tighten the screw.

What are the electrical connections?

Connection via 3-wire cable: BN (brown) = power +, BU (blue) = power -, BK (black) = output. The output function (PNP or NPN) is programmed by wiring.

How to reset the device after an error?

Check the fibers, adjustment and soiling. If the red LED flashes quickly, there is a short circuit. Correct the wiring. If it flashes slowly, internal error. Consult the manual.

Can we use fibers other than ifm?

No, the amplifier is optimized for ifm fibers FE-11 and FT-11. Using other fibers may reduce the range or damage the device.

What is the importance of the cover?

The cover must be closed after adjustment to ensure IP 65 protection against dust and moisture.

How to adjust the threshold with a stationary object?

Press until the red LED flashes. Place the object in the beam and press. Remove the object and press again. The green LED lights up in operating mode.

What to do if the threshold adjustment fails?

If the red LED flashes after the adjustment step, this means the signal of the object and background are too similar. The device remains in operating mode without changing the threshold. Adjust manually or clean the fibers.

Rote LED:

The switching amplifier senses objects and materials without contact and indicates their presence by a switching signal.

• Only for the connection of the ifm fibre optics type FE-11 and FT-11.
• Sensing range depends on the fibre optic.

Mounting

Mount the unit on a DIN rail or by means of a mounting fixture.

Mount the fibre optics:

1. Loosen the screw A, fig. 1.
2. Place the fibre optics into the sensor holes B until you feel a slight resistance (O ring), fig. 2.
3. Push the fibre optics until they come to a stop (optical elements) and hold them, fig. 3.
4. Tighten the screw A.

If the fibre optics are not in contact with the optical elements, the sensing range is reduced.

Electrical connection

Isolate the power, then connect the unit as specified (see the last page or the type label).

• Core colours (for sensors with cable connection): BN = brown, BU = blue, BK = black.
• Programming of the output function by wiring (see the page 15 or the type label).

The unit detects input signals of various intensity in any sequence and calculates the optimum switching threshold.

Operation

Only open the cover to make adjustments. Close it after the adjustment has been made in order to maintain the protection IP65.
