Important Safety Instructions

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

CAUTION: Only qualified professional electrical service personnel should perform installation.
- Use caution when lifting R.B.C.s.
- Make certain the R.B.C.s for the UPS and/or External Battery Pack use the same DC voltage before connecting them.
- Use of this equipment in life support applications where failure of this equipment can reasonably be expected to cause the failure of the life support equipment or to significantly affect its safety or effectiveness is not recommended.
Use only Tripp Lite R.B.C.s. - When installing multiple R.B.C.s in a UPS and/or External Battery Pack, all R.B.C.s should be approximately the same age.
It is normal for sparks to occur when connecting R.B.C.s. - Due to the possibility of dangerous arcing, do not disconnect internal batteries or unplug external batteries from the UPS while the UPS is operating on battery power.
- Batteries can present a risk of electrical shock and burn from high short-circuit current. Observe proper precautions. Do not dispose of the batteries in a fire. Do not open the R.B.C.s or batteries. Do not short or bridge the battery terminals with any object. Use tools with insulated handles. Battery replacement should be performed only by authorized service personnel using the same number and type of batteries (Sealed Lead-Acid). The batteries are recyclable. Refer to your local codes for disposal requirements or visit tripplite.com/support/recycling-program for recycling information.
Battery Removal
UPS System - Internal Battery Removal
1 Remove the six front screws from the front bezel, then remove the bezel from the UPS. Hang the bezel on the available hook.
Note: The front panel display has an attached ribbon cable that extends from the UPS to the front bezel. Make sure to keep this cable out of the way when opening and closing the battery door, or use a screwdriver to detach the display from the bezel.
2 Loosen the two captive screws securing the battery door.
3 Open the battery door. Ensure the Smart battery communications cable is safely out of the way when opening the battery door and removing the battery trays.
4 Using the handles attached to each tray, slightly pull out the old battery pack trays and disconnect the communication cable.
5 Once the communication cables have been disconnected. Remove both old battery trays from the UPS. Proceed to R.B.C Installation section if no external battery packs are being used.

Battery Removal
External Battery Pack - Internal Battery Removal
1 Remove the six front screws from the front bezel and remove the bezel from the battery pack frame.

2 Remove the six screws from the battery bracket and remove the battery bracket from the battery pack frame. Disconnect the communications cable from each battery tray.

Use the handles attached to each battery pack tray to remove the battery pack trays in the order shown.
Note: Make sure to move the communication cables out of the way of the battery trays accordingly.

R.B.C. Installation
UPS System - R.B.C. Internal Battery Installation
When installing the new replacement batteries, make sure the red and black DC connector end is facing towards the rear of the UPS and the communication port is facing toward the front of the UPS. Starting with the right side replacement battery pack tray, insert the battery pack tray, making sure it protrudes slightly from the UPS. Repeat for the left replacement battery pack tray.
Note: For better connector access, attach the cables before the battery packs are fully inserted into the UPS.
2 Reconnect the battery communication cables to the UPS and push the battery pack trays completely into the UPS.
3 Close the battery door and secure by tightening the captive screws.
4 Reattach the front bezel to the UPS and secure with the screws removed in step 1 of the Battery Removal section.

R.B.C. Installation
External Battery Pack - R.B.C. Internal Battery Installation
Each battery tray uses a blindmate DC connector A. Position each battery pack tray so the red and black DC connector end is facing towards the rear of the battery pack unit and the communication port B is facing toward the front of the battery pack housing. Starting at the right side of the battery pack housing, insert the first two battery trays, making sure they protrude slightly from the UPS. Ensure that the battery communications cable are out of the way when inserting the battery trays. Repeat for the remaining trays.
2 Reconnect the battery communication cables to each battery tray communications port, then push the battery pack trays completely into the battery pack housing.
3 Reattach the battery bracket to the battery pack frame and secure with the screws removed in the Battery Removal section.
Note: Make sure the battery bracket battery does not pinch the communication cables upon installation.
4 Reattach the front bezel to the battery pack unit and secure with the screws removed in the Battery Removal section.

Maintenance
UPS Internal Batteries and External Battery packs require minimal maintenance and should be kept dry at all times. Avoid installation in locations with high heat and/or humidity. The UPS system's internal batteries and external battery packs should be kept fully charged by being connected to an active compatible UPS system, not left in a depleted condition. Batteries left in a discharged state will suffer a permanent loss of capacity.
Troubleshooting
There are fuse arrays inside the UPS internal battery system and external battery packs. If a heavy overload or short circuit is encountered, a fuse will open (blow). An internal battery system or external battery pack with blown fuses will deliver no output voltage at any load. A qualified technician must replace the fuses. Contact Tripp Lite Customer Support for additional information.
Storage
UPS System: First, turn off your UPS by pressing the "OFF" switch to enter Bypass or Standby mode. Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet or shut off UPS mains circuit breaker. Then, disconnect all equipment to avoid battery drain. If you plan on storing your UPS for an extended period of time, fully recharge the UPS batteries once every three months by plugging the UPS into a live AC circuit or outlet and letting the UPS charge for 4-6 hours. If you leave your UPS batteries discharged for an extended period, they may suffer permanent loss of capacity.
External Battery Pack: Disconnect your battery pack's power cable before storing. If you plan to store your battery pack for an extended period, fully recharge its batteries every three months by connecting it to a UPS that is connected to AC input for at least 12 hours.
