Frequently Asked Questions - LTVWL1 LA CROSSE TECHNOLOGY

How do I install the LTVWL1 water leak detector?
Place the sensor flat on the floor to detect a thin layer of water (0.787 mm). For vertical installation (e.g., in a sump pump), water must reach 6.35 mm. Ensure the metal contacts do not touch any metal surface to avoid false alerts.
What do the detector's LED indicators mean?
Flashing blue indicates normal transmission with no water. Flashing red twice every 5 seconds means water is detected. Flashing purple 5 times every 30 seconds indicates low battery.
How do I connect the sensor to the La Crosse View app?
Open the La Crosse View app, go to 'Add/Edit' then 'Devices', select 'ADD DEVICE', scan the barcode or manually enter the ID number located under the front cover. Follow the instructions to name the device and add alerts.
What is the transmission range of the sensor?
The range can reach 121 meters (400 feet) in open area. Obstacles (walls, furniture) may reduce this distance.
What type of batteries to use and how to replace them?
Use 2 new AA (LR6) batteries. Open the cover by turning counterclockwise, insert batteries respecting polarity, then close by turning clockwise. Do not mix old/new batteries or different types.
Does the detector work with all La Crosse View stations?
No, it requires a La Crosse View station with built-in Wi-Fi. Older stations without Wi-Fi cannot transmit data to the app.
What to do if the LED is purple?
The purple LED indicates low battery. Replace the batteries with new ones as soon as possible. After replacement, verify the LED returns to blue.
How to manually test the sensor?
Press the TX button located inside the front cover to force a transmission. The LED should flash blue. You can also pour a little water on the contacts to trigger a red alert.
Can the sensor be used outdoors?
It is designed for indoor use. Its temperature range is -40°C to 60°C, but it is not waterproof. Avoid exposing it to rain or excessive moisture.
What to do in case of a false water alert?
Check that the metal contacts are not touching a metal surface (this can cause false detections). Clean the contacts with a dry cloth. If the problem persists, reset the sensor by removing the batteries for 10 seconds.

REMOTE MONITORING WITH WIFI

Benefits of connecting your sensor to the La Crosse View™ app:

  • When the sensor is connected to the La Crosse View app, you'll have access to its status anywhere on the go.
  • You can even setup alerts which will send you push notifications for when water is detected, when water is no longer detected, the connection is lost, or when the sensor's batteries are low.
    • This information can also easily be shared with friends and family.
  1. Remove the front cover by twisting counter-clockwise to the unlock position.
  2. Insert 2 fresh AA batteries according to the polarity markings. The LED light will flash blue when batteries are inserted.
  3. Replace front cover and turn clockwise to locked position.

LED Colors:

BLUE LED: Normal Transmission. The LED light will occasionally flash blue, indicating it is still transmitting correctly and that no water has been detected. Press the TX button inside the front cover to force a transmission at any time.

RED LED: Water detected. The LED light will flash red twice every 5 seconds until dry. When water is no longer detected, the light will reduce in frequency and revert back to flashing blue to indicate transmission.

PURPLE LED: Battery is low. When the batteries need to be replaced, the LED light will flash purple 5 times every 30 seconds. (Purple) will flash once every second for 5 seconds.

POSITIONING

  • The sensor will work best when simply placed on a floor. It will begin to detect water at 0.031 inches (0.787mm).
  • If sensor is placed vertically (Ex: hung inside a sump pump) the depth of the water needs to be at least 0.25 inches (6.35mm) high to trigger the sensor.

IMPORTANT: The metal contacts on the sensor should not be in contact with other metal. This will cause false WET readings and may damage the sensor.
