Frequently Asked Questions - CAP1200 Edimax

How to reset the Edimax CAP1200 access point?
Press and hold the reset button with a pointed object (paperclip) for at least 10 seconds. Release and wait for the LED to turn blue. All settings return to factory defaults.
What is the default IP address of the CAP1200?
The default IP address is 192.168.2.2. Make sure your computer is on the same subnet (e.g., 192.168.2.x) to access it.
What is the default username and password?
The default username is admin and the password is 1234. It is recommended to change them during initial setup.
How to configure the access point for the first time?
Connect the CAP1200 to your computer via an Ethernet cable, plug in the power, set your computer's IP to 192.168.2.x, then open a browser and enter 192.168.2.2. Log in with admin/1234 and follow the wizard.
Can I use PoE (Power over Ethernet) with the CAP1200?
Yes, the CAP1200 supports power via PoE (Power over Ethernet). If you use a PoE switch, the power adapter is not required. Be careful not to use both simultaneously.
How to change the SSID (Wi-Fi network name)?
Go to the web interface: Wireless Settings > 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz > General. Modify the SSID1 field and click Apply. You can enable up to 16 SSIDs per band.
How to secure my Wi-Fi network?
In the web interface, go to Wireless Settings > [band] > Security. Choose an authentication method (recommended WPA2-PSK) and set a pre-shared key (password). Click Apply.
What should I do if I forgot the administrator password?
You must reset the access point to factory settings (see reset question). This erases all settings, including the password.
How to install the access point on the ceiling?
Use the included mounting kit: attach the bracket to the ceiling (hook or T-rail), then snap the access point into place. Use the drilling template for screws if needed.
The LED is flashing orange, what should I do?
A flashing orange LED indicates an error (e.g., startup failure). Try restarting the device by unplugging and replugging the power. If the problem persists, reset it.
