8. Before initial use
Check the hands-free kit and accessories for signs of damage. If the hands-free kit is damaged, it must not be used. WARNING! Familiarise yourself with the basic functions of the hands-free kit before installing it in your vehicle to prevent distraction while driving. This could result in a serious accident.
Buttons 3, 4, 5 and 8 are illuminated and provide visual feedback depending on the function used. This may occur in conjunction with a beep or series of beeps.
9.1 Charging the lithium ion battery
Charge the lithium ion battery fully before its first use. Insert the USB plug of the car charger adapter provided into the USB charging socket (7) of the hands-free kit. Then insert the car charger adapter into an appropriate in-car socket.SilverCrest SFA 4.1 E1 English - 13 The LED of the car charger adapter lights up green. The standby button (8) lights up green while charging. A full charge cycle takes approximately 3 hours. The standby button (8) will go out when charging is complete. Disconnect the car charger adapter from the in-car socket and the hands-free kit. CAUTION! Charge the battery only when the engine is running to save your vehicle’s battery. The battery can also be charged on a PC or using an external mains adapter. A connecting cable with appropriate micro-USB plug is required for this.
9.2 Switching the hands-free kit on/off
Press the standby button (8) for about three seconds until you hear a series of beeps and buttons 3, 4, 5 and 8 flash briefly several times. The hands-free kit is now ready for use. If a connected device is in range, buttons 3, 4, 5 and 8 will flash blue briefly once about every ten seconds. If no connected device is in range, the device goes into search/pairing mode. To switch the hands-free kit off, hold down the standby button (8) for about two seconds. A beep sounds, button 3 flashes orange briefly several times and then goes out completely.
9.3 Establishing connection with compatible mobile phones
Pairing/Connecting Only on first use and following a reset to factory settings, the hands-free kit will start directly in pairing mode after holding down the standby button (8) for about three seconds. The mute button (3) will flash alternately orange and blue.SilverCrest SFA 4.1 E1
If pairing has already taken place, hold the standby button (8) down for about eight seconds when the hands-free kit is switched off. After about three seconds, buttons 3, 4, 5 and 8 will flash blue and you will hear a series of beeps. After about five more seconds, you will hear a beep and the mute button (3) will flash alternately orange and blue. The hands-free kit is now in pairing mode. Activate the Bluetooth
function of your mobile phone and let it search for Bluetooth
devices nearby. To do so, refer to your mobile phone manual. From the list of devices detected, select device ‘SFA 4.1 E1’. Enter ‘0000’ if you are asked for a PIN during the pairing process. The name of the hands-free kit ‘SFA 4.1 E1’ will now appear in the list of devices connected to your mobile phone. A beep indicates that pairing was successful. The hands-free kit is now in standby mode and buttons 3, 4, 5 and 8 flash blue briefly once at regular intervals of about ten seconds. The device goes into search/pairing mode as soon as the connection is severed. If the connection to the smartphone is interrupted, the hands-free kit goes into search/pairing mode for about one minute. A beep is emitted after the end of this time. After approximately 20 more seconds, buttons 3, 4, 5 and 8 flash blue four times and the hands-free kit automatically switches to energy saving mode. The hands-free kit is fitted with a shock sensor. As soon as the hands-free kit detects a shock, for example when closing the car door, it switches automatically from energy saving mode back to standby mode (BT connection is reactivated). You can pair or connect other devices to the hands-free kit in a similar manner. The pairing begins for each device with the hands-free kit switched off as described above.SilverCrest SFA 4.1 E1 English - 15 Once you have connected a device to the hands-free kit, switch the hands-free kit off and then on again. The pairing process is now complete. The hands-free kit then has several ‘known’ devices. This status is a prerequisite for an active connection between the hands-free kit and other devices. A maximum of 8 devices can be stored as ‘known devices’. As soon as a ninth device is added, the oldest device is removed. The number of devices that can establish an active connection with the hands-free kit is limited to two. The second device must be connected within 10 minutes of the first device. A connection can then be re-established automatically with the second device when the hands-free kit is switched off and on again. If one or two of the known devices enter the vicinity of the hands-free kit within approx. 10 minutes, a connection to these devices will be established automatically. You may need to confirm the connection on your mobile phone. If a third known device enters the vicinity of the hands-free kit, the connection with this device will be blocked as long as there are two active connections or until one of the two devices goes out of range. If one of the two actively connected devices disconnects, pairing is possible for the third (waiting) device once the hands-free kit is restarted. The pairing process can take up to 30 seconds depending on the mobile phone you are using. If two devices are connected to the hands-free kit, different ring tones will be used for incoming calls. A call to a second paired phone will be signalled by the hands-free kit if you are on another call.SilverCrest SFA 4.1 E1
To make a call, select the phone number on your mobile phone in the normal way. Buttons 3, 4, 5 and 8 rapidly flash blue while a connection is being established. Once the phone connection is established, buttons 3, 4, 5 and 8 flash blue once followed by a long pause.
9.5 Accepting / rejecting calls
The hand-free kit rings for an incoming call. Buttons 3, 4, 5 and 8 flash blue in rapid succession while the connection is being established. You can accept the call by briefly pressing the phone button (2). Once the phone connection is established, buttons 3, 4, 5 and 8 flash blue once followed by a long pause. To reject the call, hold down the phone button (2) for about two seconds until you hear a beep. If two of a user’s phones are connected to the hands-free kit at the same time and a call is already in progress via the hands-free kit, a call on the second phone is handled as follows: If the second call is accepted using the hands-free kit, the first call is interrupted and ended at that moment.
You can increase the volume as needed during a call using the + button (4). A beep sounds if the maximum volume is reached. You can also reduce the volume using the - button (5). A beep sounds if the minimum volume is reached.SilverCrest SFA 4.1 E1 English - 17
9.7 Muting microphone
You can use the mute button (3) to temporarily switch off the microphone (6) during a call so that the other person can no longer hear you. In this case, press the mute button (3) for about three seconds until a confirmation tone sounds and the mute button (3) flashes orange once. The microphone is now muted. When muted, 2 beeps sound at regular intervals to remind you of the muting. If you want to end the muting, press the mute button (3) again for about three seconds. The mute button (3) flashes orange once and a beep sounds. You are now back in normal talk mode in which the other person can hear you.
You can redial the last number that was called via the hands-free kit. In this case, press the mute button (3) twice in rapid succession in standby mode.
9.10 Calling via voice dialling
The hands-free kit allows you to make calls via voice dialling if your mobile phone supports this function and it is enabled. To establish a connection via voice dialling, briefly press the standby button (8) of the hands-free kit once in standby mode and then clearly say the name of the desired contact. For more detailed information on the voice dialling function of your mobile phone, please refer to the instructions for your mobile phone.SilverCrest SFA 4.1 E1
9.11 Mounting on the sun visor
You can mount the hands-free kit on the sun visor of your vehicle using the mounting clip (B) supplied. To do so, first attach the mounting clip to the sun visor. There is a magnetic attachment (9) on the back of the hands-free kit. Place the hands-free kit on the mounted mounting clip so that the magnet engages in the recess of the mounting clip. Make sure the magnet lies flat in the recess of the mounting clip. The hands-free kit will then be mounted securely. WARNING! The hands-free kit must be mounted so as not to adversely affect visibility.SilverCrest SFA 4.1 E1 English - 19
