Operating and Safety Instructions

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS When using this or any other electrical appliance, always follow these basic safety precautions, especially when children are present.

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS

BEFORE USE WARNING-- To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, serious personal injury, and property damage please note the following:

• This product is not intended for use by children. Keep the product out of the reach of children and pets. Extra caution is necessary when using this appliance near children.

• Always ensure the product is unplugged from the electrical outlet and allowed to cool before assembling, disassembling, relocating, or cleaning it.

• Do not leave the product unattended while it is in use. Always unplug the product from the electrical outlet when not in use.

• Do not immerse the Base, Power Cord, or Plug of this product in or expose the Power Cord or Plug to water or other liquids.

• Do not touch hot surfaces. Use protective oven mitts or gloves to avoid burns or personal injury.

• Take proper precautions to prevent burns, fire, or personal or property damage as this appliance generates heat and steam during use.

• Do not use attachments not recommended or sold by the product manufacturer.

• Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, in a heated oven, or other heated surfaces.

• Do not operate the product empty. Use extreme caution when moving an appliance containing hot food, water, or other liquids.

• Use the product in a well-ventilated area. Keep at least 4-6 inches of space on all sides of the product to allow adequate air circulation.

• Use appliance on a table or flat surface. Keep the product away from curtains, wall coverings, clothing, dishtowels, or other flammable materials.

• Do not plug or unplug the product from the electrical outlet with a wet hand.4

• This product is intended solely for non-commercial, non-industrial, household use in cooking of food for human consumption; do not use the product outdoors or for any other purpose.

• Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter where it may be tripped over or pulled. Do not allow cord to touch hot surfaces.

• Do not operate the product if it has a damaged or cut Power Cord or plug, if wires are exposed, if it malfunctions, if it is dropped or damaged, or is exposed to water.

• This product has no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to examine or repair this product yourself. Please review warranty on Page 9.

• Do not put any stress on the power cord where it connects to the product, as the power cord could fray and break.

• Do not put liquids or ingredients directly in the base, only in the ceramic pot. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the risk of becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. An extension cord is not recommended for use with this product, but if one must be used: − The marked electrical rating must be at least as great as that of the product. − Arrange the extension cord so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be tripped over or pulled.

WARNING: This product is equipped with a polarized plug (one blade

is wider than the other blade) to reduce the risk of electrical shock. This is a safety feature. The plug will fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If you are unable to insert the plug into the electrical outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Never use the plug with an extension cord unless you can fully insert the plug into the extension cord. Do not alter the plug. Do not attempt to defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug. FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY!

Before First Use Attention: First use may cause a slight odor or small smoking upon heating, it is normal. This is a result of the heating element chemical reaction. It quickly goes away. IMPORTANT: Please check all packaging material carefully for accessories before discarding. Rinse all loose parts with warm water prior to first use. Once rinsed and dried, follow with next steps.

1. Place the Inner Pot into the Rice Cooker.

2. Pour in 2 cups of water and cover with Glass Lid.

3. Plug the Rice Cooker into an electrical outlet and press down the switch to “Cook”.

4. After 20 minutes, gently push the switch up, and unplug the Rice Cooker from the electrical

pour the water from the Inner Pot to avoid burns, rinse and dry thoroughly. WARNING: Avoid contact with Hot parts. Cooking gloves or mittens should be used when

handling this product during and after use. ATTENTION: Do not use the product to cook raw whole meats (e.g., roasts, steaks, etc.), whole chickens or other poultry, whole fish, or ground meats. Cook ground meats separately. CAUTION: Do not overfill the product or operate it when empty.

1. Using Measuring Cup (included), measure and add rice to the Non-Stick Inner Pot. Using

the chart provided below, add the amount of water needed to cook rice.

2. Plug the product into an electrical outlet and push the ‘Cook’ power switch down to

start the cooking process. The indicator light will light up when it is cooking. *If the button is difficult to press down, the Inner Pot may not be inserted correctly, or the appliance may need to cool down if recently used.

3. When cooking is complete, the switch will pop up. You can then leave Rice covered for

at least 15 minutes to steam the rice.

4. When finished, unplug the product. Always unplug the appliance from the plug head do

not pull or yank on the cord to unplug.

WARNING: Always unplug the product from the electrical outlet when it is not in use or will

be left unattended. NOTICE: Do not touch the ventilating hole as the steam is very hot and can scald. Note: The WARM setting will keep the contents warm and will continue to gently steam rice.

Using your Steamer Tray Tips: We recommend the freshest organic vegetables for the best results. FRESH vegetables should always be rinsed before cooking. The table below offers suggestions with estimated water and time recommendations. Use this information as a reference guide. If you do not get the results you want from the recommendations on the chart, add or reduce water and time. With time, you will achieve the desired results using your new Steamer Tray! Enjoy! The cooking time of vegetables is determined by the following:

• Freshness (Quality of Vegetable)

This table is a reference guide and offers suggestions with estimated water and time recommendations. See page 8 for some recipe ideas.

WARNING: Always unplug the product and allow it to cool before cleaning or storing.

NOTICE: To avoid damaging the product, do not pour cold water into the Non-Stick Inner Pot after use and do not use abrasive cleaners/pads to clean any part of the product.

• Remove the Inner Pot and Lid from the Cooker. Wash these in warm soapy water. Do not use a scouring pad as this may damage the Non-Stick of the Inner Pot.

• Clean the outside of the Cooker with a clean damp cloth. Do not submerge any part of the cooker in water.

• You can also wipe the heating plate on the inside of the cooker with a damp cloth making sure to dry completely before re-using.

• Dry all parts thoroughly before storing or using again. Vegetable Water (Cups) Cooking Minutes (Estimated) Eggplant 1 ½

Ingredients 1 Cup Brown Rice 1 Yellow onion, diced 2 1/4 cups water or stock 1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted Chopped flat leaf parsley for garnish Kosher Salt and black pepper for taste Directions In the bowl of your rice cooker add the brown rice, diced onion and water (or stock if desired). Close the lid and move the power switch to on to begin cooking. After 30-40 minutes or when the rice has finished cooking, fluff with a fork, season with salt and pepper and transfer to a serving bowl. Top with toasted sliced almonds and parsley. Spanish Rice

Ingredients 1 Medium Onion, Diced 2 cloves Garlic, Minced 1-15 ounce can diced tomatoes, drained 1 Cup Long Grain White Rice 1 1/2 Cups Water Salt and Black Pepper Cilantro and Lime Wedges Directions Place the diced onion, minced garlic, tomatoes and white rice in the rice cooker. Add the water and stir to combine. Close the lid and move the power switch to on to begin cooking. After about 20 minutes or after the rice has finished cooking, fluff with a fork and season to taste with salt and black pepper. Place in a bowl for serving and garnish with chopped cilantro on top and lime wedges. Rice Cooker Mac 'n Cheese

Ingredients 1 1/2 Cups Elbow Macaroni 1 1/2 Cups Chicken Broth 1 Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk 3/4 Cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese 1/4 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese 1/4 Teaspoon Paprika Salt and Ground Black Pepper to Taste Directions Mix macaroni, broth, and almond milk together in the rice cooker and cook according to manufacturer's instructions into your Brentwood Rice Cooker until macaroni is tender yet firm to the bite. This usually takes about 30-40 minutes. Stir cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, paprika, salt, and pepper into macaroni mixture until cheeses are melted. Serve and enjoy!9
