Frequently Asked Questions - E8xt FLIR

How to charge the battery of the FLIR E8xt camera?
You can charge the battery in three ways: using the FLIR power cable plugged into a wall outlet, the FLIR standalone charger (remove the battery and place it in the charger), or a USB cable connected to a powered-on computer. Charging time is approximately 2 hours. Note that charging via USB is slower.
How to save a thermal image?
To save an image, point the camera at your target and press the trigger. The image is saved to internal memory as FLIRxxxx.jpg. You can store approximately 500 images.
What is MSX mode and how to use it?
MSX (Multi Spectral Dynamic Imaging) mode displays an infrared image with enhanced object contours from the digital camera. To use it, press the center of the navigation pad, select Image Mode, then MSX. You must also set the alignment distance (distance to the object) for accurate fusion.
How to adjust emissivity for accurate measurement?
Access the menu by pressing the center of the navigation pad, select Option > Measurement Settings > Emissivity. You can choose a surface property (matte, semi-matte, semi-glossy), a custom material from a list, or enter a custom numerical value (e.g., 0.95 for a painted surface). Correct emissivity is crucial for accurate temperature measurements.
How to perform a non-uniformity correction (NUC)?
Non-uniformity correction compensates for differences in pixel sensitivity. To trigger it manually, press and hold the Archive button (album icon) for at least 2 seconds. Perform this operation if the image becomes noisy, for example after a change in ambient temperature.
How to clean the infrared lens?
Use a lens cleaning liquid containing more than 30% isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96%. Moisten a cotton swab, wring it out, then clean the lens once with a gentle motion. Do not reuse the cotton swab and avoid cleaning cloths that may scratch the anti-reflective coating.
What to do if the camera displays an error or abnormal behavior?
First consult the manual for specific error messages. If the problem persists, contact FLIR support at http://support.flir.com with the camera model, serial number, and a description of the issue. You can also check for firmware updates via FLIR Tools.
How to connect the camera to a Wi-Fi network?
Press the center of the navigation pad, select Option > Device Configuration > Wi-Fi. Choose Share for a direct connection (access point mode) or Connect to Network to join an existing network. For share mode, you can set a channel and WEP password. To join a network, select it from the list and enter the password if required.
What is the measurement accuracy of the FLIR E8xt camera?
Typical accuracy is ±2 °C or ±2% of reading (whichever is greater). For optimal measurements, wait 5 minutes after startup and correctly set emissivity, reflected temperature, distance, and relative humidity. Annual calibration is recommended.
How to update the camera firmware?
Install FLIR Tools on your computer, turn on the camera and connect it via USB. In FLIR Tools, go to Help > Check for Updates and follow the instructions. Ensure the battery is charged and do not disconnect the camera during the update.
