No, under Windows Me the driver is not necessary. Simply plug in the device with a Memory Stick inserted and the installation happens automatically.
How do I install the driver under Windows 98/98SE/2000?
Insert the included CD-ROM, open 'My Computer', access the CD drive, double-click 'Setup.exe' and follow the on-screen instructions. Then restart the computer.
Why does my computer not start with a Memory Stick inserted?
Under Windows, if a Memory Stick is inserted in the reader at startup, the computer may not start correctly. Remove the Memory Stick then restart.
How do I safely remove the Memory Stick under Windows 2000/Me?
Close all software using the device, click the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon in the taskbar, select the device, then remove the Memory Stick or disconnect the cable.
