9) Mains connection

12) Keep-warm control lamp

6. Before first use

Before the first use and any further cooking, rinse all supplied parts that come into contact with food thoroughly with warm soapy water.
Rinse all the parts afterwards with clean water and dry them thoroughly.

7. Using the rice cooker

Plug the mains cable into the mains connection and connect the mains cable with a properly installed safety socket (230V 50Hz)

7.1. Filling the rice cooker

Use the measuring cup to measure the required amounts.

You can add up to ten measuring cups of washed, uncooked rice (up to 1800 ml) for cooking in the pot insert.

One cupful of uncooked rice (180 ml) produces about triple the amount of cooked rice.

Measure the required quantity of rice and add the rice to the pot insert of the rice cooker.
Make sure that the hotplate and the outside of the pot are clean and dry before you put the pot insert into the rice cooker. This is the only way to ensure optimum contact between the hotplate and the pot insert.
- Add cold water to the pot as indicated on the scale on the inside. Thus, if you add 4 measuring cups of rice, fill the pot insert with water up to the 4 mark on the scale. Adding too much water can cause the appliance to boil over.
Add a little salt according to taste.

MEDION MD 16471 - Filling the rice cooker - 1

TIP:

The taste and hardness of the rice grains will depend on the quality of the rice and the cooking time. To get soft and fluffy rice, add a little more water and allow the rice to soak for about 5-10 minutes before cooking. Bear in mind that cooking times will be longer for brown rice (whole-grain rice).

Set the ON/OFF switch to the ON position.

The WARM control lamp lights up orange.

7.2. Cooking

Place the lid on the rice cooker.
Press the power switch down to start the cooking process.

The COOK control lamp lights up red.

MEDION MD 16471 - Cooking - 1

CAUTION!

Risk of scalding and risk of property damage.

The escaping steam is very hot! Therefore do not place the rice cooker under kitchen cabinets.

After cooking, the COOK control lamp goes out and the WARM control lamp lights back up.

The cooking time is dependent on the rice type and water fill volume.

The cooked rice is now kept warm.

After cooking, leave the rice to stand for around 5-10 minutes with the lid on to complete cooking.
Fluff up the rice with the supplied spoon and serve it as desired.
- When you are finished using the rice cooker, move the On/Off switch to the OFF position and pull out the plug.

MEDION MD 16471 - Risk of scalding and risk of property damage. - 1

TIP:

If you want to cook some quick-cook rice, first add only the right amount of water to the pot and boil it in the rice cooker. Add the quick-cook rice as soon as the water boils and put the lid on the rice cooker. See the manufacturer's instructions for the cooking times.

7.3. Keeping rice warm

The keep-warm function remains switched on until you set the On/Off switch to the OFF position.

Cooked rice can be kept warm indefinitely. However, the longer you keep the rice warm the more it loses its flavour, colour and nutrients and it can cause odours.

MEDION MD 16471 - Keeping rice warm - 1

ATTENTION!

Risk of property damage.

If the operating switch is jammed, do not attempt to switch to auto-cook after the cooking process has ended.

8. Using the steamer insert

You can use the steamer insert when cooking rice to steam food such as vegetables.

Fill the pot insert with water.

After filling, place the steamer insert into the pot insert.
- Add the desired quantity of food to the steamer. Do not overfill the steamer and make sure that sufficient steam can escape through the holes in the base to prevent the cooker from boiling over.
- Close the pot insert using the lid.

The steaming times are dependent on the amount of food being steamed. See the following table for some guideline values:

Vegetables Amount of water Steaming time
Cabbage, carrots, green beans1 measuring cup 15 minutes
Asparagus, spinach, brown/red beans1 measuring cup 15 minutes
Courgettes 1 measuring cup10 minutes

Press the power switch down to steam the food.
After the desired cooking time, push the power switch back up and switch off the appliance by moving the On/Off switch into the OFF position.

9. Cleaning the appliance

MEDION MD 16471 - Cleaning the appliance - 1

WARNING!

  • Never immerse the appliance in water or other liquids. If the appliance does fall into liquid, do NOT attempt to touch it. Disconnect the mains plug first!
Always pull out the plug before cleaning the appliance.
If water gets onto the switch, mains cable or plug or onto the hotplate, allow the appliance to dry thoroughly before using it again.

MEDION MD 16471 - WARNING! - 1

WARNING!

There is a risk of burns.

To prevent burns, allow the appliance to cool down completely before cleaning.

Clean the rice cooker carefully after each use.
If there is any rice residue cooked onto the pot insert, fill the pot insert with hot soapy water and leave it to stand for half an hour before cleaning the pot.
Clean the housing inside and out with a damp cloth soaked in soapy water.
The pot insert and lid can be washed in warm soapy water. Do not use any abrasive cleaners or steel wool. Scratches and dents can degrade the contact with the hotplate.
Ensure that no vinegar or salt residue remains in the pot insert as this could lead to corrosion.

13.1.1. Scope

In the event of a fault on your product that is covered by this warranty, the warranty provider guarantees to repair or replace the product. The decision about whether to repair or replace the device is taken by the warranty provider. Therefore, the warranty provider can at its own discretion decide to replace a device submitted for repair under warranty with a refurbished device of the same quality.

No warranty is provided for batteries or rechargeable batteries or for consumable materials i.e. parts which have to be replaced at regular intervals during the normal use of the product e.g. video projector lamps.

A pixel error (permanently coloured, light or dark point in an image) is not generally considered a fault. Please refer to the information provided in the manual for this product for the precise number of permissible defects in the image.

The warranty does not cover errors relating to the playback of data media that have been created in an incompatible format or as a result of using unsuitable software. If it is discovered during the repair that the fault concerned is not covered under warranty, the warranty provider reserves the right to invoice the customer for the

costs already incurred in the form of a flat-rate handling charge, as well as to charge the customer for the materials and labour required for the repair after submitting a cost estimate. You will be informed in advance as the customer about these repair charges; you are responsible for accepting or rejecting the repair process.
