How to use the Danby DFC40C1SSDB chopper?

Before first use, wash the lid, bowl, blade and bowl mat in warm soapy water. Place the bowl on a flat surface. Carefully insert the blade onto the central shaft (it is very sharp). Add the food cut into pieces. Put the lid on and attach the motor by aligning the holes. Press the On/Off switch or use the Pulse function to chop. Wait for the blades to stop completely before removing the motor.

Can I wash the bowl in the dishwasher?

Yes, the bowl, blade and lid can be washed in the dishwasher. Never place the motor in the dishwasher or in water.

How to clean the motor?

The motor should never be immersed in water. Simply wipe it with a clean damp cloth. Ensure no moisture enters the motor.

What types of food can I chop?

You can chop bread (fresh, toasted or stale), fruits and vegetables (canned or cooked), herbs, nuts, biscuits, crackers and fresh meat (up to 120 g). For fruits and vegetables, preferably use the Pulse function.

What is the maximum meat capacity?

The maximum capacity for fresh meat is 120 g per cycle. For best results, cut the meat into small cubes before chopping.

What to do if the plug does not fit into the outlet?

This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade wider). If it does not fit, try reversing it. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to replace the outlet. Never modify the plug.

How to avoid injuries with the blade?

The blades are very sharp. Handle them with caution. Keep hands and utensils away from the blades during operation. Only remove the lid after the blades have completely stopped.

Can the appliance run continuously?

No, this appliance is designed for intermittent operation. Do not exceed 20 seconds of continuous use. Let the motor rest between cycles to allow food to settle.

What is the Pulse function?

The Pulse function consists of briefly pressing the On/Off switch in bursts. It allows you to control the texture of food and avoid over-chopping. It is recommended for herbs, nuts, fruits and vegetables.

13. Be certain the motor and cover are securely locked in place before operating the appliance. Do not attempt to defeat the cover on this unit.

6. When you pulse the unit for more than 20 seconds at a time, we recommend stopping the motor for a short period to allow the contents of the chopper to settle. This ensures the contents are chopped to a desired result.

This appliance is intended for household use only. This appliance is equipped with a polarized plug. This type of plug has one blade wider than the other. The plug will fit into an electrical outlet only one way. This is a safety feature intended to help reduce the risk of electrical shock. If you are unable to insert the plug into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact a qualified electrician to replace the obsolete outlet. Do not attempt to defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug by modifying the plug in any way.

The length of the cord used on this appliance was selected to reduce the hazards of becoming tangled in, or tripping over a longer cord. Do not use an extension cord with this appliance.

FEATURES

USING YOUR CHOPPER

Before First Use:

Wash lid, bowl, blade and bowl mat in hot soapy water and rinse well. The blade is sharp; handle with extreme care. Make sure the lid, bowl, blade and bowl mat have dried completely before using the appliance.

1. Place the bowl on a counter or flat level surface. Carefully slide the blade down over the shaft in the bowl. Be careful not to touch the blade as it is extremely sharp.
2. Place food in the bowl. Certain foods may need to be cut to fit in the chopping bowl.
3. Place the bowl lid onto the bowl, then position the motor onto the bowl. The embossment on the bowl cover is linked with the hole on the motor. It is very important that the holes in the motor and the top of the blade line up completely or the motor will not lock in place. The unit will not operate properly if the motor is not locked in place.
4. Press the power button to activate the chopper. NOTE: It is recommended that you "pulse" the power button while chopping for certain foods. Holding down the power button will cause certain foods to over chop.
5. Make sure the blade stops moving COMPLETELY before removing the motor. You may need to grasp the plastic blade hub to remove the motor and bowl cover. Unplug the unit. Carefully remove the blade from the bowl prior to removing the processed food. Do not use the bowl for storing food.

CHOPPING GUIDE

Food Type Preparation Tips
Bread (Fresh, toasted or stale)	• Rip the bread into several pieces. Chop only 1 slice at a time.
Fruit and Vegetables (Canned or Cooked)	• If using canned fruit, drain the can of liquid fi rst.• It is recommended that you pulse fruit and vegetables as op-posed to holding the power switch down.
Herbs • Wash and dry thoroughly.• It is recommended that you pulse herbs.
Nuts • It is recommended that you pulse nuts.
Cookies and Crackers	• Pulse or process up to 12 average sized cookies or crackers at a time.
Fresh Meat • Pulse or process up to 120g of fresh meat at at time. For best results, please cut the meat into small cubes prior to chopping.

Care and Maintenance

CLEANING YOUR CHOPPER

• Always disconnect the appliance from the power outlet before cleaning. - Wash the bowl and blade assembly immediately after each use. The bowl, blade and lid can be washed in the dishwasher. DO NOT PUT THE MOTOR IN THE DISHWASHER OR SUBMERGE IT IN WATER. If the motor becomes dirty, simply wipe it clean with a damp cloth, making sure you do not get moisture in the motor. - Do not use chemicals, steel wool or sharp objects to clean the unit, this can result in scratching the appliance or damaging the finish.

LIMITED APPLIANCE WARRANTY

This quality product is warranted to be free from manufacturer's defects in material and workmanship, provided that the unit is used under the normal operating conditions intended by the manufacturer.

This warranty is available only to the person to whom the unit was originally sold by Danby Products Limited (Canada) or Danby Products Inc. (U.S.A.) (hereafter "Danby") or by an authorized distributor of Danby, and is non-transferable.

TERMS OF WARRANTY

Plastic parts are warranted for thirty (30) days only from purchase date, with no extensions provided.

First Year

During the first twelve (12) months, any functional parts of this product found to be defective will be repaired or replaced, at warrantor's option, at no charge to the ORIGINAL purchaser.

To obtain service

It will be the consumer's responsibility to transport the appliance (at their own expense) to the original retailer (point of purchase) or a service depot for repair. Contact your dealer from whom your unit was purchased, or contact your nearest authorized Danby service depot, where service must be performed by a qualified service technician. If service is performed on the unit by anyone other than an authorized service depot, or the unit is used for commercial application, all obligations of Danby under this warranty shall be void.

Nothing within this warranty shall imply that Danby will be responsible or liable for any spoilage or damage to food or other contents of this appliance, whether due to any defect of the appliance, or its use, whether proper or improper.

EXCLUSIONS

Save as herein provided, by Danby, there are no other warranties, conditions, representations or guarantees, express or implied, made or intended by Danby or its authorized distributors and all other warranties, conditions, representations or guarantees, including any warranties, conditions, representations or guarantees under any Sale of Goods Act or like legislation or statute is hereby expressly excluded. Save as herein provided, Danby shall not be responsible for any damages to persons or property, including the unit itself, howsoever caused or any consequential damages arising from the malfunction of the unit and by the purchase of the unit, the purchaser does hereby agree to indemnify and hold harmless Danby from any claim for damages to persons or property caused by the unit.

GENERAL PROVISIONS

No warranty or insurance herein contained or set out shall apply when damage or repair is caused by any of the following:

1) Power failure. 2) Damage in transit or when moving the appliance. 3) Improper power supply such as low voltage, defective house wiring or inadequate fuses. 4) Accident, alteration, abuse or misuse of the appliance such as inadequate air circulation in the room or abnormal operating conditions (extremely high or low room temperature). 5) Use for commercial or industrial purposes (ie. If the appliance is not installed in a domestic residence). 6) Fire, water damage, theft, war, riot, hostility, acts of God such as hurricanes, floods etc. 7) Service calls resulting in customer education. 8) Improper Installation (ie. Building-in of a free standing appliance or using an appliance outdoors that is not approved for outdoor application).

Proof of purchase date will be required for warranty claims; so, please retain bill of sale. In the event warranty service is required, present this document to our AUTHORIZED SERVICE DEPOT.
