What to do if the authentication window does not appear?

Verify that the computer is set to obtain an IP address automatically. Enter the address http://tplinkwifi.net or http://192.168.0.1 correctly in the address bar. Try another browser or restart the router. If the problem persists, disable and then re-enable the network adapter.

What to do if I cannot access the Internet?

First check the connection by connecting a computer directly to the modem. If it works, access the router's administration interface via http://tplinkwifi.net and run the Quick Setup again. Restart the router, and for cable modem users, enable MAC Address Cloning if necessary.

How to reset the router to factory defaults?

With the router powered on, press and hold the Reset button on the back until the LEDs flash briefly. Release. Factory defaults are restored. You can also do this from the administration interface.

What to do if I forgot the administration interface password?

Reset the router to factory defaults (see Q3). Then log in with the username admin and create a new password.

What to do if I forgot the Wi-Fi network password?

If you have not changed the default password, it is on the label under the router. Otherwise, log in to the administration interface via http://tplinkwifi.net to view or change the Wi-Fi password.

How to configure parental controls?

Log in to the administration interface (http://tplinkwifi.net) or use the Tether app. Go to the Parental Controls section, add devices to monitor and set access schedules or content blockers.

How to update the router firmware?

Access the administration interface via http://tplinkwifi.net, go to System Tools > Firmware Upgrade. Check for updates online or download the file from TP-Link's website and follow the instructions.

The router does not power on, what to do?

Ensure the power adapter is properly connected and the outlet works. Try a different power cable if possible. If the router still does not power on, contact TP-Link technical support.

How to connect a USB device to the router?

Connect the USB device (flash drive, hard drive) to the USB 2.0 port on the back of the router. Access the administration interface to configure file or media sharing via the Media Server or Network Storage.

How to enable the guest network?

Log in to the administration interface (http://tplinkwifi.net) or the Tether app. Go to Guest Wi-Fi, enable it, set a separate network name (SSID) and password for guests. You can limit access to the local network.

Hardware installation

Connect the Hardware

If your Internet connection is through an Ethernet cable from the wall instead of through a DSL/Cable/Satellite modem, connect the Ethernet cable directly to the router's Internet port, and skip Step 2,3,5 to complete the hardware connection.

1 Install the antennas. If the antennas are already fixed, move to the next step. 2 Turn off the modem, and remove the backup battery if it has one. 3 Connect the modem to the Internet (or WAN) port on your router with an Ethernet cable. 4 Turn on the router, and wait for it to start. 5 Turn on the modem.

Configure via Web Browser

1 Connect your computer to the router (Wired or Wireless).

Wired:

Turn off the Wi-Fi on your computer and connect your computer to the router's LAN (1/2/3/4) port using an Ethernet cable.

Wireless:

Connect your computer to the router wirelessly. The SSID and Wireless Password are on the router's label.

2 Enter http://tplinkwifi.net or http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar of a web browser. Create a password for future login attempts, or use admin for both username and password for some routers. Note: If the login window does not appear, please refer to FAQ > Q1.

3 Go to Quick Setup page, and follow the step-by-step instructions to complete the initial configuration.

Note: If you have changed the SSID and wireless password during the configuration, use the new SSID and wireless password to join the wireless network.

Tether App

The TP-Link Tether app provides a simple, intuitive way to access and manage your router. You can block unwelcome devices, set up Parental Controls, configure your wireless settings and more.

Scan the QR code to download the TP-Link Tether app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

* TL-WR820N is not supported on Tether app currently. Please configure your router via a web browser at http://tplinkwifi.net or http://192.168.0.1.

Q1. What can I do if the login window does not appear?

• If the computer is set to a static or fixed IP address, change the setting to obtain an IP address automatically. - Verify that http://tplinkwifi.net or http://192.168.0.1 is correctly entered in the web browser. Alternatively, enter http://192.168.1.1 in the web browser. - Use another web browser and try again. - Reboot your router and try again. - Disable and enable the network adapter in use again.

Q2. What can I do if I cannot access the internet?

- Check if the Internet is working properly by connecting a computer directly to the modem via an Ethernet cable. If it is

not, contact your Internet Service Provider.

• Open a web browser, enter http://tplinkwifi.net or http://192.168.0.1 and run the Quick Setup again.
• Reboot your router and try again.
• For cable modem users, reboot the modem first. If the problem still exists, log into the Web Management page of the router to clone the MAC address.

Q3. How do I restore the router to its factory default settings?

• With the router powered on, press and hold the Reset button on the router until all the LEDs turn on momentarily.
• Log in to the web management page of the router to restore the router to factory settings.

Q4. What can I do if I forgot my web management password?

- Refer to FAQ > Q3 to reset the router, and then create a password for future login attempts, or use admin for both username and password for some routers.

Q5. What can I do if I forgot my wireless network password?

• If you have not changed the default Wireless Password, it can be found on the product label of the router.
• Log in to the web management page of the router to retrieve or reset your wireless password.

• Keep the device away from water, fire, humidity, or hot environments.
• Do not attempt to disassemble, repair, or modify the device.
• Do not use a damaged charger or USB cable to charge the device.
