USER MANUAL FK412 GRAEF

Operating Instructions

This device conforms to the relevant safety regulations. However, incorrect handling may lead to injury and damage. Please observe the following instructions for safe handling of the unit:

  • Before using the unit check for any external visible damage of the housing, the connection cable and plug. Do not operate a damaged unit.
  • If the connection cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, the after-sales service or a similarly qualied per- son in order to prevent danger.
  • Repairs may be carried out only by an expert or by Graef af- ter-sales service. Incorrect repairs may cause considerable hazards for the user. In addition, any claim under guarantee is forfeited.
  • Defective parts must be replaced by original spare parts only. It is only with these parts that the safety requirements are met.
  • This unit can also be used by children from 8 years age as well as by persons with limited physical, sensory or mental ability or with a lack of experience and/or knowledge if they have been trained in using the unit and have understood the dangers which may result from it. Cleaning and maintenance may only be carried out by children if they are 8 years of age or older and are supervised.
  • The unit and its connection cable have to be clear of children who are younger than 8 years.
  • Children should be supervised in order to make sure that they do not play with this unit.
  • Do not leave the unit unattended during operation and decalci- cation.
  • The unit is not intended to be used with an external timer or a separate remove control.
  • Always disconnect the connection cable by using plug; do not pull the connecting cable.
  • Be careful not to let the power cord hang freely, this could cause13

the fall of the appliance.

  • Packaging materials must not be used for playing. There is a dan- ger of suffocation.

These operating instructions of the lter coffee machine (in the following referred to as uni) provides you with important information about its commissioning, secu- rity, the intended use and care of the unit. The operating instructions shall have to be available at the unit at all times. The instructions have to be read and applied by every person which deals with

  • Troubleshooting and/or
  • Cleaning of the unit. Keep these operating instructions and pass them on to the next owner along with the unit. These operating instructions cannot take into consideration every conceivable use. For further information or in case of problems which are not dealt with or not dealt with sufciently in these instructions, please get in touch with Graef customer ser- vice or your specialist dealers. WARNING MESSAGES In these operating instructions, the following warning messages and signal words are used: WARNING This refers to a potentially dangerous situation. Failure to observe this warning may result in serious injury or even death. CAUTION This refers to a potentially dangerous situation. In case of non-observation of this warning message, material damage may occur. IMPORTANT! This refers to application tips and other especially important information!17

WARNING Mortal danger is caused by contact with energised cables or components! Please observe the following safety instructions in order to prevent an exposure to electric current:

  • Do not use the unit if the mains cable or plug are damaged.
  • In this case, you should let the Graef Customer Service install a new connection cable before using the appliance again. This may be done also by an authorised specialist.
  • Do not open the housing under any circumstances. If live connections are touched or the electrical and mechanical construction are modied, there is the danger of electric shock.
  • Never touch live parts. This can cause an electric shock and may cause even death. INTENDED USE This unit is not intended for commercial use. Use the unit only in closed rooms and operate it only with water. To avoid potential hazards, use the unit only for coffee preparation. Any other use is not permitted.

All technical information, data and notes on the installation, the operation and the care contained in these operating instructions correspond to the last status before printing, and are rendered under consideration of our previous experience and to the best of knowledge. No claims may be derived from the particulars, illustrations and descriptions in these instructions. The manufacturer shall not assume any liability for damage caused by:

  • non-observation of the instructions
  • technical modications

  • Remove the unit from the box.
  • Remove the packaging parts.18

The packaging protects the unit against transport damage. The packaging materi- als are selected according to the environmental compatibility and disposal-related aspects and can therefore be recycled. The return of packaging into the material cycle saves raw material and reduces the waste volume. Dispose of the packaging material no longer needed at collection points for the “Green Dot” recycling system (in Germany). IMPORTANT! Keep the original packaging during the warranty period so that the unit can be properly packed and transported in the event of a warranty claim.

REQUIREMENTS ON THE INSTALLATION LOCATION

For safe and fault free operation of the unit, the following requirements of the installation location have to be met:

  • The unit has to be placed on a solid, at, horizontal, and non-slipping surface with a sufcient weight-carrying capacity.
  • Make sure that the unit cannot topple over.
  • Choose the location in such a way that children cannot reach the hot surface of the unit or the supply lines.
  • Do not place the appliance on hot surfaces, such as hotplates, or near them.
  • Do not use the unit outdoors and keep it in a dry place.
  • The unit is not designed for installation in a wall or a built-in cupboard.
  • Do not set up the unit in a hot, wet or moist environment.
  • The socket has to be easily accessible so that the power cable can be removed easily in case of emergency. ELECTRICAL CONNECTION For safe and fault-free operation of the unit, the following requirements have to be met during the electrical connection:
  • Before connecting the unit, compare the connecting data (voltage and frequency) on the type plate with those of your energy network. These details must corre- spond so that no damage occurs to the unit. In case of uncertainty, contact a qualied electrician.
  • The socket has to be protected at least by a 10 amps circuit breaker.
  • Make sure that the power cable is not damaged and is not laid across hot surfaces or sharp edges.
  • The connecting cable must not be stretched tightly.
  • The electric safety of the unit is ensured only when it is connected to a socket with protective conductor installed correctly. Operation at a socket outlet without a protective earth conductor is not permitted. If in doubt, let the house installa- tion checked by a trained electrician. The manufacturer shall not assume respon-19

sibility for damage which has been caused by absent or interrupted protective conductor.

Before initial use, after non-using the unit for a long time or after descaling it, we recommend to carry out 2 brewing operations for approximately 4 cups as de- scribed in the following, but without coffee. PREPARING COFFEE

  • Fill the water tank with water. IMPORTANT! When lling the water tank, please observe the following:
  • Water level indicators with 2 units of measure are located on the side. The left unit of measure refers to a large cup (125 ml) and the right unit of measure refers to a small cup (83 ml).
  • Fill the water tank to the maximum 8 / 12 cup level marking.
  • Preheat the insulated coffee pot with hot water.
  • Open the coffee lter.
  • Put in one lter bag (size 1 x 4 or number 4).
  • Fill the coffee lter with coffee grounds. Note: We recommend that you freshly grind the coffee using a Graef coffee grind- er. You can purchase coffee grinders in our online shop www.graef.de. Recommended quantity: Large cups (125 ml) Small cups (83 ml) Measuring spoon (level)
  • Close the coffee lter.
  • Put the insulated coffee pot below the coffee lter. Check to see that the insulat- ed coffee pot sits correctly below the coffee lter.
  • Switch the unit on. Note: Thanks to the automatic drip stop function, your can remove the insulated coffee pot already during the brewing operation and make yourself a cup of cof- fee. Once the insulated coffee pot has been reinserted, the brewing operation will continue.
  • After completion of the brewing operation, the unit will switch off.
  • Dispose of the used lter bag.20 CLEANING IMPORTANT! Watch the following safety instructions before starting to clean the unit:
  • Switch the unit off before cleaning and pull the power cord from the electric socket.
  • Let the unit cool down before cleaning.
  • Use a soft and moist cloth to clean the outer surfaces of the unit. Use a mild de- tergent in case of heavy soiling.
  • Remove the coffee lter.
  • Remove the lid from the insulated coffee pot.
  • Clean these parts in hot rinsing water.
  • Then towel them well and reinsert the coffee lter and insulated coffee pot. DESCALING Descale the unit in regular intervals. This will extend the service life of your unit. How often you must descale the unit depends on the water hardness in your area. If you have very hard water (above 26° dH) and drink coffee very often, we recom- mend that you descale the unit every two to three weeks. IMPORTANT! We accept no liability for missing or insufcient decalcication. In this case, the warranty will become null and void. You can descale the unit using any household descaling agent. Observe the manu- facturer's instructions and comply with the operating manual. Note: Pour water into the tank up to the 6 / 9 cup marking. Put in a lter bag so that lime residues are absorbed therein.
  • Put the insulated coffee pot below the coffee lter.
  • Let the liquid ow through.
  • Dispose of the lter bag after completion of the operation.
  • The unit switches Off.
  • Now rinse the machine with clear water. Pour clear water into the water tank up to the 6 / 9 cup marking.
  • Put the insulated coffee pot below the coffee lter.
  • Switch the machine on and let the water ow through.
  • After completion of the operation, pour the water away.

DISPOSAL OF THE UNIT

At the end of its service life, this product cannot be disposed of in normal domestic waste. The symbol on the unit and in the instruction manual indicates this. The materials are recyclable according to your marking. With the reuse, recycling or other forms of recycling of old equipment, you make an important contribution to the protection of our environment. TWO-YEAR WARRANTY For this product, we assume 24 months manufacturer warranty for defects, which are due to production or material defects. The warranty does not cover damage caused by improper handling or use as well as defects which only slightly inuence the function or the value of the appliance. Transport damages, as far as we are not responsible for it, are exclud- ed from the warranty claims. A warranty claim is excluded for damage caused by a repair which has not been carried out by us or one of our agents.
