They contain important information in regard to safety, use and disposal. Before using the product, familiarise yourself with all operating and safety instructions. Only use the product as described and for the specifi ed areas of application. Please also pass all documents on to whoever might acquire the product at a future date. Intended use This appliance is intended exclusively for boiling water in domestic households. It is not intended for use with any other liquids or for commercial applications. Safety instructions DANGER - RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK! ► Ensure that the base with the electrical connections NEVER comes into contact with water! Allow the base to dry completely if it accidentally becomes wet. ► Use the kettle only with the supplied base. ► Ensure that the power cable never becomes wet or damp when the appliance is in use. Route the cable so that it cannot be trapped or damaged in any way. ► To avoid risks, arrange for defective plugs and/or power cables to be replaced at once by qualifi ed technicians or our Customer Service Department. ► ALWAYS remove the plug from the mains power socket after use. Switching the appliance off is not suffi cient, because the appli- ance is under power for as long as the plug is connected to the power socket. ► Check the appliance for externally visible damage before use. Do not use a damaged appliance or one that has been dropped. ► Have all repairs carried out by authorised specialist companies or customer service. Incompetent repairs may result in risks for the user. Warranty claims also become void. Never submerse the appliance in water or other liquids! WARNING - RISK OF INJURY! ► Keep lid closed when boiling water, otherwise the automatic switch- off cannot work. Boiling water could then spray out over the rim. ► Clods of hot steam may be released. The kettle also becomes extremely hot during use. It is always best to wear oven mitts when handling the kettle. ► Ensure that the appliance is stable and vertical before switching it on. Boiling water can cause an unstable kettle to fall over. ► Do not open the lid while the water is boiling. ► Appliances may be used by persons with reduced physical, sen- sory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and/or knowl- edge if they are supervised or have been instructed how to use the appliance safely and have understood the potential risks. ► This appliance may be used by children aged 8 years or over if they are supervised or or have been instructed how to use the appliance safely and have understood the potential risks. Cleaning and user maintenance tasks must not be carried out by children unless they are aged 8 years or more and are super- vised. The appliance and its connecting cable must be kept away from children younger than 8 years old. ► Children must not play with the appliance. ► Do not fi ll the kettle up to more than the MAX marking! Otherwise boiling water may spill out! CAUTION - PROPERTY DAMAGE! ► Do not use an external timing switch or a separate remote control system to operate the appliance. ► Never leave the appliance unattended during operation. ► Ensure that the appliance, the power cable or the plug do not come into contact with heat sources such as hotplates or open fl ames. Preparation Unpacking Ƈ Remove all parts of the appliance and the operating instructions from the box. Ƈ Remove all packing material. WARNING Risk of suff ocation! ► Packaging material must not be used for playing with. Risk of suff ocation. Disposal of packaging The packaging protects the appliance from damage during transport. The packaging materials are selected according to their environmental friendliness and disposal attributes - and are therefore recyclable. Recirculation of packaging into the material fl ow saves conserves raw materials and reduces the amount of waste generated. Dispose of packaging material that is no longer needed in line with the applicable local regulations. NOTE
If possible, keep the appliance's original packaging during the warranty period so that, in the event of a warranty claim, you can pack the appliance properly for its return. Starting to use the appliance WARNING - RISK OF INJURY! ► Always use nothing but fresh drinking water in the kettle! Do not consume any water that is not certifi ed as potable. If you do, you are taking a risk with your health! Before starting to use the appliance, ensure that ... – The appliance, power plug and power cord are in proper condition and ... – all packaging materials have been removed from the appliance.
1) Open the lid by pressing the release button 2 towards the handle and, at
the same time, lifting the lid upwards.
2) Fill the appliance with water up to the MAX mark and let it come to a full
boil once – as described in the next section.
3) After it has boiled, pour this water away.
4) Rinse the kettle 8 out with clean water.
5) Fill the appliance with water once again, up to the MAX mark, and then
bring it to boil. When done, pour this water away also. The appliance is now ready for use. Boiling water RISK - ELECTRIC SHOCK!
NEVER place the electrical base 6 in close proximity to water –Risk of fatal electric shock! WARNING - RISK OF INJURY! ► Always use fresh drinking water. Do not consume any water that has al- ready stood in the kettle for longer than one hour. Do not reboil water that has cooled down. Always pour old water away. It may contain germs! NOTE
Always ensure that the on/off switch 4 is in the " " position when the mains plug is unplugged and the appliance is standing on the base 6. If not, the appliance could heat up unintentionally as soon as the mains plug is plugged in again.
1) Remove the kettle 8 to fi ll it!
2) Open the lid by pressing the release button 2 towards the handle and, at
the same time, lifting the lid upwards. NOTE
Hold the kettle 8 upright when fi lling it. This is the only way to read the markings on the scale 3 correctly.
3) Fill the kettle 8...
– to at least the MIN mark, so that the appliance does not overheat, – no further than the MAX mark, so that boiling water cannot spill out.
4) First close the lid and then place the kettle 8 on the base 6, such that it
stands securely on the base 6.

If you wish to stop or interrupt the boiling procedure, simply move the On/Off switch 4 back to the " " position. You can continue the boiling process, but you must wait for 20 seconds until the heating element has cooled down. You can then switch the appliance back on. CAUTION - PROPERTY DAMAGE!
Do not press the On/Off switch 4 during the cooling phase, since this could result in damage to the appliance.
7) Disconnect the appliance from the mains power socket when not is not in
use, in order to prevent an unintentional activation. WARNING - RISK OF INJURY! ► For safety reasons you should not open the lid when the water is boiling or extremely hot. Risk of scalding. TIPS
This appliance is equipped with an overheating protection: if the appliance is switched on unintentionally without any water in the kettle 8, the appliance switches itself off automatically. If the appliance boils dry because the lid has not been closed, for example, the appliance switches itself off automatically. In these cases, allow the appliance to cool down before using it again. Before cleaning the appliance, disconnect the plug from the mains power socket! Otherwise there is the risk of receiving an electric shock! ► Never open any housing parts. There are no user-serviceable elements inside. When the housing is open, there is the risk of receiving a potentially fatal electrical shock. NEVER immerse the appliance in water or other liquids! You could receive a fatal electric shock if residual liquids come into contact with live components during operation. WARNING - RISK OF INJURY! ► Allow the appliance to cool suffi ciently before cleaning it. Risk of burns! CAUTION - PROPERTY DAMAGE!
Do not use abrasive or caustic cleaning agents. These can attack the surface and damage the appliance beyond repair. ■ Clean all exterior surfaces with a lightly moistened dishcloth. Always dry the appliance properly before using it again. For stubborn soiling use a mild detergent on the cloth. Ensure that there is no detergent residue on or in the appliance before using it again. ■ Rinse the inside of the kettle 8 out with clean water. ■ If there are any deposits in the kettle 8, wipe out the inside surface with a moist cloth, or use a washing up brush or bottle brush. Then rinse the kettle 8 out with clean water again. In the event of scale deposits Scale deposits on the bottom of the appliance lead to increased energy consumption and reduce the service life of the appliance. Descale the appliance as soon as scale deposits become apparent. ■ Use a descaler that is designed for household appliances (e.g. coff ee machines). Storage ■ Let the appliance cool down completely before putting it into storage. ■ Wind the power cable around the cable storage 7 beneath the base 6. ■ Store the appliance in a dry location. Fault rectifi cation Malfunction Cause Solution The appliance not working. The plug is not inserted into a mains power socket. Connect the plug to the power supply. The appliance is not switched on. Switch the appliance on. The appliance is defective. Contact Customer Services The appliance has over- heated and the overheating protection is active. Allow the appliance to cool down. The ON/OFF switch 4 is not engaging. The kettle 8 is not on the base 6. Place the kettle 8 on the base 6. The appliance is defective. In this case, contact Customer Services. Disposal of the appliance Do not dispose of the appliance in your normal domestic waste. This product is subject to the provisions of European Directive 2012/19/EU. Dispose of the appliance through an approved disposal centre or at your community waste facility. Please observe the currently applicable regulations.
