Frequently Asked Questions - FR1X ROLAND

How to install batteries in the Roland FR-1x?
Turn off the instrument, remove the battery compartment cover by pressing the two tabs. Insert 8 Ni-MH rechargeable AA batteries respecting the + and - polarities. Close the cover.
Can I use headphones with the FR-1x?
Yes, connect stereo headphones (recommended: Roland RH series) to the PHONES jack. Internal speakers are automatically muted. Adjust the volume with the VOLUME control.
How to connect the FR-1x to a computer?
Connect a standard USB cable (type A to type B) between the USB COMPUTER port of the FR-1x and a USB port of the computer. You can then transmit MIDI data. Make sure the USB Driver parameter is set to 'Gen' (generic) for driverless use.
How to restore factory settings on the FR-1x?
For a full reset, turn on the power while holding down the right hand registers [3] and [4]. The display shows 'rSt' then 'don'. Turn off and on again.
The FR-1x produces no sound. What to do?
Check that the VOLUME control is not at minimum, that you are not in External Sequencer mode (set to 'no' in MIDI settings), and operate the bellows if using accordion sounds.
How to use the USB audio player?
Copy MP3 or WAV files (44.1 kHz, 16 bits) to the root of a Roland USB key (M-UF series). Connect the key to the USB MEMORY port on the right hand panel. Press [▶/■] to start playback.
What is the battery life of the FR-1x?
With 2000 mAh Ni-MH batteries, approximately 5 hours with internal speakers on and 8 hours when off (headphones or line output). Actual battery life depends on usage.
How to adjust the bellows resistance?
Use the bellows resistance adjuster located near a strap. Press the knob then turn it: clockwise for greater inertia, counterclockwise for less inertia.
What to do if the screen displays 'bAt'?
This indicates that the batteries are low. Replace them as soon as possible. You can also check battery status by holding the [FREE BASS] button: 'ooo' = full, flashing 'o' = low.
How to save my personal settings?
Press [USER PROGRAM] then a right hand register (1 to 8) to memorize the settings. For external backup, connect a Roland USB key and use the save/load functions from the PARAMETER menu.
