1.2 Concerning certain groups of persons

These appliances can be used by children of 8 years and upwards and persons with impaired physical, sensory or mental abilities, or insufficient experience or knowledge, providing they are supervised or have been instructed in the proper use of the appliance and understand the risks involved.
Children must not perform cleaning or user maintenance tasks without supervision.
Children must not play with the appliance. Children must not be allowed to stand or sit on the appliance.
Children under the age of eight should be kept away from the appliance and the connection cable whilst it is switched on or cooling down.
- Packing material must not be used to play with. There is danger of suffocation.

1.3 Concerning rechargeable batteries

The appliance contains rechargeable batteries. Wrong handling of the batteries can cause injury and explosion.

  • Never short-circuit the batteries, i.e. never touch both poles simultaneously, especially with metal objects.
    Only use the mains adapter supplied with the appliance for charging the rechargeable batteries. Never charge the batteries with another mains adapter. Only use the mains adapter supplied with the appliance for charging the batteries of this appliance.

■ Never dismantle the batteries.
- Never expose the batteries to high temperatures.
- Wrong use can cause fluid to leak from the batteries. This can cause skin irritations. Avoid any contact with the fluid. If fluid gets onto your skin, wash it away with lots of water. If the fluid comes into contact with your eyes, immediately rinse them with water for 10 minutes and consult a doctor.
If it becomes necessary to replace the batteries, contact a specialist dealer or Dirt Devil Customer Services. Never exchange the batteries yourself, and by no means replace the batteries with batteries of a different type. We assume no liability for any damage resulting from improperly replaced batteries.

1.4 Concerning the power supply

The appliance is charged and operated with electricity, so there is a principle risk of electric shock. So please especially observe the following:

  • Never touch the mains adapter with wet hands.
  • Never immerse the appliance or the AC adapter in water or other fluids and keep them away from rain and moisture.
    If you want to pull the power unit out of the socket, always pull directly on the plug. Never pull the mains adapter's power cord.
    Do not carry the mains adapter by its power cord.
    Take care that the mains adapter's power cord is not bent, pinched, rolled over or gets in contact with heat sources.
  • Only charge the appliance if the voltage indicated on the mains adapter matches the voltage of your socket.
    ■ Always check the mains adapter's power cord for possible damages before using it.

1.5 Concerning appropriate Use

This appliance may only be used in households. It is not suitable for industrial or commercial use.
The battery powered hand-held vacuum cleaner must be used exclusively for vacuuming up small quantities of dust. Any other use is considered inappropriate and is prohibited.

It is especially forbidden:

  • To use the appliance near explosive or easily flammable substances. There is danger of fire or explosion.
  • To store or charge the appliance outdoors. There is danger of rain and dirt destroying the appliance.
  • To stick objects into the appliance's openings. It could overheat.
    ■ To modify or repair the appliance or the mains adapter on your own.

It is also forbidden to vacuum up:

parts of persons, animals, plants, especially hair, fingers and other parts of the body as well as pieces of clothing worn on the body. They could be pulled in and cause severe injuries.
■ hot ash, burning cigarettes or matches. This could cause a fire.
■ water and other liquids. Moisture inside the appliance can cause a short-circuit.
■ toner (for laser printers, copying machines, etc.). There is danger of fire or explosion.
- pointed objects, such as glass shards, nails, etc. as well as plaster, cement, rubble, makeup, facial powder, etc. They can damage the appliance.

1.6 If the appliance is defective

  • Never use a defective appliance. If the power cord of the mains adapter for this appliance is damaged it must be replaced by the manufacturers, their authorised service representative or a similarly qualified person to avoid danger.
    ■ Bring or send defective appliances to a specialist dealer or to Dirt Devil Customer Services for repair (▷Seite 88, „International Service“).

1.7 Disposal

When the appliance, especially the batteries, have reached the end of their service life or when dysfunctions recur, disable the appliance by removing the batteries.

The filter elements are made from environmentally compatible materials and can be disposed of with the domestic waste.

2.1 Charging the rechargeable batteries

WARNING:

Risk of injury from improper charging! Only use the power adapter supplied with the appliance to charge the batteries.

ATTENTION:

Take care to fully charge and then fully discharge the batteries. Avoid charging for more than 15 hours. This would reduce the service life of the rechargeable batteries.

NOTE:

An appliance cannot be charged when switched on.

  1. Make sure that the On/Off switch ("") (Fig. 1/3) is not in the "ON" position.
  2. Connect the power adapter plug (Fig. 1/12) to the charging socket (Fig. 1/5) on the handle of the hand-held vacuum cleaner (Fig. 2).
  3. Now, connect the power adapter to a socket with the voltage indicated on the type plate. The charging indicator light (Fig. 1/2) lights up red.
  4. Now charge the rechargeable batteries for approximately 7 hours until the charging indicator light (Fig. 1/2) lights up green (Fig. 3).
  5. Disconnect the power adapter from the socket and from the appliance.

Your hand-held vacuum cleaner is now ready for use.

2.2 Using the crevice nozzle

The crevice nozzle (Fig. 1/10) is for vacuuming hard to reach nooks.

NOTE:

You can attach the crevice nozzle as required (Fig. 4). If necessary, you can also attach the furniture brush (Fig. 1/10) to the crevice nozzle to vacuum clean sensitive surfaces (Fig. 4).

2.3 Switching on and off

To switch the hand-held vacuum cleaner on or off, slide the On/Off switch ("☐" (Fig. 1/3) forward or back.

2.4 Emptying the dust bin and cleaning the permanent filter

ATTENTION:

Do not use hard brushes, cleaning agents or scouring agents or alcohol, as these might damage the appliance's housing.

The dust container can only hold a limited amount of dirt. Therefore, it is best to empty it after each vacuuming session.

  1. Slide the On/Off switch (“”) (Fig. 1/3) into the “OFF” position.
  2. Push the release catch (Fig. 1/1) on the top of the appliance (Fig. 5).
  3. Hold the dust bin (Fig. 1/7) low over a dustbin with the permanent filter inserted (Fig. 1/6).
  4. Do not remove the permanent filter from the dust bin until you have done so.
  5. Tap out the residue of dust or remove it by hand (Fig. 6, Fig. 7).
  6. If the permanent filter is soiled, rinse it thoroughly under running water (Fig. 8).
  7. If you have wet-cleaned the permanent filter, leave the filter to dry and room temperature for approximately 24 hours after wet cleaning (Fig. 9). Do not re-insert it until it is fully dry.
  8. Re-insert the permanent filter all the way into the dust bin.

NOTE:

The permanent filter is designed so that it only fits completely in the correct position.

  1. Fit the dust bin so that the groove at the bottom of the dust bin (Fig. 6/arrow) engages with the tab on the bottom of the motor unit.
  2. Push the dust bin firmly at the top to put it back in place (Fig. 7/arrow). You must be able to feel and hear it click into place.

3.1 Correcting problems yourself

If the permanent filter (Fig. 1/6) is damaged, replace it immediately (▷page 3, „Accessories and spare parts“).

WARNING:

Risk of injury! Never use or charge a faulty appliance! Always switch off the appliance and disconnect the mains adapter before starting troubleshooting.

NOTE:

3.2 Removing the rechargeable batteries

WARNING:

Risk of injuries if rechargeable batteries are replaced improperly! It is necessary to replace the rechargeable batteries, contact a specialist dealer or the Dirt Devil customer service department. Never replace the rechargeable batteries yourself. Do not under any circumstances replace the rechargeable batteries with other rechargeable batteries or single-use batteries.

ATTENTION:

Risk of environmental damage! The appliance contains rechargeable batteries that must not end up in domestic waste. Dispose of the appliance and the removed rechargeable batteries separately by handling them over at the appropriate collection points.

  1. Operate the appliance until the rechargeable batteries have been run completely flat and the appliance motor stops.
  2. Unfasten the screws on the side of the motor unit with a cross-head screwdriver.
  3. Remove the cover.
  4. Remove the installed rechargeable batteries.
  5. Replace the cover and tighten the screws again.
