Temperaturregulating

Congratulations on your new refrigerator

Please note that these instructions apply to all KS and K models and therefore the illustrations and accessories/equipment described can vary from model to model.

WARNING

Old refrigerators and freezers are often fitted with complicated latches that can only be opened from the outside. If you have an old unit like this stored away somewhere, or if you scrap it, remember to destroy the latch to prevent children from being exposed to danger by getting locked inside the unit.

Note! Please also observe the environmental rules on disposal. See section "Disposal".

Before using your refrigerator

Please read the section on setting up and building in, starting up, and electrical connection before using your refrigerator. On receipt, check to ensure that the refrigerator has not become damaged in transport. Transport damage should be reported to the local supplier before the refrigerator is put to use.

Fold out the final pages with illustrations. You will then be able to follow text and pictures at the same time.

Setting up and building in

For safety and operational reasons, do not set up the refrigerator outdoors.

Your refrigerator should be placed in a dry room.

The refrigerator is designed for temperature class N in accordance with European standard EN 153.

The surface on which the appliance is placed must be plane. Do not use a plinth or similar.

Never place the refrigerator close to sources of heat such as ovens or radiators, and avoid placing it in direct sunlight.

The refrigerator can be set up free-standing against a wall - built into a kitchen cupboard - or lined up with other models of the same width.

It is important that the refrigerator stands completely level and that there is good air circulation over, under and around it.

The dimensions give the actual size of the opening. The figures in brackets apply to combination units.

Single cabinets require a circulation area of at least 200~cm^2 combination units 300 cm².

1A Building in with ventilation grill

Refrigerator or refrigerator/freezer combination in a standard kitchen element with sufficient ventilation for the compressor around the refrigerator/combination.

1B Building into a refrigerator element

Refrigerator or refrigerator/freezer combination with integral ventilation. Air flows in through the plinth and is led to the rear of the cabinet.

1C Building in under a worktop

Table-height models (TU/TUG) under a worktop or as an extension of the worktop to give extra table space. If the ventilation clearance cannot be provided, an opening can be made in the worktop.

It is also important that the cabinet stands absolutely level. The setting screws under the cabinet can be adjusted to make sure that it does stand level.

You can change the door from righthand to lefthand - hinged or vice versa yourself

Proceed as follows.

Is your refrigerator fitted with a tabletop remove the tabletop thus:

Loosen the four screws with a screwdriver. The tabletop can now be drawn out of the frame 2The tabletop frame can be loosened by removing the two front screws with a key 3

Lay the cabinet on its back with door uppermost.

Take off the door handle using a screwdriver.

Remove the two supporting rails underneath the cabinet (not applicable to cabinets with a base).

On TU-cabinets remove the two front legs (the legs nearest the door) thus:

Screw the nylon leg 4ut manually. The screw in the bush 5an be removed with a screwdriver. Both bush and inner washer can then be removed.

To remove the door, remove the coverplugs with a knife or something similar and then the screws ing a key as 9 shown on the drawing.

Move the hinges and dummy hinges diagonally (upper righthand hinge to lower lefthand corner and lower righthand hinge to upper lefthand corner).

When the door is mounted, a 9 mm filler (wood or something similar) should be placed between the front of the cabinet and the edge of the door to create sufficient space for the sealing strip.

Remember to place the correct number of washers beneath the bottom hinge to ensure that the door has the correct height.

Replace the supporting rails and install the cabinet.

Once the cabinet has been placed in its correct position, the hinges may need readjustment. The elongated holes in the hinges make this readjustment possible so that the sealing strips provide optimum sealing all the way round.

Starting up

If during transport the refrigerator has been laid down, or if it has been stored in cold surroundings (colder than +5^ ) it must be allowed to stabilise for at least 1 hour before switching on.

Start the refrigerator by plugging into a wall socket.

Electrical connection

The cabinet is intended for connection to alternating current. The connection values for voltage (V) and frequency (Hz) are given on the nameplate placed in the cabinet.

Power must be connected via a wall socket with a switch. The wall socket should be easily accessible.

All earthing requirements stipulated by local electricity authorities must be observed. The cabinet plug and wall socket should then give correct earthing. If in doubt, contact your supplier or authorized electrician.

WARNING -

This appliance must be earthed

The flexible cord fitted to this appliance has three cores for use with a 3-pin 13-Amp or 3-pin 15-Amp plug. If a B.S. 1363 (13 Amp) fused plug is used, it should be fitted with a 13 Amp fuse.

Important

The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: GREEN-AND-YELLOW:EARTH BLUE:NEUTRAL BROWN:LIVE

The colours of wires in the mains lead of this appliance might not correspond with the colour markings identifying the terminals in your plug.

Proceed as follows:

Connect the GREEN-AND-YELLOW wire to the plug terminal marked by "E" or an earth symbol, or coloured GREEN or GREEN-AND-YELLOW. Connect the BLUE wire to the plug terminal marked "N" or coloured BLACK.

Connect the BROWN wire to the plug terminal marked "L" or coloured RED

Temperature regulation

The cabinet is started by setting the temperature regulating knob 41 12 the middle of the range.

In some models the knob is child-proof and a coin or something similar must be used to turn the knob to the desired setting. In other models the temperature can be set by just turning the knob with the fingers.

After an hour or two the cabinet will cool down.

If you require a lower temperature, turn the knob towards "Max". For a higher temperature, turn the knob towards "0".

When the temperature regulating knob is in position "0" the compressor is stopped.

Note: The temperature inside the cabinet can vary, depending on the temperature in the room, the number of times the door is opened, the location in the room, etc. These factors must be considered when setting the temperature.

Using the cabinet, accessories

It is warmest in the door and the upper part of the cabinet; the bottom of the cabinet is coldest.

The short shelf can be tilted and used as a bottle shelf. To tilt the shelf, lower the rear support down to the next shelf support.

Vegetable drawer/drawers

The drawer/drawers in the bottom of the refrigerator are very suitable for storing fruit and vegetables. The overlying shelf covers the drawer and prevents stored items from drying out.

Serving boxes in the door

The boxes are ideal for all kinds of food. The tight-fitting lids prevent drying out and save much time in tedious wrapping and unwrapping.

The serving boxes are made of material that remains unaffected by mineral oil, fats and weak acids. They withstand temperatures below 0^ and up to 100^ and can be cleaned in a dishwasher, but must never be placed close to the heating element.

Serving boxes can also be purchased as accessories.

Bottle shelf/shelves in the door

The bottle shelf can be adjusted in height by moving the special fitting to another set of holes in the shelf

The bottle shelf can be adjusted in steps of 10cm

Defrosting

Defrosting is fully automatic, controlled by a sensor which ensures that cooling does not start until the evaporator has been completely defrosted.

If, nevertheless, an unusual amount of frost does build up, manual defrosting is possible by turning the temperature regulating knob counterclockwise to "0" and waiting for the frost to disappear.

Once the evaporator is free of ice, start the cooling again by turning the temperature regulating knob clockwise towards "Max." Do not turn the knob right back to its "old" position.

Cleaning

The cabinet is best cleaned with a weak soap solution.

Do not use cleaning agents that might cause scratches.

The life of the sealing strip will be prolonged if it is clened regularly.

The plastic parts cannot withstand boiling water (max. temp. 85^ ).

Useful hints

Door sticking:

Opening and closing the door creates underpressure in the cabinet. If you need to open and close the door repeatedly within a short period, lay something between the door sealing strip and cabinet front edge to create an air gap.

The refrigerator is to remain unused for a time

After the refrigerator has been defrosted and cleaned, leave the door slightly ajar. This will prevent bad smells.

Compressor does not run

  • Check the temperature setting.
  • Check to ensure that power is switched on and that the plug has been properly inserted into the wall socket.

Unfamiliar sounds

Can be caused by tubes in the appliance contacting each other or the outer cladding.
- Check to make sure the refrigerator is standing level.

Liquid noise

Caused by circulating refrigerant. This is quite normal, even when the compressor is not running.

Note also

The compressor starting system often needs a pause before it can be restarted. The compressor will itself automatically decide how long the pause is to be.

Blocked defrost/melt water drain

If blockage does occur, the most likely point is the plastic bend at the outlet inside the cabinet. Carefully remove the blockage, then for safety's sake clean the bend with a pipe cleaner or similar.

If the problem persists, the blockage might be in the tube down to the evaporation tray. The tray is located above the compressor at the rear of the refrigerator.

Spare parts

When ordering spare parts, please give the refrigerator type and part number. This information is given on the nameplate inside the cabinet.

Replacing the bulb

Use a 15 Watt, 240 Volt bulb with a miniature base.

Turn the lock 4 quarter turn and remove the screen 5 gain access and change the bulb.

In some models, a gentle push will remove the screen - see 4 13

Disposal

If a refrigerator for which there is no longer any use is to be disposed of, please do so in an environmentally correct way. There might be special requirements/conditions to be observed.
