  • Keep the kettle, power base and the mains lead away from the edge of worktops and out the reach of children.
  • Do not operate the kettle unless it contains at least 200ml of water and the floor of the kettle is covered with water.
  • Do not allow the mains lead to hang over edge of the work top, or anywhere it may accidentally be caught or tripped over.
  • Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used near children.
  • Do not leave appliance unattended when in use.
  • This appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision.

When using any electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:

  • To be protected against electrical hazards do not immerse the mains lead, plug, power base, or kettle in water or any other liquid.
  • Do not use in a bathroom or outdoors.
  • Use handles or knobs. Do not touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not open the lid when the water is boiling.
  • Take care when pouring – pour slowly, and do not over-tilt the kettle.
  • Water will remain hot for a considerable time after boiling and can present a scald hazard. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS 071008_ DDK6 EU DOME KETTLE IB.qxp 08/10/2008 16:35 Page 4• Unplug the power base from the wall socket when not in use, before moving and cleaning.
  • Allow the kettle to completely cool before cleaning and storing.
  • Ensure that the lid is fully closed before switching the kettle on, otherwise it may not properly switch off.
  • Ensure that the kettle is correctly placed onto the power base before switching on.
  • Do not fill above the max mark on the water level indicator.
  • Remove the kettle from its power base before filling or pouring.

CCAAUUTTIIOONN:: Do not operate the kettle on an inclined plane. Do not operate the kettle unless the element is fully immersed. Do not move while the kettle is switched on. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

CCAAUUTTIIOONN:: To prevent damage to the appliance do not use alkaline cleaning agents when cleaning, use a soft cloth and a mild detergent.

  • Do not place the kettle, power base, or mains lead on or near any hot surface, hot hob or gas burners.
  • Do not use the kettle for any purpose other than heating water.
  • Do not operate any appliance with a damaged lead or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. If the mains lead is damaged, it must be replaced by a special cordset available from Dualit helpline: + 44 (0) 1293 652 500
  • For household use only. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
  • Remove all packaging from the kettle and its power base.
  • Before using the kettle for the first time, or if it has been out of use for a long time, fill to the max mark and boil, then discard the boiled water and rinse the kettle out with fresh cold water.
  • Check that the voltage marked on the appliance corresponds with the supply voltage.

NNOOTTEE:: Any plug cut from power supply cord should be disposed of immediately. Inserting any cut off plug into a 13A socket-outlet is hazardous.

  • Never use the plug without the fuse cover fitted. Ensure replacement fuse is the same current value as original.
  • Replacement fuses are available from Dualit and should be ASTA approved to BS 1362.
  • Position the power base as close to a wall socket as possible. Locate the mains cable so that it does not overhang the work surface, and cannot be caught accidentally. Shorten the mains lead by winding it around the cord storage area under the powerbase, and bring it out of the cord exit in the base.
  • Remove the kettle from the power base. If the switch has been pushed down inadvertently, it will spring up into the “off” position.
  • Hold the kettle handle firmly in one hand, hold the lid knob in the other, and pull the lid straight up. As soon as it separates from the kettle, move it out of the rising steam.
  • Open the lid and fill the kettle via the lid aperture. Not through the spout.
  • Observe water level when filling, you must use at least 200ml of water, but the water level must be below the Max mark indicated on the viewing window.
  • Do not overfill the kettle. If the kettle is overfilled, there is a risk that boiling water may be ejected from the spout and lid.
  • Replace the lid and ensure it is firmly in place. Check that it is fully closed, otherwise the kettle may not switch off when boiling.
  • Check that the switch is in the “Off” position (lift the kettle from the power base and set it down again taking care not to spill any water).
  • The switch will only operate when the kettle is correctly fitted onto the base.
  • Plug the power base into the wall socket. If necessary, switch on the wall socket.
  • Press the switch down. The neon light will light up and the kettle will start to heat up.

FILLING SWITCHING ON SWITCHING ON

  • Remove the kettle from the power base before attempting to pour.
  • When filling or carrying the kettle, do not tilt it backwards, as this may allow water to pass through the steam tube onto the control area. Should this happen, the kettle must be allowed to dry before reuse.
  • To avoid the risk of splashing, wait 10 seconds to allow the water to settle then pour slowly and do not over-tilt the kettle.

  • Do not switch the kettle on unless it contains at least one cup of water. Misuse of this kind will shorten the life of the kettle.
  • If the kettle is accidentally switched on when it does not contain sufficient water, a boil-dry device will automatically switch it off. Wait until the kettle has cooled down before refilling. Take caution as the lid may be hot and the water may spit as it touches the kettle base.
  • Switch the kettle off (lift it from the power base), unplug the power base from the wall socket, and let the kettle cool down completely before cleaning. Wipe the outside and inside surfaces of the kettle with a damp cloth.
  • If necessary, you may use a little household detergent. To clean the filter, see “Water filter” below.
  • If you use detergent inside the kettle, rinse thoroughly afterwards to remove all traces.
  • Ensure that all connectors and sockets are kept dry.
  • Do not immerse the kettle or power base in water or any other liquid.
  • Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners or solvents. SWITCHING ON

SERVICING 071008_ DDK6 EU DOME KETTLE IB.qxp 08/10/2008 16:35 Page 8• When descaling, follow the instructions on the packet of the descaler. When descaling has finished, empty the kettle and rinse it out numerous times with fresh water, then refill with freshwater, boil, and discard boiled water. Depending upon the hardness of the water the scale particles that remain suspended in the water may give a cloudy appearance. The filter fitted to your kettle will help prevent these particles passing into your drink. You therefore must ensure that the filter is kept clean and clear of deposits, otherwise the performance of the filter may be affected, your drinks may contain scale and the water inside the kettle may look cloudy.

  • Scale build-up will cause the element to overheat, reducing its working life. It may also cause the safety cutout to operate prematurely, switching the kettle off before the water actually boils.
  • As the kettle uses an under floor type element, lime scale can only build up on the walls and floor of the kettle, this is readily seen and should be promptly dealt with.
  • Empty the kettle after each use; do not allow water to stand in the kettle overnight; use filtered water instead of tap water.
  • Descale the kettle regularly, at least once a month, using a proprietary brand of descaler. In areas of very hard water descaling may be necessary more often.
  • You should clean the filter when ever there are any obvious deposits left on the mesh and especially if pouring is affected.
  • Make sure that your hands are clean and free from hand cream, soap or similar, which might leave a slight taint to the water.
  • Remove the kettle from the power base and ensure kettle is cold.
  • Open the lid. Hold the top of the filter and pull it gently up and out of the kettle. Rinse it under a tap whilst softly brushing it with a soft brush. Rinse the kettle out with fresh water.
  • To replace, align the sides of the filter with the grooves in the filter holder, and slide it slowly downwards and back into place.
  • You have followed the instructions correctly.
  • The plug fuse has not blown.
  • The main supply fuse/circuit breaker has not blown/tripped. If the powercord is damaged it must be replaced by a special cord set available from Dualit or an authorised Dualit service agent. This part should only be refitted by a competent electrician. If it still does not work, telephone the Dualit Customer Helpline on: + 44 (0) 1293 652 500 or contact the shop where you bought it.
