How to activate bridge mode on the Adtran SDG-8614 router?
Frequently Asked Questions - 03/04/2026
Response Notice-Facile

The Adtran SDG-8614 router can operate in Access Point mode, which replaces the traditional bridge mode. This device uses the Intellifi® interface and offers two main methods to perform this configuration.

Method 1: Configuration via Intellifi QR Code (recommended)

  • Locate the Intellifi QuickStart label on the back of the SDG-8614 router
  • Scan the QR code with your mobile device
  • Follow the guided online instructions to choose your administrator password
  • At the step "Select your device mode", choose Access Point instead of Router
  • Configure the Wi-Fi SSID and password as needed
  • Wait for the router to automatically restart (about 10 seconds) to apply the changes

Method 2: Configuration via the web interface

  • Connect your computer to the SDG-8614 via an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports (Gigabit ports or the 2.5 Gigabit port)
  • Open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.1
  • If this is your first configuration, accept the option "Set up a new Intellifi® device"
  • Enter an administrator password (at least 8 characters) and confirm it
  • On the next page, select Access Point as the operating mode instead of Router
  • Enter the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and Wi-Fi password, then validate
  • Finalize the configuration by accepting the settings. The device will restart to apply the changes

Operation in Access Point mode

Once in Access Point mode, the SDG-8614 stops functioning as a router: it no longer manages the main internet connection or network routing. Instead, connect the WAN port of the Adtran router to the main router of your network via an Ethernet cable. The SDG-8614 will then emit a Wi-Fi 6 signal (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) that extends that of the main router, while being controlled by it for essential network functions.

To return to router mode later, log back into http://192.168.1.1, go to network settings, and select Router as the operating mode.

How to activate and configure the IP Passthrough function on the Adtran SDG-8614 router?
Frequently Asked Questions - 27/03/2026
Response Notice-Facile

The IP Passthrough function on the Adtran SDG-8614 router allows the public IP address to be directly passed to a connected device, bypassing the router's NAT. This makes the designated device directly accessible from the Internet, useful when another router or equipment needs to manage the WAN connection itself.

To activate IP Passthrough on your Adtran SDG-8614, start by accessing the administration interface. Log in via a web browser by entering 192.168.1.1 or router.local in the address bar. Authenticate with your administrator credentials (default password set during initial configuration).

Once connected to the router's Intellifi interface, locate the network settings. Look for the WAN Settings or WAN Configuration section, which contains options for managing the Internet connection. It is in these menus that you will find the IP Passthrough or Bridge Mode option, depending on the version of the installed firmware.

To configure IP Passthrough, proceed as follows: first, enable the IP Passthrough option via the corresponding switch. Then, select the target device by specifying its MAC address or the LAN port it is connected to. The Adtran SDG-8614 has a 2.5 Gigabit WAN port, four Gigabit LAN ports, and a 2.5 Gigabit LAN port, so choose the appropriate port according to your setup.

After configuring the settings, click on Apply or Save to validate the changes. The router will apply the changes, and it is highly recommended to restart the router for IP Passthrough to function correctly. You can perform a restart from the Administration menu or by pressing the Reset button on the back of the unit for less than 5 seconds.

Once the router has restarted, check that the configured device has received the public IP address. On this device, verify your assigned IP address by accessing web IP checking services. If you want to access this device remotely, also test connectivity from outside your network to confirm that port forwarding and external accessibility are working as expected.

Important: when IP Passthrough is active, the designated device receives the entire public IP address and is directly exposed to the Internet. Ensure that this device has a robust firewall and appropriate security configurations. Consult the manufacturer's documentation or contact Adtran support if you encounter difficulties during configuration or if IP Passthrough does not appear in your interface.
