ENG MAINTENANCE USEFUL TIPS IMPORTANT: IMPORTANT: In all cases of use, never grease your appliance before preheating. Instead, grease it just before pouring the batter or any other preparation.
- Always switch off, unplug and let the appliance cool down completely before cleaning.
- Never submerse the appliance in water.
- Never use any stripping products such as oven cleaner.
- Covers and base: clean with a damp sponge, you may use a mild detergent if necessary.
- Non-stick cooking plates: in general, after soaking for a few minutes, use a soft sponge soaked in a mild detergent, then rinse with warm water. Dry thoroughly before replacing the plates on the appliance.
- Heating element holder and thermostat: once your plates removed, you may also clean these two elements with a damp sponge.
- Important: never clean the cooking plates in a dishwasher.
- Heat up your appliance until the red light switches off.
- Although your appliance’s cooking plates include a non-stick coating, we recommend greasing them lightly.
- Open your appliance, grease both plates using a silicone brush, paper towel or piece of cotton (dip your brush into a small cup of cooking oil to cover it well). Grease again only lightly before cooking the next waffle After that, grease again only if the waffles start to stick on opening the lid.
- Pour the batter onto only one plate taking care to cover all squares completely. Use the ladle that came with the device. This will enable you to make 4 large Brussels waffles with only 2 ladles of batter.
- Close the appliance, wait 5 seconds, and rotate the head.
- After 1 minute and 30 seconds more, rotate the head back to its starting position.
WARNING: The rotation process is important for making the best
waffles. . If you do not do this, your waffles will look less appetizing (squares on top tray not filled in completely, making the surface irregular) Even with rotation, this may happen also if you do not use enough batter. However, be careful as hot steam may be released when turning over the appliance. We advise you to wear an oven mitt when rotating.
Similarly, when the waffles are cooking, the waffle iron may open up during cooking due to a release of steam. This is perfectly normal and will have no impact on your waffles’ cooking.
- When the red light switches off, you can open your appliance.
WARNING: Cooking waffles is a subtle art in which any minute
change in proportions or temperature for the batter may lead to differences in aspect and taste. In no case may any discrepancy with your preferred taste be considered as a fault of the appliance. The appliance was designed in accordance with the Lagrange waffle recipe.
- Pick up your waffles using a sharp knife to stab the thick part of the waffle and apply slight pressure to lift it off. You can also remove your waffles with a waffle fork (supplied with your product depending on the reference).
- If used intensively, feel free to let your waffle iron rest between two batches. Wait for an hour and start cooking your next batch of waffles.
- Allow to cool, remove the plates and soak for 5 minutes, brush the plates with a nylon or other plastic dish brush. Wipe and dry the plates thoroughly, insert them again, plug the appliance back in and follow the cooking instructions carefully from the start.
- Apply grease repeatedly if cooking many waffles. If you follow these instructions perfectly, we guarantee a good result. Finally, please note that if you do not fill in the 4 waffle imprints at the same time, your cooking may become irregular.
- Heat up your appliance until the red light switches off.
- Grease the plates just before pouring the batter.
- Spread a tablespoon (or 4 teaspoons if 4 moulds) of thick batter onto the bottom mould.
- Close the appliance and squeeze the handles together for a few seconds to spread the batter evenly. Position the closure clip and lock the appliance with it. N.B. This clip may be left attached to the appliance. Position it at the centre of your handles. Troubleshooting
- Waffle top and bottom coming apart: removing too quickly from mould or not cooked enough. Waffles breaking apart: batter too watery or too dry (not enough fat).
- Waffles burning: cooking too long or forgetting about waffles!
- Waffles burnt on one side, uncooked on the other: filled improperly or batter too watery or appliance not rotated.
- Waffles sticking to moulds: plates greased incorrectly or plates too hot for first waffles or too much sugar or not enough fat in the batter. The non-stick coating may also be damaged.
COOKING WAFERS What to do in the event of problems
- Do not turn the appliance over as for waffles. In all cases:
- Unplug the appliance.
- When cooking wafers, ignore the indicator light as it is not calibrated for wafers. The light was calibrated for a waffle batter. Depending on the recipes used, the cooking time may not be quite the same. In this case, check whether your wafers are cooked enough by opening the appliance. If your wafers are cooked, remove them from the appliance and proceed with the next batch without taking notice of the green light.
- If your wafer appears to be stuck to both plates, do not open the lid any further; if you hold it in its current position for a few moments, the wafer should come away from the top plate under its own weight. If not, introduce a spatula and carefully tease it away from the plate.
- Wafers are soft at first, but will harden very quickly. If you want to roll it up, use a dowel stick directly on the cooking plate. To roll up the wafers, place the dowel on a wafer, lift up one edge of the wafer, roll it up quickly and then remove the dowel.
- You may roll them into cones and either eat as is or fill with ice cream, or fold them into triangles, halves or quarters.
- We remind you that, unlike waffles, wafers are served when fully cooled down. They can be stored for several days in a biscuit tin.
