Frequently Asked Questions - DVD-E137B SAMSUNG

How to connect the DVD player to the TV?
Use a composite video cable (RCA), S-Video, or a SCART cable depending on your TV's inputs. Make sure the device is off when connecting. Then select the appropriate video source on your TV (AV, Video, etc.).
What to do if the player does not read a disc?
Check that the disc is inserted with the label facing up, that it is compatible (DVD, VCD, Audio CD) and that it is not scratched or dirty. Make sure the disc's region code matches the player's (region 2). Clean the disc with a soft cloth from the center to the edges.
How to change subtitle language during playback?
Press the SUBTITLE button on the remote. Use the left/right arrow keys to select the desired language. To turn off subtitles, choose the 'Off' or 'No' option in the menu.
How to use the repeat function (loop playback)?
During playback, press the REPEAT button on the remote. You can repeat the chapter, title, or a section (A-B). To set an A-B point, press REPEAT A-B at the start of the section, then again at the end. To cancel, press CLEAR.
What does the Ⓞ icon on the screen mean?
The Ⓞ icon indicates that the requested action is not possible. This may be due to a disc limitation (e.g., no multi-angle), an option unavailable at that moment, or an invalid title/chapter request. Consult the manual for details.
How to reset a forgotten parental password?
Turn on the device without a disc. On the front panel, press and hold the STOP and PLAY buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. The language selection menu appears. Choose your language, then press MENU and select 'Parental'. You can then create a new password.
Can I play MP3 or WMA files on this player?
Yes, the player reads CD-Rs containing MP3/WMA files in ISO 9660 or Joliet format. File names must be a maximum of 8 characters with .mp3 or .wma extension. The recommended bitrate is at least 128 kbps for MP3 and 64 kbps for WMA.
How to adjust the screen format (4:3 or 16:9)?
In stop mode, press MENU, select 'Setup' then 'Display Options'. Choose 'Screen Format' and select '4:3 Letter Box' (black bars), '4:3 Pan Scan' (cropping), or '16:9 Wide' depending on your TV.
The remote does not work, what to do?
Check the batteries (type AA) and their polarity. Replace them if necessary. Ensure no objects are blocking the remote sensor on the player. Use it within 6 meters of the player. If the problem persists, remove the batteries and hold a key for a few seconds to reset.
How to clean the player and discs?

Ensure that the mains supply in your house complies with that indicated on the identification sticker located at the back of your play. Install your player horizontally, on a suitable base (furniture), with enough space around it for ventilation (7~10cm). Make sure the ventilation slots are not covered. Do not stack other, or heavy devices on top of the player. Do not place the player on amplifiers or other equipment which may become hot. Before moving the player ensure the disc tray is empty. This player is designed for continuous use.

Switching off the DVD player to the stand-by mode does not disconnect the electricity supply In order to separate the player completely from the mains, it has to be disconnected by unplugging the main plug, especially when left unused for a long period of time.

Always place the disc properly into the tray using the proper guide area. Never use record cleaning sprays, benzine, static electricity liquids or any other solvent, if the disc surface is dirty. CD-R MP3/WMA discs

When playing CD-R/MP3 or WMA discs, please follow all the recommendations for CD-R above, plus the comments below:

  • Your MP3 or WMA files should be ISO 9660 or JOLIET format.
ISO 9660 format and Joliet MP3 or WMA files are compatible with Microsoft's DOS and Windows, and with Apple's Mac. These two formats are the most widely used.
  • When naming your MP3 or WMA files do not exceed 8 characters, and place ".mp3, .wma" as the file extension.
General name format of: Title.mp3. or Title.wma. When composing your title, make sure that you use 8 characters or less, have no spaces in the name, and avoid the use of special characters including: (.,/, ,=, +) .
  • Use a decompression transfer rate of at least 128 Kbps when recording MP3 files.
Sound quality with MP3 files basically depends on the rate of compression/decompression you choose. Getting audio CD quality sound requires an analog/digital sampling rate, that is conversion to MP3 format, of at least 128 Kbps and up to 160 Kbps. However, choosing higher rates, like 192 Kbps or more, only rarely give better sound quality.
Conversely, files with decompression rates below 128 Kbps will not be played properly.
  • Use a decompression transfer rate of at least 64Kbps when recording WMA files.
Sound quality with WMA files basically depends on the rate of compression/decompression you choose. Getting audio CD quality sound requires an analog/digital sampling rate, that is conversion to WMA format, of at least 64Kbps and up to 192Kbps.
Conversely, files with decompression rates below 64Kbps or over 192Kbps will not be played properly.
  • Do not try recording copyright protected MP3 files.
Certain "securized" files are encrypted and code protected to prevent illegal copying. These files are of the following types: Windows Media™ (registered trade mark of Microsoft Inc) and SDMI™ (registered trade mark of The SDMI Foundation). You cannot copy such files.
  • Important: The above recommendations cannot be taken as a guarantee that the DVD player will play MP3 recordings, or as an assurance of sound quality.
You should note that certain technologies and methods for MP3 file recording on CD-Rs prevent optimal playback of these files on your DVD player (degraded sound quality and in some cases, inability of the player to read the files).
  • This unit can play a maximum of 500 files and 300 folders per disc.
