Frequently Asked Questions - TR4551 CANON

How do I connect the printer to my Wi-Fi network?
Use the Easy Wireless Connect method. Press the Setup button, select Wi-Fi Setup, then Easy Wireless Connect. Follow the instructions on your smartphone or tablet. You can also use IJ Network Device Setup Utility on Windows. Make sure the wireless router is on and that WPA/WPA2 mode is active.
How do I replace a FINE cartridge?
Open the front panel and the paper output cover. Wait for the cartridge holder to move to the center. Remove the used cartridge by pushing it down, then install the new one by pushing it until it clicks. Close the cover. Follow the on-screen instructions for registration.
What to do in case of a paper jam?
Turn the printer off and unplug it. Open the paper output cover and gently remove the jammed paper. If the paper is inside, open the drive unit cover (in vertical position). Remove any pieces. Plug back in and turn on. Check the error code if displayed.
How do I scan a document from a computer?
Use IJ Scan Utility. Place the original on the platen glass or in the ADF. Launch IJ Scan Utility, select the scan type (auto, document, photo). Choose the destination folder and click Scan. You can also scan from the printer's control panel.
How do I send a fax?
Place the document face up in the automatic document feeder. Press the FAX button. Dial the number using the numeric keypad. Press Black or Color. To send from a computer, use the Canon fax driver.
How do I print from a smartphone?
Download the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app. Connect your smartphone to the same Wi-Fi network as the printer. Open the app, select Photo Print, choose a photo, configure settings (number of copies, size), then print. You can also use AirPrint (iOS) or Google Cloud Print.
How do I clean the print head?
If printing is faint or streaked, clean the head. From the control panel, go to Settings > Maintenance > Head Cleaning. You can also do it from the printer driver (Maintenance tab). Afterwards, print a nozzle check pattern to confirm.
Why isn't the printer detecting the network?
Check that the wireless router is on and the printer is within range. Make sure the printer's Wi-Fi is enabled (button Setup > Network Settings). Reset the network settings if necessary. Use IJ Network Device Setup Utility to diagnose and repair.
How do I copy a document on both sides?
This printer does not support automatic duplex copying. To copy multiple pages, use the automatic document feeder (ADF) for one-side originals, then manually flip the paper and copy the other side. You can also set manual duplex copying in the copy options.
How do I set up borderless printing?
In the printer driver, under the Main tab, check Borderless Printing. Select a paper size that supports this option (e.g., 10x15cm or A4). Use suitable photo paper. The image will be printed to the edges without margins.

Can I print on DL envelopes with the CANON TR4551?
Frequently Asked Questions - 20/05/2026
Response Notice-Facile

Yes, the Canon TR4551 supports printing on DL envelopes (size 110 × 220 mm). This is one of the compatible envelope formats with this device, alongside commercial envelopes (Com 10) and other special formats.

Preparing the envelopes: Before printing, the envelopes must be perfectly flat. Press firmly on all four corners and edges to flatten them. If an envelope is curled, hold it by the opposite corners and gently bend it in the opposite direction. The curvature should not exceed 3 mm (0.12 inches), otherwise paper jams may occur. Also flatten the flap if necessary using a pen to accentuate the fold along the first insertion edge.

Loading into the printer: Open the front panel and remove the tray. Use the paper guides to clear the space, then load the envelopes in the center of the tray with the printed side facing down. Fold the flap and load each envelope in portrait orientation, with the address side down. You can load up to 5 envelopes at a time. Place them all the way to the back of the tray, without exceeding the loading limit mark. Slide the paper guides to align with the envelopes without pressing too hard, then reinsert the tray until the arrow aligns with the edge of the printer.

Setting up on the control panel: After insertion, the paper information registration screen appears. Press OK, select the size "DL Envelope" using the navigation buttons, then confirm. Set the media type to "Envelope" and follow the on-screen instructions to save the paper settings.

Computer printing settings: In your application software or printer driver, select "DL Envelope" or "DL 110 × 220 mm" in the paper size options. Ensure that the media type is set to "Envelope." The weight of the envelopes should be between 75 and 105 g/m² (20 to 28 pounds). Printing from the control panel is not supported for envelopes.

Envelopes to avoid: Do not use the following envelopes, as they may cause paper jams or malfunction: embossed or treated surface envelopes, double flap envelopes, envelopes with already moist and ready-to-stick gummed flaps, or curled envelopes. These features may block feeding or damage the printing mechanism.

The Canon TR4551 offers a print resolution of up to 4,800 × 1,200 dpi, ensuring excellent print quality on DL envelopes, even for detailed addresses or professional logos.

What does the code 1871 mean on my CANON TR4551?
Frequently Asked Questions - 20/05/2026
Response Notice-Facile

The code 1871 indicates a paper feed issue on your Canon TR4551. This error typically occurs when the feed sensor or mechanism cannot properly detect or feed the paper from the tray.

Main causes:

  • The tray (feed tray) is not properly clicked in or positioned incorrectly in the printer
  • The paper is missing or the tray is empty
  • Poor alignment or incorrect positioning of the paper in the tray (curled, wrinkled, or misaligned paper)
  • Debris, dust, or foreign objects in the feed path or sensor
  • Dirty or worn feed roller
  • Moist, too thin, or incompatible paper with the printer

How to resolve the issue:

  • Step 1: Turn off the printer, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on to reset the sensor
  • Step 2: Completely remove the paper tray and gently clean the inside of the printer with a dry cloth to remove dust and debris
  • Step 3: Ensure you are using compatible paper: the TR4551 model accepts standard A4, A5, B5 paper, and envelopes. The paper must be dry and in good condition
  • Step 4: Reload the tray with new paper, ensuring it is properly aligned with the guides and does not exceed the capacity (maximum 100 ordinary sheets)
  • Step 5: Reinsert the tray by pushing it firmly back until you hear the locking click
  • Step 6: Start a test print from the printer menu

If the error persists after these checks, clean the feed rollers with a slightly damp cloth. If the problem continues, it is possible that a sensor is defective or the feed mechanism is damaged. Contact a Canon service center for diagnosis and repair.

1. Definitions.

"License" shall mean the terms and conditions for use, reproduction, and distribution as defined by Sections 1 through 9 of this document.

"Licensor" shall mean the copyright owner or entity authorized by the copyright owner that is granting the License.

"Legal Entity" shall mean the union of the acting entity and all other entities that control, are controlled by, or are under common control with that entity. For the purposes of this definition, "control" means (i) the power, direct or indirect, to cause the direction or management of such entity, whether by contract or otherwise, or (ii) ownership of fifty percent (50%) or more of the outstanding shares, or (iii) beneficial ownership of such entity.

"You" (or "Your") shall mean an individual or Legal Entity exercising permissions granted by this License.

"Source" form shall mean the preferred form for making modifications, including but not limited to software source code, documentation source, and configuration files.

"Object" form shall mean any form resulting from mechanical transformation or translation of a Source form, including but not limited to compiled object code, generated documentation, and conversions to other media types.

"Work" shall mean the work of authorship, whether in Source or Object form, made available under the License, as indicated by a copyright notice that is included in or attached to the work (an example is provided in the Appendix below).

"Derivative Works" shall mean any work, whether in Source or Object form, that is based on (or derived from) the Work and for which the editorial revisions, annotations, elaborations, or other modifications represent, as a whole, an original work of authorship. For the purposes of this License, Derivative Works shall not include works that remain separable from, or merely link (or bind by name) to the interfaces of, the Work and Derivative Works thereof.

"Contribution" shall mean any work of authorship, including the original version of the Work and any modifications or additions to that Work or Derivative Works thereof, that is intentionally submitted to Licensor for inclusion in the Work by the copyright owner or by an individual or Legal Entity authorized to submit on behalf of the copyright owner. For the purposes of this definition, "submitted" means any form of electronic, verbal, or written communication sent to the Licensor or its representatives, including but not limited to communication on electronic mailing lists, source code control systems, and issue tracking systems that are managed by, or on behalf of, the Licensor for the purpose of discussing and improving the Work, but excluding communication that is conspicuously marked or otherwise designated in writing by the copyright owner as "Not a Contribution."

"Contributor" shall mean Licensee and any individual or Legal Entity on behalf of whom a Contribution has been received by Licensee and subsequently incorporated within the Work.

  1. Grant of Copyright License. 2. Grant of Patent License. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, each Contributor hereby grants to You a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable (except as stated in this section) patent license to make, have made, use, offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer the Work, where such license applies only to those patent claims licensable by such Contributor that are necessarily infringed by their Contribution(s) alone or by combination of their Contribution(s) with the Work to which such Contribution(s) was submitted. If You institute patent litigation against any entity (including a cross-claim or counterclaim in a lawsuit) alleging that the Work or a Contribution incorporated within the Work constitutes direct or contributory patent infringement, then any patent licenses granted to You under this License for that Work shall terminate as of the date such litigation is filed.

  3. Redistribution. You may reproduce and distribute copies of the Work or Derivative Works thereof in any medium, with or without modifications, and in Source or Object form, provided that You meet the following conditions:

  4. You must give any other recipients of the Work or Derivative Works a copy of this License; and

  5. You must cause any modified files to carry prominent notices stating that You changed the files; and
  6. You must retain, in the Source form of any Derivative Works that You distribute, all copyright, patent, trademark, and attribution notices from the Source form of the Work, excluding those notices that do not pertain to any part of the Derivative Works; and
  7. If the Work includes a "NOTICE" text file as part of its distribution, then any Derivative Works that You distribute must include a readable copy of the attribution notices contained within such NOTICE file, excluding those notices that do not pertain to any part of the Derivative Works, in at least one of the following places: within a NOTICE text file distributed as part of the Derivative Works; within the Source form or documentation, if provided along with the Derivative Works; or, within a display generated by the Derivative Works, if and wherever such third-party notices normally appear. The contents of the NOTICE file are for informational purposes only and do not modify the License. You may add Your own attribution notices within Derivative Works that You distribute, alongside or as an addendum to the NOTICE text from the Work, provided that such additional attribution notices cannot be construed as modifying the License.

You may add Your own copyright statement to Your modifications and may provide additional or different license terms and conditions for use, reproduction, or distribution of Your modifications, or for any such Derivative Works as a whole, provided Your use, reproduction, and distribution of the Work otherwise complies with the conditions stated in this License.

  1. Submission of Contributions. Unless You explicitly state otherwise, any Contribution intentionally submitted for inclusion in the Work by You to the Licensor shall be under the terms and conditions of this License, without any additional terms or conditions. Notwithstanding the above, nothing herein shall supersede or modify the terms of any separate license agreement you may have executed with Licensor regarding such Contributions.
  2. Trademarks. This License does not grant permission to use the trade names, trademarks, service marks, or product names of the Licensor, except as required for reasonable and customary use in describing the origin of the Work and reproducing the content of the NOTICE file.

  3. Disclaimer of Warranty. Unless required by applicable law or agreed to in writing, Licensee provides the Work (and each Contributor provides its Contributions) on an "AS IS" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTY OR CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, either express or implied, including, without limitation, any warranties or conditions of TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, MERCHANTABILITY, or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. You are solely responsible for determining the appropriateness of using or redistributing the Work and assume any risks associated with Your exercise of permissions under this License.

  4. Limitation of Liability. In no event and under no legal theory, whether in tort (including negligence), contract, or otherwise, unless required by applicable law (such as deliberate and grossly negligent acts) or agreed to in writing, shall any Contributor be liable to You for damages, including any direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages of any character arising as a result of this License or out of the use or inability to use the Work (including but not limited to damages for loss of goodwill, work stoppage, computer failure or malfunction, or any and all other commercial damages or losses), even if such Contributor has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
  5. Accepting Warranty or Additional Liability. While redistributing the Work or Derivative Works thereof, You may choose to offer, and charge a fee for, acceptance of support, warranty, indemnity, or other liability obligations and/or rights consistent with this License. However, in accepting such obligations, You may act only on Your own behalf and on Your sole responsibility, not on behalf of any other Contributor, and only if You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold each Contributor harmless for any liability incurred by, or claims asserted against, such Contributor by reason of your accepting any such warranty or additional liability.

The FreeType Project LICENSE

2006-Jan-27

Copyright 1996-2002, 2006 by

David Turner, Robert Wilhelm, and Werner Lemberg

Introduction

The FreeType Project is distributed in several archive packages; some of them may contain, in addition to the FreeType font engine, various tools and contributions which rely on, or relate to, the FreeType Project.

This license applies to all files found in such packages, and which do not fall under their own explicit license. The license affects thus the FreeType font engine, the test programs, documentation and makefiles, at the very least.

This license was inspired by the BSD, Artistic, and IJG (Independent JPEG Group) licenses, which all encourage inclusion and use of free software in commercial and freeware products alike. As a consequence, its main points are that:

o We don't promise that this software works. However, we will be interested in any kind of bug reports. ('as is' distribution)
o You can use this software for whatever you want, in parts or full form, without having to pay us. ('royalty-free' usage)
o You may not pretend that you wrote this software. If you use it, or only parts of it, in a program, you must acknowledge somewhere in your documentation that you have used the FreeType code. ('credits')

We specifically permit and encourage the inclusion of this software, with or without modifications, in commercial products.

We disclaim all warranties covering The FreeType Project and assume no liability related to The FreeType Project.

Finally, many people asked us for a preferred form for a credit/disclaimer to use in compliance with this license. We thus encourage you to use the following text:

1

Portions of this software are copyright © The FreeType

Project (www.freetype.org). All rights reserved.

Please replace with the value from the FreeType version you actually use.

Legal Terms

  1. Definitions

Throughout this license, the terms package',FreeType Project', and FreeType archive' refer to the set of files originally distributed by the authors (David Turner, Robert Wilhelm, and Werner Lemberg) as theFreeType Project', be they named as alpha, beta or final release.

You' refers to the licensee, or person using the project, whereusing' is a generic term including compiling the project's source code as well as linking it to form a program' orexecutable'

This program is referred to as 'a program using the FreeType engine'.

This license applies to all files distributed in the original FreeType Project, including all source code, binaries and documentation, unless otherwise stated in the file in its original, unmodified form as distributed in the original archive.

If you are unsure whether or not a particular file is covered by this license, you must contact us to verify this.

The FreeType Project is copyright (C) 1996-2000 by David Turner, Robert Wilhelm, and Werner Lemberg. All rights reserved except as specified below.

1. No Warranty

THE FREETYPE PROJECT IS PROVIDED 'AS IS' WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, WARRANTYES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. IN NO EVENT WILL ANY OF THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES CAUSED BY THE USE OR THE INABILITY TO USE, OF THE FREETYPE PROJECT.

2. Redistribution

This license grants a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable right and license to use, execute, perform, compile, display, copy, create derivative works of, distribute and sublicense the FreeType Project (in both source and object code forms) and derivative works thereof for any purpose; and to authorize others to exercise some or all of the rights granted herein, subject to the following conditions:

o Redistribution of source code must retain this license file ('FTL.TXT') unaltered; any additions, deletions or changes to the original files must be clearly indicated in accompanying documentation. The copyright notices of the unaltered, original files must be preserved in all copies of source files.

o Redistribution in binary form must provide a disclaimer that states that the software is based in part of the work of the FreeType Team, in the distribution documentation. We also encourage you to put an URL to the FreeType web page in your documentation, though this isn't mandatory.

These conditions apply to any software derived from or based on the FreeType Project, not just the unmodified files. If you use our work, you must acknowledge us. However, no fee need be paid to us.

3. Advertising

Neither the FreeType authors and contributors nor you shall use the name of the other for commercial, advertising, or promotional purposes without specific prior written permission.

We suggest, but do not require, that you use one or more of the following phrases to refer to this software in your documentation or advertising materials: FreeType Project',FreeType Engine', FreeType library', orFreeType Distribution'.

As you have not signed this license, you are not required to accept it. However, as the FreeType Project is copyrighted material, only this license, or another one contracted with the authors, grants you the right to use, distribute, and modify it.

Therefore, by using, distributing, or modifying the FreeType Project, you indicate that you understand and accept all the terms of this license.

4. Contacts

There are two mailing lists related to FreeType:

o freetype@nongnu.org

Discusses general use and applications of FreeType, as well as future and wanted additions to the library and distribution.

If you are looking for support, start in this list if you haven't found anything to help you in the documentation.

o freetype-devel@nongnu.org

Discusses bugs, as well as engine internals, design issues, specific licenses, porting, etc.

Model Number: K10483 (Contains FCC Approved WLAN Module K30365)

This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.

Note: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications.

However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the

equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures:

  • Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
  • Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
  • Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
  • Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

Use of a shielded cable is required to comply with Class B limits in Subpart B of Part 15 of the FCC Rules.

Do not make any changes or modifications to the equipment unless otherwise specified in the manual. If such changes or modifications should be made, you could be required to stop operation of the equipment.

Pre-Installation Requirements

Order Information

When ordering service from the telephone company for this equipment, the following may be required.

Universal Service Order Code (USOC): RJ11C

The Facility Interface Code (FIC): 02LS2

Service Order Code (SOC): 9.0F

Connection of the Equipment

This equipment complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules and the requirements adopted by the ACTA.

A label on this equipment contains, among other information, a product identifier in the format US:AAAEQ##TXXXX. If requested, this number must be provided to the telephone company.

The REN is used to determine the number of devices that may be connected to a telephone line.

Excessive RENs on a telephone line may result in the devices not ringing in response to an incoming call. In most but not all areas, the sum of RENs should not exceed five (5.0). To be certain of the number of devices that may be connected to a line, as determined by the total RENs, contact the local telephone company. The REN for this product is part of the product identifier that has the format

US:AAAEQ##TXXXX. The digits represented by ## are the REN without a decimal point (e.g., 03 is a REN of 0.3).

A plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premises wiring and telephone network must comply with the applicable FCC Part 68 rules and requirements adopted by the ACTA. A compliant telephone cord and modular plug is provided with this product. It is designed to be connected to a compatible modular jack that is also compliant. See installation instructions for details.

Connection to party lines is subjected to state tariffs. Contact the state public utility commission, public service commission or corporation commission for information.

If your home has specially wired alarm equipment connected to the telephone line, ensure the installation of this equipment does not disable your alarm equipment. If you have questions about what will disable alarm equipment, consult your telephone company or a qualified installer.

In Case of Equipment Malfunction

Should any malfunction occur which cannot be corrected by the procedures described in the Online Manual, disconnect the equipment from the telephone line cable, turn off the power and disconnect the power cord. The telephone line cable should not be reconnected or the main power switch turned ON until the problem is completely resolved. Users should contact their local authorized Canon Facsimile Service Dealer for the servicing of equipment.

Information regarding Authorized Service Facility locations can be obtained by calling the Canon Customer Center.

Rights of the Telephone Company

If this equipment causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company may temporarily disconnect service. The telephone company also retains the right to make changes in facilities and services that may affect the operation of this equipment. When such changes are necessary, the telephone company is required to give adequate prior notice to the user. However, if advance notice is not possible, the telephone company will notify the customer as soon as possible. Also, the customer will be advised of his/her right to file a compliant with the FCC if he/she believes it is necessary.
