When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following :

  1. Read all instructions.
  2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  3. To protect against electrical shock do not immerse cord, plugs or appliance in water or other liquid.
  4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  5. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts.
  6. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Return the appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.
  7. The use of accessory attachments is not recommended by the appliance manufacturer as it may cause injuries.
  8. Do not use outdoors.
  9. Do not let the cord hang over the edge of the table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
  10. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  11. Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids.
  12. Always attach plug to appliance first (for models with removable cord), then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "off" (for selected models with On/Off switch or adjustable thermostat), then remove the plug from wall outlet.
  13. Do not use appliance for other than its intended use.
  14. This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.

Installation

  1. Remove any packaging, stickers or accessories inside and outside of the appliance.
  2. Place the appliance on the middle of the table, out of the reach of children.

Place the appliance on a firm, sturdy table: do not use the appliance on a soft or unsteady base.

T-FAL PIERRADE - Installation - 1

Never place the appliance on an unsteady or fragile surface (glass table, table cloths, varnished furniture...).

  1. Place the grilling-stone onto heating element, polished side (large chamfer side) facing upwards.

Never place the stone onto the warm heating element.

T-FAL PIERRADE - Installation - 2

Only use the stone that comes with the appliance or purchased at a certified service centre. This stone is intended only for use with this appliance.

Never place aluminum paper or any other part under the stone, or between heating element and reflector.

Connection and pre-heating

Unwind the cord completely.

Check that your electric installation is compatible with the power and the voltage indicated under the appliance.

Connect the appliance to a plug with an earth connection.

Models with fixed cord : if the power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent or a similarly qualified person in order to avoid a hazard.

Connect the cord on the appliance (depending on model) then plug into the wall socket.

Be cautious how you place the cord, so that it does not get in the way of guests moving around the table.

T-FAL PIERRADE - Connection and pre-heating - 1

Never plug the appliance in when not in use.

Do not leave the appliance switched on while unattended.

  • Models with on/off switch :

Put the switch to on : the indicator will light up.

  • Models with thermostat :

Set the thermostat to the max position.

  • Other models :

The appliance works once plugged into the wall socket.

Allow appliance to pre-heat for 20 to 30 minutes maximum.

On the first ten uses, pour a small amount of corn oil onto the stone and wipe off with a paper towel. This seasoning will minimize food sticking to the stone.

Cooking

After pre-heating, the appliance is ready for use :

T-FAL PIERRADE - Cooking - 1

Have each guest place slices of meat, fish, vegetables or fruit onto the stone and have them cook food to their desired taste.

Never place frozen or heavy food on the warm stone.

Never place the stone in contact with acidic foods such as vinegar products, mustard, pickled gerkins, pickles...

Do not place objects (other than food) on the stone.

Do not leave the empty appliance switched on for more than 30 minutes; the stone will be too hot for proper food preparation.

Any small cracks or fissures are due to the stone expansion and are natural and will not affect the function of the appliance. They are not defects.

After a few uses, the stone will permanently turn a darker, deeper colour.

During first use, the appliance may give off a slight odour and smoke.

Do not touch the hot surfaces of the appliance.

Use about 200g of food per person : using only use fresh products.

Trim fat from meat. Debone fish. Cut the shellfish in half.

Cut meat, fish, vegetables or fruits in slices of about 1/2 cm thick and 5 to 6 cm long : cooking of usual pieces is not an optimum way of use of the appliance.

If preparing different types of foods (fish, shellfish, meat and fruits), it is recommended the stone be cleaned between each kind of food (for ex.: meat and fruits) in order to fully appreciate the taste and flavour. To clean, use the scraper packaged with the appliance (depending on model) or a plastic spatula. Wipe the stone to remove any food particles remaining.

Do not clean the stone with water, as this may cause thermal shock which will break it.

Set the thermostat (depending on model) to your chosen position. Due to the denseness of the stone, it will take approximately 5 to 10 minutes to reach a new temperature setting during the use of the appliance.

Stop the appliance before the end of the meal; the denseness of the stone will hold the temperature for at least ten minutes, and will continue to cook the food.

After use

  • Models with on/off switch :

Put the switch to off : the indicator light will turn off.

  • Models with thermostat :

Set the thermostat to the off position.

Unplug the cord from the wall socket. Then, depending on model, remove the cord from the appliance. Leave the appliance to cool.

Allow appliance to cool for at least 1 hour, without touching the stone.

During this cooling period, keep the appliance away from reach of children.

Depending on the model, you may be able to lift the heating element to make cleaning easy.

Clean the base of the appliance and the reflector with a sponge and hot soapy water.

Do not use scouring pads or hard abrasive powder.

Never immerse the appliance and the cord in water.

Precautions before cleaning the stone :

Each stone is a natural unique element. It can be more or less permeable depending on how porous the stone is. A stone immersed in water during cleaning may crack or break the next time it is heated on the appliance.

Clean the stone by scouring it under a running water and wiping dry.

Avoid detergents.
