How to install the Sweex SC012 sound card?

Turn off and unplug the PC, remove the case, touch a metal surface to discharge yourself, insert the card into a free PCI slot, replace the case and reconnect. Turn on the PC and install the drivers from the provided CD.

Which operating systems are compatible?

Windows is supported. Drivers are provided for Windows. For other OS, check compatibility on the Sweex website.

How to set up 5.1 sound?

After installing the drivers, open the Sweex mixer in the taskbar and select the number of speakers (5.1). Connect the front, rear, center/subwoofer speakers to the corresponding outputs.

What to do if no sound comes out?

Check that the speakers are connected to the correct outputs and powered on. Make sure the volume is not muted in Windows and in the Sweex mixer. Reinstall the drivers if necessary.

How to connect a microphone or external source?

Connect the microphone to the MIC IN input (pink) and an external source (MP3 player, etc.) to LINE IN (blue). Use the mixer to adjust the levels.

Can I use the SPDIF output?

Yes, the card has a coaxial and optical SPDIF output. Connect a SPDIF cable to a compatible amplifier or soundbar. The digital output transmits the audio signal without loss.

Are there conflicts with other devices?

There may be conflicts with other PCI cards. Try changing the PCI slot or disabling the onboard sound card in the BIOS. Update the drivers to avoid issues.

How to update the drivers?

Download the latest drivers from the Sweex website. Run the installation file and follow the instructions. Restart the PC after installation.

What is the warranty period?

The warranty is 3 years from the date of purchase. Keep the receipt. The warranty covers material defects, but not damage due to misuse.

How to maintain the sound card?

Turn off the PC before any cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to dust the card. Avoid liquid or abrasive products. Do not touch the gold contacts.

Installation of hardware

Take the following precautionary measures prior to installing the hardware:

1. Ensure the PC is switched off and disconnected from the mains.
2. Also, disconnect the printer and monitor cables (they have their own power supplies) to make absolutely sure the PC is not live.
3. Now unscrew the computer casing.
4. Subsequently, remove any static electricity you may carry on your body. Do this by touching a (neutral) pipe of the central heating system or an unpainted water pipe, among other things. Please note that you must not use a magnetic screwdriver for this. Before you proceed any further, briefly touch the iron frame of the PC casing. Make sure that you minimise contact with any contact points of the PC, PC Card or the memory.
5. Find a vacant PCI slot and remove the metal guard plate part of the computer casing in front of the relevant slot. On occasion the card does not allow for it to be inserted in the PCI slot smoothly. Should this be the case, do not force anything, but try another available slot.
6. Once the card has been successfully installed, check whether all other cards are still properly inserted in the PCI slots. It is possible that the other PCI cards are lifted up slightly when installing a new PCI card; as a result, the relevant cards or even the entire PC may no longer operate correctly.
7. Replace the casing on the computer base and correctly reconnect all cables.
8. Switch on the PC again.

Installation

When starting up the PC, Windows will recognise the Sound Card and the following screen will appear.

Here click "Cancel" (Cancel).

After the PC has started up, insert the Sweex CD-ROM in the CD player. If you have already done so, open the CD-ROM player and close it again. The CD-ROM will start automatically. Click on "Driver" to start the driver installation process.

Subsequently, you will be prompted to restart the PC.

Here, select: "Yes, I want to restart my computer now" (Yes, I want to restart my computer now).

Having restarted the PC, the following screen will appear.

Select the number of speakers you wish to connect to the Sound Card. Now click "Exit" (Exit). You can now start using your Sweeex 5.1 PCI Soundcard. In order to set the sound card, you can use the Mixer icon that will appear in the right-hand bottom of your screen.
