Frequently Asked Questions - AM-500 Amprobe
How to measure DC voltage with the AM-500?
Turn the selector to the V⎓ (DC V) position. Connect the black lead to the COM terminal and the red lead to the VΩ terminal. Place the test probes in parallel across the component. The value appears on the screen with the polarity. Be careful not to exceed 600 V.
How to replace the multimeter battery?
Turn off the device and remove the leads. Open the battery compartment on the back. Remove the old battery and insert a new 9 V alkaline battery (type 6F22) respecting the polarity. Close the cover.
What is the protection of the current ranges?
The AM-500 uses a high breaking capacity (HBC) fuse integrated on the mA and 10 A terminals. This fuse protects the user and the device in case of overload. Always check the correct range and the condition of the fuse.
How to test continuity of a circuit?
Select the continuity mode (diode/wave symbol). Connect the leads to COM and VΩ. Place the probes at the ends of the circuit. If the resistance is very low, the buzzer emits an audible signal. This allows checking a wire or a connection.
How to clean the device?
Before cleaning, turn off the device and unplug the leads. Use a soft, slightly damp cloth to wipe the housing and the screen. Never use abrasive products, alcohol, or solvents. Never immerse the device in water.
What to do if the screen shows a battery symbol?
The battery symbol indicates a low battery. The accuracy of the measurements may be affected. Replace the battery with a new one and check the measurements again.
How to measure resistance?
Make sure the circuit is de-energized. Select the Ω (ohms) range. Connect the leads and place the probes on either side of the resistor. If the resistor is connected in a circuit, it is better to disconnect it to obtain an accurate measurement.
What is the maximum voltage range?
The AM-500 can measure voltages up to 600 V in DC and AC. Never exceed this value to avoid any risk of electrocution or damage. Use appropriate test probes.
How to use the diode function?
Select the diode symbol on the selector. Connect the black lead to COM and the red lead to VΩ. Place the red probe on the anode and the black probe on the cathode of the diode. The forward voltage drop is displayed. In reverse polarity, the screen shows OL. The diode must be isolated from the circuit.
What are the accessories supplied with the AM-500?
The multimeter is delivered with a pair of test leads, a 9 V battery, and a user manual. Some kits may include additional test probes or a protective holster. Check the contents of the packaging.
