USER MANUAL EHT420 FLYMO
The symbol on the product or on its packaging indicates that this product may not be treated as household waste. Instead it shall be handed over to the applicable collection point for the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment.
By ensuring this product is disposed of correctly, you will help prevent potential negative consequences for the environment and human health, which could otherwise be caused by inappropriate waste handling of this product.

Please note: This manual covers various products. Please read carefully to identify which sections apply to your product. If not used properly your product can be dangerous! Your product can cause serious injury to the operator and others, the warnings and safety instructions must be followed to ensure reasonable safety and efficiency in using your product. The operator is responsible for following the warning and safety instructions in this manual and on the product. Never use the product unless the grassbox (if applicable) or guards provided by the manufacturer are in the correct position.

Explanation of Symbols on your Product (Check which symbols apply)
- Warning.
- Read the user instructions carefully to make sure you understand all the controls and what they do.
- Switch off! Remove plug from mains before adjusting, cleaning or if cable is entangled or damaged. Keep the cable away from the cutting parts.
4a. Always keep the lawnmower on the ground when mowing. Tilting or lifting the lawnmower may cause stones to be thrown out (Lawnmowers).
4b. Keep bystanders away (Gardenvacs). - Keep bystanders away. Do not operate whilst people especially children or pets are in the area.
- Beware of severing toes or hands. Do not put hands or feet near a rotating blade.
- Blade continues to rotate after the machine is switched off. Wail until all machine components have completely stopped before touching them.
- Do not operate in the rain or leave the product outdoors while it is raining.
- Unwind and remove fully before use.
- The use of eye protection is recommended to protect against objects thrown by the cutting parts.
- Keep others, including children, pets and bystanders outside the 10 metre hazard zone. Stop the trimmer immediately if you are approached.
WARNING: The cutting line continues to rotate after the machine has been switched off (Trimmers).
12. Assemble debris bag to frame.
13. Switch off and disconnect from the mains electricity supply BEFORE fitting cutting line to cutting head & clipping into place and BEFORE REMOVING cutting line.
14. Switch off and disconnect from the mains electricity supply BEFORE FITTING fully assembled debris bag to product and BEFORE REMOVING fully assembled debris bag from product. NEVER CONNECT THE PRODUCT TO THE MAINS ELECTRICITY SUPPLY UNTIL THE FULLY ASSEMBLED DEBRIS BAG IS FITTED CORRECTLY.
15. The use of ear protection is recommended.
16. Disconnect the spark plug before attempting any maintenance, cleaning or adjustment, or if you are going to leave the product unattended for any period.
17. Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instructions to use the product. Local regulations may restrict the age of the operator.

General (ALL PRODUCTS)

Only use the product in the manner and for the functions described in the instructions.

Never operate the product when you are tired, ill or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medicine.
- The operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property.
- Keep bystanders away. Do not operate whilst people, especially children or pets are in the area.
Electrical Safety (ALL ELECTRIC PRODUCTS)
- The use of a Residual Current Device (R.C.D.) with a tripping current of not more than 30mA is recommended. Even with a R.C.D. installed 100% safety cannot be guaranteed and safe working practice must be followed at all times. Check your R.C.D. every time you use it.
- Before use, examine cable for damage, replace it if there are signs of damage or ageing.
- Do not use the product if the electric cables are damaged or worn.
- Immediately disconnect from the mains electricity supply if the cable is cut, or the insulation is damaged. Do not touch the electric cable until the electrical supply has been disconnected. Do not repair a cut or damaged cable. Replace it with a new one.
- Your extension cable must be uncoiled or unwound, coiled or wound cables can overheat and reduce the efficiency of your mower.
6a. Keep cable away from the product, always work away from the power point using up and down, never in circles. (lawmowers only, including products with plastic cutters)
6b. Keep the cable clear of the cutting area and obstacles at all times. (trimmers/hedgetrimmers only) - Do not pull cable around sharp objects.

Always switch off at the mains before disconnecting any plug, cable connector or extension cable.

Switch off, remove plug from mains and examine electric supply cable for damage or ageing before winding cable for storage. Do not repair a damaged cable, replace it with a new one. Use only Flymo replacement cable.

Always wind cable carefully, avoiding kinking.
- Never carry the product by the cable.
- Never pull on the cable to disconnect any of the plugs.
- Use only on AC mains supply voltage shown on the product rating label.
- Our products are double insulated to EN60335. Under no circumstance should an earth be connected to any part of the product.
Cables
Use only 1.00mm^2 size cable up to 40 metres length maximum.
Maximum rating:
1.00mm^2 size cable 10 amps 250 volts AC
- Mains cables and extensions are available from your local Electrolux Outdoor Products Approved Service Centre.
- Only use extension cables specifically designed for outdoor use.
Battery Safety (CORDLESS TRIMMERS)
Cordless Battery Powered Products require special care.
- AVOID ACCIDENTAL STARTING KEEP HANDS AND FINGER'S AWAY FROM THE SWITCH LEVER WHILE CARRYING THE TRIMMER.
- Always charge the product indoors and store in a cool dry place - out of the reach of children.
- Use only the charger provided with your unit. Use of
any other charger could permanently damage the battery and the trimmer.
- Use the charger with standard domestic household electrical outlets only.
- Do not abuse the charger or charger cord.

Do not use the charger if the charger or charger cord is damaged.

Use the charger indoors only.
- Do not use the charger outdoors.
- Store and charge this unit in a cool, dry well ventilated location and out of the reach of children.
- Do not charge the battery or use the unit in an explosive or corrosive environment. Avoid areas where flammable liquids or gases are present to avoid creating a fire or explosion.
- Do not attempt to repair the unit including the battery. Nylon line replacement and cleaning the unit are the only items suitable for user maintenance.
- Do not insert any object into the motor area. Keep free of debris to avoid overheating.
- Do not incinerate or mutilate the battery. Batteries contain hazardous chemicals. Dispose of properly.
Battery Care
- If over a period of time the battery quickly runs down after a full 24 hour charging period, a replacement battery is needed.
- There will be some charge present in the battery but to ensure maximum running time, recharge your trimmer for 24 hours before use.
- Permanent connection to the charger in a well ventilated area will automatically keep your battery fully charged ready for use.
- To prevent permanent battery damage, never store in a discharged condition.

Contact your local approved service centre/dealer/distributor for a replacement battery and for safe disposal of your old battery.

IMPORTANT

Battery Replacement
Should your battery need to be replaced contact your local approved service centre or dealer who will remove your old battery and fit a genuine Flymo replacement battery.
IMPORTANT
The red lead should always be connected to the red terminal on the battery. The black lead should always be connected to the black terminal on the battery.
Bench Top Re-charging
The wall bracket can also be used as a "bench top" stand for re-charging your cordless trimmer.
Winter Storage
- Fully charge for 24 hours before winter storage.
- If you are unable to leave your cordless trimmer on permanent charge, re-charge the battery every 3 to 4 months for a full 24 hour charging period to top up the battery charge during winter storage.
- Avoid extended storage without re-charge.
- Store in a cool dry place.
Fuel Safety (PETROL PRODUCTS)
(2-stroke engines)
Only use a container that is specially designed for mixing fuel.
- 2-stroke engines run on fuel of 1 part of oil to 25 parts of petrol.
- Do not use standard 2-stroke mixture as supplied by garages, neat petrol or multi grade oil.
- Use a good quality 2-stroke oil or a quality SAE 30 oil mixed with fresh REGULAR grade unleaded petrol.
(4-stroke engines)
Use a fresh, clean, unleaded regular automotive petrol.
Use 4-stroke automotive detergent oil. SAE 10W-30 is recommended for general use.

WARNING - Petrol is highly flammable
- Wear protective clothing when handling any fuels and lubricants.

Avoid contact with skin. If affected, wash liberally with soap and water.
-
Store fuel in a cool place in a container specifically designed for the purpose.
- Refuel outdoors only and do not smoke while refuelling.
- Wipe dirt and grass clippings from the fuel tank filler cap to avoid getting dirt into the fuel tank.
- Add fuel BEFORE starting the engine. Never remove the cap of the fuel tank or add fuel while the engine is running or when the engine is hot.
If petrol is spilled, do not attempt to start the engine but move the machine away from the area of spillage and avoid creating any source of ignition until petrol vapours have dissipated. - Never use stale fuel left from last season or fuel which has been stored for long periods.
- Replace all fuel tanks and container caps securely.
- Move the product away from the fuelling area before starting.
Fuel should be stored in a cool place away from naked flames. - Your carburettor is pre-set. Normally no further adjustment is required.
PREPARATION
LAWNMOWERS (including products with plastic cutters)
- While using your product always wear substantial footwear and long trousers.
- Make sure the lawn is clear of stick, stones, bones, wire and debris; they could be thrown by the cutting parts.

Before using the machine and after any impact, check for signs of wear or damage and repair as necessary.

Replace worn or damaged cutting parts together with their fixings in sets to preserve balance.
- Have faulty silencers replaced (petrol products only).
- The use of ear protection is recommended (petrol products only).
TRIMMERS
- While using your product always wear substantial footwear and long trousers.

Before using the machine and after any impact, check for signs of wear or damage and repair as necessary.

Inspect the area to be cut before each use. Remove all objects such as stones, broken glass, nails, wire, string etc, which can be thrown or become entangled in the trimmer head.
- Check that the cutting parts are fitted correctly.
HEDGETRIMMERS
- Always wear suitable clothing, gloves and stout shoes. The use of safety glasses is recommended. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery which can be caught in moving parts.

Thoroughly inspect the area where the machine is to be used and remove all wires and other foreign objects.
-
Before using the machine and after any impact, check for signs of wear or damage and repair as necessary.
- Always ensure the hand guard supplied is fitted before using the Hedgetrimmer. Never attempt to use an incomplete Hedgetrimmer or one with an unauthorised modification.
GARDENVACS
- Always wear suitable clothing, gloves and stout shoes.
- The use of eye protection is recommended.
- The use of ear protection is recommended.
- To prevent dust irritation, the wearing of a face mask is recommended.
- Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery that can be drawn into the air inlet.

Do not wear clothing with attachments, i.e. toggles or drawstrings that can be drawn into the air inlet.

Do not use if any part is damaged or broken or if any of the screws are loose. Have it repaired by an authorised repairer.
- Always check your gardenvac is in a safe operating condition before use.
- Inspect your product before use, especially the parts of the cutting head. Replace cutting line if worn or damaged. (Shredders only)
USE
ALL LAWNMOWERS (including products with plastic cutters)
- Use the product only in daylight or good artificial light.
- Avoid operating your product in wet grass where feasible.

Take care in wet grass, you may lose your footing.

Do not walk backwards whilst operating your product, you could trip. Walk, never run.
- Never cut grass by pulling the product towards you.
- Keep hands and feet away from the cutting means at all times and especially when switching on the motor/engine.
ELECTRIC LAWNMOWERS (including products with plastic cutters)
- On slopes, be extra careful of your footing and wear non-slip footwear.
- Use across the face of slopes, never up and down.
- Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on slopes. Walk never run.
- Using on banks and slopes can be dangerous. Do not use on banks or steep slopes.
- Switch off before pushing the product over surfaces other than grass.
- Never operate the product with damaged guards or without guards in place.
- Do not tilt the product when the motor is running, except when starting and stopping. In this case, do not tilt more than absolutely necessary and lift only
the part which is away from the operator. Always ensure that both hands are in the operating position before returning the appliance to the ground.

Never pick up or carry a product when it is operating or still connected to the mains supply.

PETROLPRODUCTS
Use (All)
- Do not operate the engine in a confined space where exhaust fumes (carbon monoxide) can collect.
- On slopes, be extra careful of your footing and wear non-slip footwear.
- Do not overspeed the engine or alter governor settings. Excessive speed is dangerous and shortens product life.
- Do not tilt the product when starting the engine, except if the product has to be tilted for starting. In this case, do not tilt more than absolutely necessary and lift only the part which is away from the operator. Always ensure that both hands are in the operating position before returning the appliance to the ground.
- Never pick up or carry a product while the engine is running.
- Spark plug lead may be hot - handle with care.
- Do not attempt any maintenance on your product when the engine is hot.
Use (Petrol Grass Trimmer - using plastic cutting lines)
- Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on slopes.
-
Trimming on banks and slopes can be dangerous and you should use extreme caution if using the trimmer in this manner. When operating the trimmer on banks or steep slopes it is important that the feet of the operator remain firmly on level ground.

Stop the engine before pushing the trimmer across surfaces other than grass and when transporting the trimmer to and from the area to be mowed.
- Cutting disc continues to rotate after the machine is switched off. Wait until all machine components have completely stopped before touching them.
- Switch off the engine, wait until the cutting disc has stopped, disconnect the spark plug lead and wait until the engine has cooled:-
- before leaving the trimmer unattended for any period;
- before refuelling;
- before clearing a blockage:
- before checking, cleaning or working on the trimmer;
- if you hit an object. Do not use your trimmer until you are sure that the entire trimmer is in a safe operating condition;
- if the trimmer starts to vibrate abnormally. Check immediately. Excessive vibration can cause injury.
- If the engine is provided with a shut-off valve, turn the fuel off at the conclusion of trimming.
Use (Petrol Lawnmower - using metal bar blade)
- Mowing on banks and slopes can be dangerous. Do not mow on banks or steep slopes.
- Release the Operator Presence Control to stop the engine before pushing the mower across surfaces other than grass and when transporting the lawnmower to and from the area to be mowed.

Never operate the lawnmower with damaged guards or without guards in place.

Release the Operator Presence Control, to stop the engine, and wait until the blade has stopped:
- before leaving the mower unattended for any period.
- Release the Operator Presence Control to stop the engine, wait until the blade has stopped, disconnect the spark plug lead and wait until the engine has cooled:-
- before refuelling;
- before clearing a blockage;
before checking, cleaning or working on the appliance;
- if you hit an object. Do not use your lawnmower until you are sure that the entire lawnmower is in a safe operating condition;
- if the lawnmower starts to vibrate abnormally. Check immediately. Excessive vibration can cause injury.
ALL TRIMMERS
- Use the trimmer only in daylight or good artificial light.
- Avoid operating your trimmer in wet grass, where feasible.
- Take care in wet grass, you may lose your footing.
- On slopes, be extra careful of your footing and wear non-slip footwear.

- Keep cutting head below waist level.
- Switch off before pushing the trimmer over surfaces other than grass.
- Never operate the trimmer with damaged guards or without guards in place.

- Never hold the Hedgetrimmer by the guard.
- Never operate the Hedgetrimmer with damaged guards or without guards in place.
- Remove plug from mains before passing Hedgetrimmer to another person.
- Avoid operating while people especially children are nearby.
- Whilst using the Hedgestrimmer always be sure of a safe and secure operating position.

- Do not use the Gardenvac when it is raining or in damp and wet areas.
- Never use the Gardenvac in or near water or ponds.
- Know how to stop the Gardenvac quickly in an emergency.
- On slopes, be extra careful of your footing and wear non-slip footwear.
- Never pick up or carry the Gardenvac by the cable.
- Keep children, pets and bystanders at a safe distance when using your Gardenvac.
- Keep long hair away from air inlet.
- Keep all inlets clear of debris.
- Always remain alert.

Do not attempt to use your Gardenvac without the fully assembled debris bag fitted.

- Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.

MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
ALLPRODUCTS
- Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to be sure the product is in safe working condition.
- Replace worn or damaged parts for safety.
- Only use the replacement spare parts and accessories specified for your product.
- Store in a cool dry place.
- Renew your metal blade after 50 hours mowing or 2 years whichever is the sooner - regardless of condition. (if applicable)
ELECTRIC LAWNMOWERS (including products with plastic cutters)
- Be careful during adjustment of the product to prevent entrapment of the fingers between moving cutting parts and fixed parts of the machine.
- Check the grassbox/grassbag frequently for wear or deterioration. (if applicable)
PETROLPRODUCTS
- Never store the product with fuel in the tank inside a building where fumes can reach an open flame or spark.
- Allow the engine to cool before storing in any enclosure.
- To reduce fire hazard, keep the engine, muffler and
fuel storage area free of grass, leaves or excessive grease.
- If the fuel tank has to be drained, this should be done outdoors.
- Be careful during adjustment of the product to prevent entrapment of the fingers between moving cutting parts and fixed parts of the machine.
TRIMMERS
- To avoid the risk of injury keep fingers and hands clear of the line cutter on the leading edge of the guard.
- Inspect and maintain the trimmer regularly. Any repairs must be carried out by an authorised repairer.
HEDGETRIMMERS
- Be careful during adjustment of the Hedgetrimmer to prevent entrapment of the fingers between moving blades and fixed parts of the machine.
- After use the Hedgetrimmer should be stored using the cover/storage holder provided.
GARDENVACS
- Inspect the collection bag regularly. If the collection bag becomes worn or damaged, replace.
SERVICE RECOMMENDATIONS
- Your product is uniquely identified by a silver and black product rating label.
We strongly recommend that your product is serviced at least every twelve months, more often in a professional application.
GUARANTEE AND GUARANTEE POLICY
If any part is found defective due to faulty manufacture within the guarantee period, Electrolux Outdoor Products, through its Authorised Service Repairers will effect the repair or replacement to the customer free of charge providing:
(a) The fault is reported directly to the Authorised Repairer.
(b) Proof of purchase is provided.
(c) The fault is not caused by misuse, neglect or faulty adjustment by the user.
(d) The failure has not occurred through fair wear and tear.
(e) The machine has not been serviced or repaired, taken apart or tampered with by any other person not authorised by Electrolux Outdoor Products.
(f) The machine has not been used for hire.
(g) The machine is owned by the original purchaser.
(h) The machine has not been used commercially.
Where the machine is used commercially the guarantee is 90 days. (Petrol products only)
This guarantee is additional to, and in no way diminishes the customers statutory rights.
Failures due to the following are not covered, therefore it is important that you read the instructions contained in the Operator's Manual and understand how to operate and maintain your machine:
Failures not covered by guarantee
- Replacing worn or damaged blades, plastic cutters, nylon line, cutting lines and cutting heads (Check which parts apply to your product).
- Failures as a result of not reporting an initial fault.
- Failures as a result of sudden impact.
- Failures as a result of not using the product in accordance with the instructions and recommendations contained in the operator's manual.
- Machines used for hire are not covered by this guarantee.
- The following items listed are considered as wearing parts and their life is dependent on regular maintenance and are, therefore not normally subject to a valid warranty claim: Blades, Plastic Cutters, Nylon Line, Spool and line, Cutting Lines, Cutting head, Electric Mains cable, Debris bag, belts, cables, recoil ropes, filters. (Check which parts apply to your product).

Electrolux Outdoor Products does not accept liability under the warranty for defects caused in whole or part, directly or indirectly by the fitting of replacement parts or additional parts that are not either manufactured or approved by Electrolux Outdoor Products, or by the machine having been modified in any way.
ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION
Electrolux Outdoor Products are manufactured under an Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) using, where practical, components manufactured in the most environmentally responsible manner, according to company procedures, and with the potential for recycling at the end of the products' life.
- Packaging is recyclable and plastic components have been labelled (where practical) for categorised recycling.
- Awareness of the environment must be considered when disposing of 'end-of-life' product.
If necessary, contact your local authority for disposal information.
BATTERY DISPOSAL (if applicable)
- The battery should be taken to an Authorised Service Centre or your local Recycling Station.
- Do NOT dispose of used battery with household waste.

Do NOT dispose of battery to water.

Lead/Acid batteries can be harmful and should be disposed of through the recognised recycling facility in accordance with European Regulations.
- Do NOT incinerate.
DISPOSAL OF FUELS AND LUBRICATING OILS (if applicable)
- Wear protective clothing when handling any fuels and lubricants.
- Avoid contact with skin.
- Remove petrol and engine oil before transporting the product.
- Contact your local authority for information of your nearest Recycling/Disposal Station.
- Do NOT dispose of used fuels/oils with household waste.
- Do NOT dispose of used fuels/oils to water.
- Waste fuels/oils are harmful, but can be recycled and should be disposed of through the recognised facilities.
- Do NOT incinerate.
