How do I insert the SIM card and battery?

Remove the back cover by pressing the groove at the bottom. Insert the SIM card with the gold contacts facing down. Then insert the battery and replace the cover.

How to use the SOS button?

Press and hold the SOS button on the back of the phone for 3 seconds. It will send an SMS to preset numbers and then call them. Program up to 5 numbers in the SOS settings.

Can I store contacts on the phone?

Yes, you can store up to 500 contacts in the internal memory. You can also save contacts to the SIM card.

How do I set the date and time?

Go to Menu > Settings > Phone Settings > Date & Time. You can set manually or enable auto-update from network.

Does the phone support 3G or 4G?

No, the Bea-fon SL495 is a 2G GSM phone only. It works on 900/1800 MHz networks. 3G/4G networks are not supported.

How to save battery life?

Reduce display brightness, close unused apps (like radio), disable Bluetooth when not in use, and set a short backlight timeout.

Can I listen to music on this phone?

Yes, you can play MP3 files stored on a microSD card. Use the Music player from the main menu. Also FM radio is available without headset (uses antenna built-in).

How to clean the phone safely?

Turn off the phone and remove the battery. Wipe the exterior with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners.

What type of charger does it use?

It uses a standard Micro USB charger. The output should be 5V, 500mA. You can also charge via computer USB port.

Can I expand the storage?

Yes, the phone supports microSD cards up to 32 GB. Insert the card into the slot under the back cover (above the battery).

Getting Started

What is a SIM card?

Every mobile telephone requires an SIM card (Subscriber Identity Module); without the SIM card, you cannot make phone calls. The SIM card is a microprocessor that saves your data and contacts. Therefore, handle the card with care and exercise caution when inserting or removing the card. SIM card must be kept out of reach of small children.

Inserting the SIM card and Micro SD card

1. The telephone must be switched off and disconnected from the charger.

2. To remove the battery cover on the back of the phone, press down on the notch under the battery cover with your fingernail.

1. Should the battery be in the device, please remove it.

2. You see 2 card holders: at the top left and right for the SIM card and at the bottom right for the Micro SD card.

Carefully insert the SIM card in the SIM card slot (1). Make sure that the gold-colored contacts on the card are facing downwards and the tapered corner is facing left.

1. Gently insert the Micro SD card in the SD Micro SD card slot (2) and lock it eventually in place.

Inserting the Battery

Align the gold-colored contacts of the battery with the corresponding contacts of the phone.

1. Press the other end of the battery until it snaps into place.

2. Push the battery cover down onto the device until it clicks into place.

Charging the Battery

You have two options to charge the SL495 battery:

A. Charging station
B. Charger
1. Insert the charger connector into the telephone.
2. Connect the charger to a power outlet.
3. It could take several hours to charge the battery. If the telephone is charged while it is switched off, it takes a few seconds before charging indicator appears in the display.
4. If the telephone is charged while switched on, the battery indicator begins to go up. The battery is fully charged when the battery indicator no longer goes up.
5. Disconnect the charger from the network and from the device when it is no longer needed!

Note: The initial charging of the battery should take at least 12 hours.

Switching the telephone on/off:

Make sure that the SIM card is in the telephone and that the battery is charged.

1. To turn off the phone, press and hold down the red key for 2-3 seconds.

2. If the PIN code is active, your phone will now prompt you to enter your PIN code; please enter it and confirm with OK.

3. Please select your language and confirm with OK.
4. To turn off the phone, press and hold down the red key for 2-3 seconds.

Without the SIM card, only the emergency call number can be dialed. Note: If you enter the PIN code incorrectly 3 times, the phone will ask for the PUK code that you have received together with the SIM card.

Standby

If you do not use the telephone for a short time period, the telephone automatically switches to standby mode. Press any key to exit this mode.

Calls can be answered in standby mode.

Display symbols

	Reception strength:The vertical bars show the strength of the reception of your network operator.
	New MessagesThis symbol is displayed when you receive a new message.SIM card has an unread message. This symbol [IMAGE] links when the Inbox folder is full. You have to delete some messages in order to be able to receive new messages.
	HeadphonesThis symbol is displayed when headphones are plugged in.
	Missed callsThis symbol is displayed when you did not answer a call.

Headset/Bluetooth mode

If a headset is connected (also a Bluetooth headset), you can answer the call using the button on the headset.

Menu function

On the default screen, press the left menu key

(☐) to enter the Main menu and the right menu key ( ) to enter the Contacts.

Press the "Up arrow key" to enter the Messages and press the "Down arrow key" to enter the Photo contacts.

In some menus, you can use keys I and II to navigate to the right and left.

Call functions

Call

1. Enter the telephone number including the area code and press the green key. International Calls: Prior to entering the area code, enter a + -symbol by pressing * twice as well as the country (or regional) code. (If necessary, omit 0 before the area code).
2. Press the right menu key Delete to delete the digit to the left of the cursor.
3. Press the green key to call the number.

Making calls using the phonebook:

If there are contacts saved in the Phonebook, you can make a call using the Phonebook.

1. To enter the phonebook, press the 'right' menu key on the default screen.
2. Scroll upwards or downwards with the arrow to the desired telephone number.
3. Press the green key to call the number.
4. Press the red key in order to cancel or end the call.

Making calls using the Photo Contacts

On the default screen, press the arrow key (downwards).

Here you can select up to 8 photo contacts. Use the arrow keys to scroll to the desired photo contact and then press the call key (green key).

The selected photo appears in the photo contact directory. Carry out the following steps in order to assign a photo to this contact:

Create photo contact

1. On the default screen, press the arrow key (downwards) to enter the photo contact menu.
2. Use the arrow keys to scroll.
3. To edit a photo contact, press the left menu key (Options), select Edit and confirm with the left menu key (OK).
4. In the first line, enter the phone number
5. In the second line, press the left menu key "Options" and add a photo; you can select the following:

a. Select from file: Select a picture you have already saved.

b. From camera: Take a picture directly using the camera

1. Once you have edited the contact, press the right menu key (Back) and confirm with the left menu key (Yes) to save.

Important: The photo contact image may be max. 192 x 256 pixels and max. 12 KB. The SL495 camera has its own resolution for the photo contacts (in photo mode, press key 1 to change the resolution)

Note: To save multiple images, you need a Micro SD memory card up to 16 GB. (Not included in the accessories)

Answering a call

When you receive a call and the phone rings or vibrates, the number or name appears on the display.

1. If you would like to answer the call, press the green key or OK.
2. You can also answer the call automatically by opening the phone; please go to the following menu item:

Settings - Call settings - Answer mode: check "Unfold to answer" and finally press the right menu key (Done).

1. If you would like to decline the call, press the red key.

2. You can use the side key to silence the incoming call.

Functions during a conversation:

Press the Options key during a call to access the following functions:

Hold:

Sets up a call queue.

End single call*:

End call.

New call:

Make another call.

Contacts:

To go to the Phonebook.

Call logs:

Shows the call list

Messages:

Enters the messages.

Phonebook

You can save up to 250 phone numbers in your SL495 phone. Up to 250 phone numbers can be stored on the SIM card.

Accessing your telephone numbers

You have two options to go to the contacts:

1. In the default mode, press the right menu key
2. In the default mode, press the left menu key, select Phonebook and confirm with OK

Note: Symbolises a SIM card entry, symbolises a phone entry.

New contact

1. Select Add new contact in menu Phonebook.
2. Select memory: SIM card or Phone.
   SIM memory: Only Name and Number can be saved.
3. Phone memory: Name, Number and Dial tone can be saved.
4. To save the contact, press Options and Save.

Edit a contact:

1. Choose a name, press Options, select Edit and confirm with OK.
2. To save the change when editing entries, press Options, select Save and confirm with OK

Deleting a contact from the phonebook or SIM card

1. Select Main menu - Phonebook and press OK
2. Select a contact and press OK
3. Click on Options
4. Select Delete and press OK
5. Press OK again to confirm the deletion.

Copying a contact from the phonebook or SIM card

1. Select Main menu - Phonebook and press OK
2. Select a contact and press OK
3. Click on Options
4. Select Copy and press OK
5. Select the storage: SIM card or Phone and press OK

Speed dial

1. Select Main menu - Phonebook and press OK
2. Select Speed dial and press OK

You can turn the Speed dial function on or off.

Up to 8 numbers can be saved as speed dial numbers (2-9)

1. Select Set up number and press OK.
2. Select the desired number (2-9) and click on Options.
3. To edit, click on Edit.
4. Select the desired name from the Phonebook and press OK (the desired name must already be stored under Contacts).

On the default screen, press and hold down the desired number (2-9) for 2-3 seconds to select the assigned number.

Direct dial numbers I - II (M1/M2)

1. Select Menu, Phonebook and press OK
2. Select direct dial numbers I - II and press OK

Here you can edit numbers I and II.

If you press key I or II in the default mode, the SL495 will dial the stored phone number.

Messages

You can receive and send messages: SMS / MMS, however, it depends on the network operator. For more information, please contact your carrier.

Write messages

1. Select Menu, Messages and press OK
2. Press Write message
3. Select SMS

Text input

The following functions are available:

• Press 0 to add a space
• Press the * key to add special characters, you can use "arrow keys", keys "I" and "II" to navigate to the desired symbols
• Press the arrow key to move the position indicator to the left or right.
• Press the right menu key (Delete) to delete a letter and keep the right menu key (Delete) pressed to delete the whole text.
• Press the # key to toggle between lower and upper case: De, DE, de, 123 and pay attention to the symbol in the upper left corner of the display.

Once you are done with the message, press Options and select Send to.

Here you can add one or more contacts to the message

Other Options:

The number of letters used can be seen at the upper right edge of the display.

Once you are done with the message, press Options and select Send to.

Here you can add one or more contacts to the message

Other options:

Insert symbol, Input method, Use details and Save.

Inbox

In this menu you can view new or already read messages.

Depending on the mode, the phone vibrates or rings, and the green LED flashes when you receive a new message, and this symbol appears on the display in the standby mode.

Press Options for the following functions:

Answer, Call sender, End anew, Delete and Advanced.

Note: If the short message memory is full, the symbol blinks on the defa screen. Please delete some messages to be able to receive new ones again.

Outbox

In the Outbox, unsent SMS messages are saved.

Drafts

In Drafts you can see your saved SMS.

Sent messages

In this menu you can view already sent messages. The following functions are available:

Forward, Delete, Use number, Copy to SIM* and Move to SIM card*.

*This option depends on where the SMS was saved.

Voicemail box

Voice mail is a network function. If a voice mail has been received, the receipt of a new message will be shown on the display of your telephone.

1. Select Menu, Messages and press OK
2. Select Settings and press OK
3. Select SMS and press OK
4. Select SIM and press OK
5. Select Voicemail box and press OK
6. Select 1. and click on Options.
7. Choose Select or Edit
8. If you choose Edit, enter a Name and the number of your voicemail box number.

On the default screen: Press and hold down number 1 and your phone will call the number stored in the Voicemail box.

Note: This service must be supported by the network operator.

Settings

SMS setting

You can define the SMS settings. The following functions are available: SIM (Profile settings):

Here you can set, among others, the message service centre number (SMSC) (dependent on the network operator) and other SMS settings.

Memory status:

With this option, the SMS memory status from your SIM card and your telephone are displayed.

Sent messages:

Switch on/off the storage of sent messages

Preferred storage

Select the storage location for the SMS from Phone or SIM

Calls

Call list

Your phone stores lists of Missed calls, Dialled calls, and Received calls. The newest entries are at the top of the list.

Use Option to access the following functions: View, Call, Send SMS, Send MMS, Save to Phonebook, and Delete.

Delete call logs:

You can delete the missed, dialled and received call logs separately or all call logs at once.

Extras

Alarm

Up to a maximum of 5 alarms can be set.

Setting the alarm:

1. Select an alarm and press Edit.
2. Setting the alarm: On or Off (using I and II), Time, Repeat and Alarm type.
3. To save the alarm, press the left menu key Save in the menu item Time.

When the alarm sounds, click on the Stop button to stop it or click on the Snooze button. In this case, the alarm will snooze and sound again after approx. 5 minutes.

Events

Here you can enter events.

Add events:

Press Options and select Add.

Enter the desired details.

To save the event, press Options and Save.

In the Reminders menu, the following Options are available: View, Add, Edit, Delete, Delete completed, Delete all, and Display.

Calculator

With this function, you can use your mobile telephone as a pocket calculator. The pocket calculator can perform basic arithmetic functions.

Functions:

• Enter the numbers (1 to 0).
• Press # for the decimal point.
• Press the arrow keys for +, -;
• Press the M keys for x, ÷ ;
• Press the camera key for =

Press OK for the result, press and hold down Delete for a new calculation task.

This is a service that is dependent on the network operator.

Press the camera key!

Taking photographs

Point the camera lens at a position or an object and press the camera key to take a photo. After the snapshot has been taken, the photo is shown on the display and automatically saved.

Important: To save multiple photos, please use a memory card (Micro SD up to 16 GB).

Use Options to change the following settings:

Photos:

View the saved photos (in .jpg format). You can send and also receive the photos via Bluetooth.

The following functions are available to your under Options: View, Send, Use, Rename, Delete, Sort by, Storage and Image information.

Camera settings:

Set Shutter sound, LW, Anti-flicker, and Delay time.

Image settings:

Defining the Image size, and Image quality.

White balance:

Adapt to the ambient lighting conditions.

Scene mode:

Select between Automatic and Night

Effect settings:

Here you can add different photo effects.

Storage:

Select between: Phone or Memory card (if available).

Restore setting:

In photo mode, the following functions are available to you:

View images:

This function allows you to listen to FM radio. In FM mode, the following keys are available:

Use the file manager to manage your files and folders in the phor memory and on the memory card.

Open:

To display the content of the selected folder.

New folder:

To create a new folder.

Rename:

To rename a folder.

Delete:

To delete a folder.

Format:

CAUTION! With this function, all data on the data storage device will be deleted.

Copy pictures to the computer

To copy the images you have taken with the SL495 camera onto your PC, please proceed as follows:

1. Connect the telephone to the computer using the supplied micro USB cable.
2. After that, a menu appears on the telephone -select "Mass storage" and confirm with "OK"
3. The computer will recognize the telephone as removable media.
4. Using the Windows Explorer, now you can process the data as usual or copy it onto the computer.

Note: The photos can be found in the "Photos" folder

Settings

Profiles (Tone settings)

1. Select Menu, Settings and press OK
2. Select Profiles and press OK

Displays the profile mode list, including: General, Silent, Conference, Outdoors.

Select the mode and enter the option menu:

Enable:

Enable the profile mode.

Adjust: Set ringtones and other sounds as desired

Reset: Reset to default settings.

The following tone settings are available:

Alarm type, Ringer type, Ringtone, Ringtone volume, Messages, Message volume, Keytone, Keytone volume, Power on, Power off, and System tone (System tone for error messages, low battery, etc.).

SOS

The SOS function is a simple function that can save lives at a critical point in time. You can save up to 5 SOS contacts and one SMS. These numbers, which you have to save one after another, are automatically dialed in case of emergency if you press the emergency call button on the back of the mobile phone. During the emergency call, a warning tone sounds so that the called person knows that it is an emergency as sends an emergency SMS to all stored numbers! If the first number cannot be reached, the next number is automatically dialed, etc.

If no emergency call number is saved or your telephone card is empty or you are in a foreign network (e.g. roaming is not activated), you can still call 112 or other emergency call numbers using the numeric keys. If the SOS call is answered, the telephone switches to hands-free mode.

Attention:

If a call forwarding function is enabled for your SOS contacts, please make sure that the call forwarding activation is 20 seconds or longer.

Note:

• To stop or cancel the emergency call, you must press the right mouse button or the SOS button.
• When using a Prepaid card: Always ensure for sufficient funds on your prepaid card, since private emergency call numbers cannot be dialed without sufficient funds.

Outside of your network operator's home network, the international SOS 112 can usually still be called.

Attention: If you save emergency call numbers such as rescue, police, fire department, etc., you must clarify this in advance with the respective institutions. No liability is assumed for possibly incurred costs if you call by mistake.

Important:

Call forwarding:

With this network service, you can redirect incoming calls to another telephone specified by you. Several call forwarding actions can be activated at the same time.

Call barring

With this network service, you can restrict your calls.

Change device name:

Change the names of the Bluetooth devices.

Use details:

In this menu, you can: Set Audio path, Storage and under My address you can see the MAC address of your phone.

Search for Bluetooth audio device:

1. To start searching for another Bluetooth device, press OK.
2. Select the desired device and press Pair.
3. If you connect to another Bluetooth device, you will need to enter a password. Confirm the password with OK.

Under Options you will find the following functions: Connect, Rename, Authorize, Delete and Delete all

Restore factory settings

With this function, you can reset the telephone settings to the factory default configuration.

You have to enter the password to restore the factory settings. Th default password is: 0000.

Troubleshooting

If problems or irregularities occur while using the phone, please refer to the information in the following table. If a particular problem can not be solved using the following information, please contact the dealer where you purchased the phone.

The phone cannot be turned on:

• Check whether the battery is correctly inserted into the telephone.
• Check the battery status, charge the battery, or replace it.
• Check whether the PIN code was entered correctly.

If the PIN code is entered incorrectly 3 times, the SIM card will be blocked and you will need the PUK code (please contact your carrier for your PUK code).

SIM card error:

• Dirt on the contact areas of the SIM card? Clean the contact areas of the SIM card.
• SIM card is not inserted properly, insert the SIM card correctly.
• SIM card does not function or is damaged? Get your SIM card checked by your network operator.

Network connection cannot be made:

• Bad reception? Move to an open space or if you are in an enclosed space, near the window.
• You are out of range of the mobile network. For information about coverage, please contact your network operator.
• SIM card is invalid. Contact your service provider.

Bad voice quality:

• Poor network connection quality on the part of the network provider? Press the end key and select again. You may be routed to a network connection or phone line with better quality.
• Poor quality of the local telephone line? Press the end key and select again. You may be routed to a network connection or phone line with better quality.
• Try turning the volume up louder.

Outgoing calls cannot be made:

• Check the phone number and try again.
• Have you activated call barring? If so, please disable all call barring.
• Check whether the SIM card is registered on the network.
• Check whether enough credit is on your SIM card.

You do not receive incoming calls:

- Check whether the SIM card is registered on the network.

• Check whether the phone is turned on.
• Check the signal strength
• Have you activated call barring? If so, please disable all call barring.

Display is black:

• Check the battery status, charge the battery, or replace it.
• Check the Wallpaper.

Blocked PIN:

Intended operation/use

Phone

If you follow the recommendations below, you will prevent the warranty from early becoming null and void, and you will continue to enjoy your product for years to come.

• Please use original accessories only or accessories approved by your mobile phone manufacturer. Failure to use original and/or approved accessories may result in poor performance, damage to the phone or even to your body, and may affect local telecommunication equipment.
• Please turn off the mobile phone before cleaning it. Use a wet or antistatic cloth for cleaning; avoid using chemicals or cleansing lotions that may cause damage to the phone.

• Because the mobile phone can generate electromagnetic fields, avoid placing it near any magnetic objects such as a computer or a hard drive.

• Interferences are generated when the mobile phone is used near certain electronic devices, e.g., a TV set, a telephone, a radio, and a computer.

• Never leave the mobile phone exposed to sunlight or in an environment with strong radiation as high temperatures will significantly shorten the life of the electronic components.
• Always keep the mobile phone dry as liquids could damage the integrated circuit.
• Never apply strong force to the phone and do not drop it. Forceful actions of this type can damage the circuit.
• Please do not connect incompatible devices to the phone.
• Do not attempt to disassemble the mobile phone or its battery.
• Do not keep the mobile phone together with a flammable or explosive material.
• Never attempt to charge the phone without first inserting the battery.
• Do not paint the phone. Paint can cause the moving parts to stick together and thus prevent the proper operation.
• To disconnect the device from the mains, unplug the power cord from the mains outlet. Therefore, the device must be positioned in such a way as to ensure unhindered access to the mains outlet at all times, so that you can pull out the plug from the mains outlet immediately in an emergency. To prevent fire hazard, always pull out the plug from the mains outlet after each use of the device.

All notes apply likewise to the phone, battery, charger, and all the accessories. Should one of these parts malfunction, send it to your dealer. The staff will assist you and repair the device, if necessary.

Battery

- Your phone is supplied by means of a rechargeable battery.

- Note that a new battery will not reach its full charge until it is fully charged and discharged two or

- three times! Although the battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times, it will eventually degrade. If the operating time (talk and standby time) is considerably shorter compared to the normal operating time, you should buy a new battery.

- Disconnect the charger from the network and from the device when it is no longer needed! When the battery is fully discharged, it may take a few minutes for the charge indicator to appear on the display or for you to make calls.

- Use only batteries and chargers approved by your phone manufacturer. Unplug your charger from the mains outlet when not in use. Do not leave the battery in the charger for more than a week since overcharging may shorten its life.

- A fully charged battery discharges over time when not in use.

- Extreme temperatures have an adverse effect on the performance of your battery.

- Use the battery only for its intended purpose. Do not use damaged chargers or batteries.

- Do not short-circuit the battery. An unintentional short-circuit may occur when the plus and minus poles of the battery are connected directly by means of a metallic object. Short-circuiting the poles may cause damage to the battery or the connecting object.

- Do not throw batteries into fire as there is risk of explosion! Batteries can also explode if they are damaged. Batteries must be disposed of properly!

- Do not attempt to open or destroy batteries. If a battery features liquid leaking from it, make sure that this liquid does not come into contact with the skin or eyes. In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water or seek medical advice.

- Dispose of batteries according to official regulations (e.g., regarding recycling). Never dispose of batteries together with household waste.

- Keep temperatures between 15°C and 25°C. A phone with a too cold or warm battery may not work temporarily, even if the battery is fully charged. The battery performance is particularly affected at temperatures below freezing.

Traffic safety:

Do not use your phone when driving a vehicle. Always secure the phone in its holder; do not place the phone on the passenger seat, or in a place where it may come off in case of a collision or a sudden brake manoeuvre. Remember: Traffic safety always has priority!

Operating environment:

Always observe special regulations applicable in a particular area, and always turn off the phone when the use of mobile phones is prohibited, or if interferences are caused by the phone, or if dangerous situations may arise.

Always keep the device in its normal operating position.

Parts of the phone are magnetic. Metal parts can be attracted by the phone, and people with hearing aids should not hold the phone to the ear with the hearing aid.

Always secure the phone in its holder as metal parts can be attracted by the handset. Do not place credit cards or other magnetic media near the phone as the data contained therein may be erased.

Electronic equipment:

Most modern electronic devices have RF (radio frequency) shielding. However, certain electronic devices may not be protected from the RF signals from your mobile phone.

Pacemakers:

Pacemaker manufacturers recommend that a minimum distance of 20 cm between a mobile phone and a pacemaker be maintained in order to avoid potential interferences with the pacemaker. These recommendations are consistent with the independent research and recommendations of Wireless Technology Research. For people with a pacemaker:

• You should always keep a minimum distance of 20 cm between the mobile phone and the pacemaker when the phone is turned on.
• You should not keep the phone in the breast pocket.
• When using a mobile phone, you should hold it to the ear that is farthest away from your pacemaker to reduce the risk of possible interferences.
• If you have a reason to suspect that an interference has occurred, turn off your phone immediately.

Hearing aids?

Some digital mobile phones may cause interferences with some hearing aids. Should that be the case, please contact the service provider.

Other medical equipment:

Operation of a radio, including a mobile phone, may interfere with the function of insufficiently shielded medical equipment in certain cases. If you need information to adequately shield a medical device from external RF energy, or have questions about other subjects, please contact a physician or a medical device manufacturer. Turn off you phone in healthcare facilities when prompted by signs, notices or other written regulations. In hospitals or healthcare facilities, equipment that could be sensitive to external RF energy may be used in certain cases.
