How do I install the Philips CED370 car stereo?

Connect the power (yellow constant 12V, red switched 12V, black ground), speakers (color-coded wires), and antenna. Slide into the DIN slot and secure with the cage. Refer to the manual for specific wiring colors.

Why does the unit not power on?

Check the fuse on the back of the unit and the vehicle's fuse box. Ensure the ignition is on (red wire). Verify all connections are secure and the ground is properly connected.

Why is there no sound?

Check volume level, speaker connections, and fader/balance settings. Ensure the unit is not in mute mode. Test with a known working speaker.

How do I set the clock?

Press and hold the DISP/CLOCK button until the time flashes. Use the SEEK/TRACK buttons to adjust hours and minutes. Press DISP/CLOCK again to confirm.

How do I tune radio stations?

Press SRC to select tuner. Use SEEK +/- for automatic scanning or MANUAL mode to tune manually. To store a station, hold a preset button (1-6).

Why is the AM reception poor?

AM reception is sensitive to interference. Ensure the antenna is fully extended and the connection is secure. Avoid metal film on windows. Try repositioning the vehicle.

How can I play music from a USB drive?

Insert a USB drive formatted as FAT32 with MP3 or WMA files. Press SRC to select USB. Use SEEK to navigate folders and tracks.

How do I remove the detachable face plate?

Press the RELEASE button on the front panel. The face plate will unlock. Gently pull it towards you to remove. Store in the provided case to avoid damage.

Why does the CD skip?

Clean the CD with a soft cloth wiping radially. Check for scratches or dust on the disc. Avoid using damaged discs. Ensure the unit is not exposed to vibrations.

How do I reset the unit to factory settings?

Press the RESET button (small hole) with a pointed object. This clears all settings and presets. Use if the unit behaves erratically.

Install the unit

These instructions are for a typical installation. However, if your car has different requirements, make the corresponding adjustment. If you have any questions regarding installation kits, consult your Philips car audio dealer.

Caution

• This unit is designed for negative ground (earth) 12 V DC operation only.
• Always install this unit in the car dashboard. Other locations can be dangerous as the rear of the unit heats up during use.
  • To avoid short-circuit: before you connect, ensure that the ignition is off.
• Ensure that you connect the yellow and red power supply leads after all other leads are connected.
• Ensure that all loose leads are insulated with electrical tape.
• Ensure that the leads do not get caught under screws orin parts that will move (e.g. seat rail).
• Ensure that all ground (earth) leads are run to a common ground (earth) point.
• Use only the supplied mounting hardware for a safe and secure installation.
• Improper fuses can cause damage or fire. When you need to change the fuse, consult a professional.

Note on the power supply lead (yellow)

When you connect other devices to this • apparatus, ensure that the rating of the car circuit is higher than the total fuse value of all the connected devices.

Notes on speaker connection

Never connect speaker wires to the metal body or chassis of the car.

Never connect speaker wires with stripes • to one another.

3 Connect the supplied standard connector to the unit.

Connect radio antenna

If your car has built-in radio antenna, connect it to the radio antenna of the system for better radio signal.

Mount in the dashboard

Note

For proper operation of the DVD player, the chassis must be mounted within 20 degree horizontal. Ensure that the unit is mounted within this limitation.

1 If the car does not have an on-board drive or navigation computer, disconnect the negative terminal of the car attery. If you disconnect the car battery in • a car that has an on-board drive or navigation computer, the computer may lost its memory. If the car battery is not disconnected, • to avoid short-circuit, ensure that bare wires do not touch each other.

2 Ensure that car dashboard opening is within these measurements:

3 Remove the two transport screws on the top of the unit.

4 Remove the mounting sleeve with the removal keys.

5 Install the sleeve into the dashboard and bend the tabs outward to fix the sleeve. If the unit is not fixed by sleeve but • by the supplied screws, skip this step.

6 Place the rubber cushion over the end of the bolt.

7 Slide the unit into the dashboard until a click sound is heard.

8 Reconnect the negative terminal of the car battery.

Attach the front panel

1 Attach the trim plate.

3 Press the right side of the panel toward the left and point the hole to the pillar on the right.
4 Release the panel to engage the right side.
5 Push the front side of the panel backward to the main unit until a "click" is heard.

Install remote control battery

Caution

Risk of explosion! Keep batteries away from heat, sunshine or fire. Never discard batteries in fire.

• Risk of decreased battery life! Never mix different brands or types of batteries.
• Risk of product damage! When the remote control is not used for long periods, remove the batteries.

For first-time use:

1 Remove the protective tab to activate the remote control battery.
2 Open the battery compartment.
3 Insert one CR2025 battery with correct polarity (+/-) as indicated.
4 Close the battery compartment.

Before you start to search for radio stations, you can select tuner sensitivity.

Select AM tuner step

Before you start to search for AM radio stations, you can select how much hertz per step in AM radio searching.

3 Touch [AM Grip] repeatedly to switch between the options.

• [10k]: 10 kHz per step in AM radio searching.
• [9k]: 9 kHz per step in AM radio searching.

4 Press → to exit the menu.

Tune by frequency

1 Touch [FM] at the right lower corner of the screen repeatedly to select band.

2 Touch middle of the radio menu. The manual tune menu displays.

3 Touch the numbers to enter frequency. Touch •← to clear the last entered number. Touch •→ to go back to the previous menu. Touch •← to confirm the entered frequency. The radio station on the frequency is • broadcast.

Store radio stations in memory

You can store up to 6 stations in each band.

Store stations automatically

1 Touch 📄 to access radio option menu.

2 Touch [Auto Scan]

Auto search starts. The six strongest stations of the selected band are saved in preset channels 1-6 automatically.

Store stations manually

1 Tune to the preferred station.

If the station is not in the preset list, + displays on the lower line of the screen.

2 Touch the +.

The preset station list displays.

To navigate through all the preset stations, touch ▲/▼.

3 Touch one of the preset stations. →The station is preset.

Play with RDS

The RDS (Radio Data System) function operates only in areas with FM stations broadcasting RDS signals. If you tune to an RDS station, an RDS icon and the station name are displayed.

Activate AF/TA/REG/CT functions

AF (alternate frequency): • automatically searches for a different station when the tuner cannot get a good reception.

TA (traffic announcement): allows • you to receive traffic announcements automatically no matter what source you are listening to.

• PTY (program type): search for stations broadcasting in the selected category. Help you to find certain type of programs.

EON (Enhanced Other Networks) local stations 'break into' a national station's broadcast for the duration of a Traffic Announcement.

- CT (clock time): synchronizes the clock of the unit with that on the RDS station.

Search for an RDS station by PTY information

1 Touch [PTY] under RDS menu.

→ The PTY menu displays.

2 Touch ▲/▼ to navigate through all the types.

3 Select a program type by touch on it. → The unit starts to search for the selected type of stations.

Tune to a preset station

1 Select the band with preset stations.

Load discs

You can play video, audio or images stored on the following discs:

1 Press ▲ to open the front panel.
2 Insert the disc into the disc slot with label side facing up.

Play starts automatically.

Remove the USB device

1 Press ① to turn off the unit.

Insert SDHC card

Remove the SDHC card

1 Press ① to turn off the unit.
2 Press the card until you hear a click sound. The card is now disengaged.

Play/Pause

1 Once the disc, USB or SDHC card is inserted, play starts automatically.

For video discs, if a menu appears: • touch ▲/▼ to navigate through the menu, then touch on an item to start play.

- For disc/USB/SD card that contain MP3s, WMAs, or JPEGs: touch ▲/▼ to navigate through the tracks/pictures, then touch on an item to start play.

2 To pause, touch.

• To resume play, touch ▶.

Search for a folder

1 Touch ↩ to return to playlist menu.

Search within a track

Repeat

You can play tracks, folders, all files or certain section within one track repeatedly.

1 During play, touch to display option menu.

• repeatedly to switch among different repeat modes.
• A-B to repeat play certain section within one track.

Random play

You can play tracks/files in random order.

1 During play, press SHUFF on the remote control repeatedly to select different random play modes.

Select audio language

For video discs that contain two or more audio channels.

1 During play, touch to display option menu.

2 Touch ▶ to select audio channel.

Select subtitle language

For DVD or DivX discs that contain two or more subtitle languages.

1 During play, touch to display option menu.
2 Touch [Subtitle] to select a language. The selected language is displayed.

Tip

- You may also press SUBTITLE on the remote control repeatedly to select subtitle language.

Change view angle

Some DVDs contain alternate scenes, such as scenes recorded from different camera angles. For such DVDs, you can select from the available alternate scenes.

1 During play, press ANGLE on the remote control repeatedly to select different view angles.

Rotate pictures

1 During viewing pictures, touch to display option menu.
2 Touch o to rotate the picture.

Zoom

You can zoom in pictures for a close view.

1 During video play or picture view, touch 📄 to display option menu.
2 Touch ♿ repeatedly to zoom in/out the picture.
3 Touch , , or to pan through the enlarged picture.

Select slide show duration

1 During viewing pictures, touch to display option menu.
2 Touch [Duration] repeatedly to select:

• [Duration]: [Fast]
• [Duration]: [Normal]
• [Duration]: [Slow]

6 Play with Bluetooth device

You can make or receive phone calls with Bluetooth-enabled phones through the unit. You can also listen to music from a Bluetooth-enabled device.

Pair the Bluetooth-enabled devices

The first time you connect your Bluetooth device to the unit, you need to pair the device to the unit. Pairing needs only to be done once. You can pair up to eight devices.

Note

The operational range between this unit and a Bluetooth device is approximately 10 meters (30 feet).
- Before you connect a Bluetooth device to this unit, familiarize yourself with the Bluetooth capabilities of the device.
- Compatibility with all Bluetooth devices is not guaranteed.
- Any obstacle between this unit and a Bluetooth device can reduce the operational range.
- Keep this unit away from any other electronic device that may cause interference.

1 Turn on the Bluetooth function on your device.
2 Search for Bluetooth device with your device.
3 Select "CED370" in the pairing list.
4 Enter default password "0000". if pairing succeeds. name of the paired device displays on the panel.

Disconnect Bluetooth devices

1 To disconnect one device, touch icon).

(green icon) displays.

Tip

The device will also be disconnected when the device is moved beyond the operational range.

• If you want to reconnect the device to the unit, place it within the operational range.
• If you do not want to reconnect the device to the unit automatically, touch 📋 [Auto Connect] until [Off] displays. For details, see the “Adjust Bluetooth settings” section.

Tip

If the paired device is moved beyond the operational range, when it is brought back, please check if the device is still connected with the system:

If timed a rong on disptayed.
If connection is lost, (green icon) is displayed. Follow the instruction above to pair the device with the system again.

Make a call

1 Pair the phone with the unit.
2 Touch ⬆>[Media]>[BT] to access phone call menu.

3 Touch ▲/▼ to navigate through the options under this menu:

• [Quick dial]
• [Dialled calls]
• [Received calls]
• [Missed calls]

4 Touch on an option to access all the calls or numbers under this option.
5 Touch on a call.

The unit starts to dial the number of the selected call.

Or touch 📄 to enter number directly, then touch green 🔔 to dial.

Receive call

By default, all incoming calls are received automatically.

1 If there is incoming call, [Incoming call...] flashes on the screen. Speak into the Bluetooth microphone.

2 When conversation ends, touch (red) to terminate the call.

Tip

You can select to receive calls manually by set [Auto Answer] to [Off] status.

Switch phone call to the mobile

If you do not want your passenger to hear your incoming call, you can switch the call to the mobile.

1 During talking, touch The voice is transferred from the unit's loudspeaker to the mobile phone.

Listen to music from Bluetooth device

If the connected Bluetooth device supports Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), you can listen to the music stored on the device through the unit. If the device also supports Audio Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) profile, you can use the control on the unit or its remote control to play music stored on the device.

1 Pair your device with the unit.
2 Start play music via your device. If your device support AVRCP.
1 Touch ⬆>[Media]>[BT] to access Bluetooth menu. The Bluetooth menu displays.
2 Touch 📂 Music play menu displays.

3 Touch ▶ to start play.

Adjust Bluetooth settings

You can change below Bluetooth settings:

• [Password]: set paring code
• [BT]: turn on or off "Bluetooth" function
- [Auto Connect]: turn on or off "Auto connect" function
• [Auto Answer]: turn on or off "Auto answer" function

1 In Bluetooth menu, touch . ☑ The option menu displays.

2 Touch on the option to change the setting.

Adjut fader/balance

You can also adjust the front and rear speaker balance, the left and right speaker balance, and subwoofer settings.

1 Under Equalizer setting menu, touch . ▶Balance options display: →

2 Touch ▲ or ▼ to select subwoofer volume.

- [Subwoofer] subwoofer volume: 0 to 24.

3 Touch F, R, L, or R to adjust fader/balance value.

- [Fad] fader range: +24 to -24. (F = front speaker, R = rear speaker)

• [Bal] balance range: -24 to +24. (L = left speaker, R = right speaker)

4 Touch ↩to exit the menu.

Set Dynamic Bass Boost (DBB)

1 Under sound setting menu, touch [DBB] to turn on/off the setting.

9 Others

Listen to other devices

You can connect an external audio/video device to the unit.

1 Connect the device to the unit with the supplied MP3-Link cable.

2 Touch ⬆>[Media]>[MP3-LINK]. MP3-Link screen displays.

3 Begin play on the device (see the device instructions).

Reset

When the unit hangs up, you can reset it.

1 Press RESET with a ball-point pen or similar tool.

When the unit is reset, all the settings restore to the factory settings.

Remove the unit

To repair, replace fuse, or replace the unit with another car audio, remove it from the dashboard.

1 Take off the trim plate.
2 Screw off the four (4) screws on the left/right side of the unit.
3 Pull the unit out from the dashboard.

Replace fuse

If there is no power, the fuse may be damaged and need to be replaced.

1 Take out the unit from dashboard.
2 Check the electric connection.
3 Buy a fuse that matches the voltage of the damaged fuse (15A)
4 Replace the fuse.

If the fuse gets damaged immediately after it has been replaced, there may be an internal malfunction. In such case, consult your Philips dealer.

11 Troubleshooting

Caution

- Never remove the casing of this apparatus.

To keep the warranty valid, never try to repair the system yourself.

If you encounter problems when using this apparatus, check the following points before requesting service. If the problem remains unsolved, go to the Philips web site (www.philips.com/support). When you contact Philips, ensure that your apparatus is nearby and the model number and serial number are available.

No power

Car engine has not been started. Start • the car engine.

• Connections is incorrect.
• Fuse has been damaged. Replace fuse.

No sound

• Volume is too low. Adjust volume.
• Speaker connections is incorrect.

Disc does not play

• Disc is upside down. Ensure the printed side is upwards.
• Disc is dirty. Clean the disc with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. Wipe the disc outwards from the center.
  • Disc is defective. Try another disc.
  • incompatible disc is used. Try another disc.
  • Disc rating exceeds the restrict setting. Change the rating settings to lower one.
  • Disc region code is not compatible with the unit. Use disc with proper region code.

No image

- Parking brake wire connection is incorrect. Check the parking wiring.

Image flashes or distorted

• Video DVD settings do not match with the DVD. Adjust video DVD settings.

Video connection is improper. Check the connections.

Noise in broadcasts.

Signals are too weak. Select other stations with stronger signals. Check the connection of the car antenna. Change broadcast from stereo to mono.

Preset stations lost.

Battery cable is not correctly connected. Connect the battery cable to the terminal that is always live.

Fuse is broken

The Fuse type is incorrect. Replace it with a 15A fuse. Speaker wire or power wire is grounded. Check the connections.

Display show ERR-12

USB data error. Check the USB device. •

About Bluetooth device

Music playback is unavailable on the system even after successful Bluetooth connection.

The device cannot be used with the • system to play music.

The audio quality is poor after connection with a Bluetooth-enabled device.

The Bluetooth reception is poor. Move the device closer to the system or remove any obstacle between the device and the system.

Cannot connect with the system.

The device does not support the profiles - required for the system.

• The Bluetooth function of the device is not enabled. Refer to the user manual of the device for how to enable the function.
  • The system is not in the pairing mode.
• The system is already connected with another Bluetooth-enabled device. Disconnect that device or all other connected devices and then try again.

The paired mobile phone connects and disconnects constantly.

The Bluetooth reception is poor. Move the mobile phone closer to the system or remove any obstacle between the mobile phone and the system.

Some mobile phones may connect and disconnect constantly when you make or end calls. This does not indicate any malfunction of the system.

For some mobile phones, the Bluetooth • connection may be deactivated automatically as a power-saving feature.

Bite rate

The max data transfer through the USB port.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth® is a short-rang wireless protocol that is meant to allow mobile devices to share information and applications without the worry of cables or interface incompatibilities.

The name refers to a Viking King who unified Denmark. Operate at 2.4GHz. For more information, see www.bluetooth.com.

M

MMC

MultimediaCard. A type of memory card with a flash memory.

MP3

A file format with a sound data compression system. MP3 is the abbreviation of Motion Picture Experts Group 1 (or MPEG-1) Audio Layer 3. With the MP3 format, one CD-R or CD-RW can contain about 10 times more data than a regular CD.

R

Region code

A system that allows discs to be played only in the region designated. This unit only plays discs that have compatible region codes. You can find the region code of your unit on the product label. Some discs are compatible with more than one region (or ALL regions.)

S

SD

Secure Digital. A type of memory card with a flash memory.

SDHC

Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) is a type of flash memory card based on the SDA 2.00 specification. The SDA 2.00 specification enables SD cards to reach higher capacities from 4GB to 32GB, and growing.

W

WMA (Windows Media Audio)

An audio format owned by Microsoft, is a part of Microsoft Windows Media technology. Includes Microsoft Digital Rights Management tools, Windows Media Video encoding technology, and Windows Media Audio encoding technology.
