Frequently Asked Questions - MegaView 61 LOGILINK

How to install the MegaView 61 audio/video extender?
Connect the HDMI cable from your source (Blu-ray player, console, etc.) to the input of the extender. Connect the output of the extender to your display using an HDMI cable. Power the extender via the included power adapter or a USB port. Turn on your devices: the image should appear automatically.
What maximum resolution can I use with this extender?
The MegaView 61 supports a maximum resolution of 1080p Full HD (1920x1080). It is compatible with lower resolutions like 720p and 480p.
What is the maximum transmission distance?
With a standard HDMI cable, the transmission distance can reach 30 meters. Beyond that, an amplifier or higher quality cable may be necessary.
Is the extender compatible with HDCP?
Yes, this model supports HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), allowing playback of protected content (Blu-ray, streaming) without issues.
Why is my screen not showing any image?
Check that all cables are properly connected and that the extender is powered. Ensure the source and display are turned on and set to the correct input. Test with a shorter HDMI cable to rule out a cable issue.
Can I use an HDMI cable longer than 30 meters?
No, the extender is not designed to exceed 30 meters with a standard cable. For longer distances, use an HDMI repeater or a fiber optic cable.
How to power the extender?
You can use the included power adapter (5V DC) or a standard USB port. Plug the micro-USB cable into the extender and connect the other end to a USB power source.
Does the extender work with a game console?
Yes, it is compatible with all consoles with an HDMI output (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch). Make sure the console resolution is set to 1080p or lower.
What to do if the image flickers or has interference?
This may be due to a poor quality or too long HDMI cable. Try a different shorter cable of good quality. Keep the cable away from interference sources (motors, transformers). Also check that the power supply is stable.
Is the extender compatible with surround sound formats (Dolby Digital, DTS)?
Yes, the MegaView 61 transmits digital audio signal losslessly, including Dolby Digital and DTS formats up to 5.1 channels.

1. INTRODUCTION

Congratulations on your purchase of the Marmitek MegaView60/61! The MegaView60/61 enables you to easily extend an HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) signal or DVI (Digital Visual Interface) over two CAT5e/6 cables. Maximum CAT5e/6 cable length is 30-60 metres for 1080p resolution and 60-100 metres for 480p resolution. Appliances connected to this may include an HD set-top box, media center PC, HD-media player, blu-ray disk player or game console.

The MegaView61 has a built-in “infrared return channel”, which allows you to operate the connected device from another room or through closed cabinet doors using your own remote control.

All Marmitek products are manufactured with the utmost precision and are of high quality. Please read this manual carefully and follow the instructions to enjoy the possibilities of this product optimally.

3. CAT5E/CAT6 CABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • UTP-, FTP- or STP-cable
  • 24AWG or lower
  • Solid twisted pair
    • 100 ohm at 1MHz
  • RJ-45 jack according to EIA/TIA T568B standard
Instead of CAT5e cable, CAT6 cable may also be applied (this offers better quality). Use a 'solid twisted pair CAT-5e or CAT-6 cable' in order to optimise transfer quality.

In order to ensure that the system is working properly you are advised to check the set-up with short CAT-5e/6 cable lengths first.

  1. Switch off all appliances before you start connecting.
  2. Connect the HDMI source (HD-DVD player, blu-ray disc player, HD set-top box, game console, etc.) to the MegaView60/61 transmitter [1], using an HDMI cable (not provided).
  3. Connect the MegaView60/61 receiver to the appliance shown [2] (e.g. HDTV or projector), using an HDMI cable (not provided).
  4. Use two CAT5e/6 Ethernet cables to connect the MegaView60/61 transmitter with the MegaView60/61 receiver [3&4].

*The RJ45 plug on these cables must be connected according to EIA/TIA T568B standard, see attachment page 39. Make sure that the CAT5e/6 cable and the transmitter and receiver connections (CAT5e-1 en CAT5e-2) correspond to one another.

  1. Connect the power adapter [5] to the 'DC/5V' connection on the MegaView60/61 receiver (HDMI Receiver) and plug the adapter into a socket.

INSTALLATION IR (INFRARED) RETURN (MEGAVIEW61 ONLY)

  1. Position the MegaView61 transmitter at an accessible location behind or next to your HDMI devices and close to a wall socket. Please take into account the cable length of the IR LEDs and make sure that the connections remain accessible.

  2. Plug the required IR Extender cable (with the 2 IR LEDs) [6] into the MegaView61 transmitter.

  3. Self-adhesive foil has been supplied with the IR LEDs. This allows you to attach the IR LEDs to the IR sensor of your A/V device.

  4. Test the position and operation of the IR LEDs before sticking them definitively to the IR sensor of your A/V device.
  5. In case you want to operate another device besides your A/V device (of which you are transmitting the signal), you may use the second IR LED for this.
  6. If you are only using one of the two IR LEDs, please leave the second IR LED unused. Never remove it from the extender cable!

  7. Now connect the IR Receiver [7] to the MegaView61 receiver.

  8. Position the supplied IR receiver in sight of your infrared remote control and as little as possible in the proximity of potential sources of interference such as direct sunlight, strip light, energy saving bulbs, etc. By using the supplied self-adhesive strip, placement is possible almost everywhere. Please experiment with the right positioning before definite attachment of the IR receiver.

  9. Attention! The adhesive strip may cause discolouration on certain surfaces or leave behind traces of glue.

  10. Connect the power adapter [5] to the "POWER" socket of the MegaView61 receiver and plug the adapter into a wall socket.

5. USAGE

  1. Switch on the HDMI source (e.g. HD set-top box or multi media PC).
  2. Switch on the display device (for instance HDTV or projector) and select the appropriate input. Usually you will do this by pressing the A/V or EXT button of your remote control.
  3. You will receive images from the connected A/V device immediately.
  4. With the MegaView61 you may now also operate the connected device from this room using your own remote control, by pointing it at the IR receiver.

6. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Bad (or no) image and sound

  • Ensure that the CAT5e/6 cables are connected correctly between the MegaView60/61 transmitter and receiver (CAT5e-1 to CAT5e-1 and CAT5e-2 to CAT5e-2).
  • Check if the A/V device is switched on.
  • Use only CAT5e/CAT6 cable as specified in chapter 3 (CAT5e Cable Requirements).
  • Check if the CAT5e/CAT6 cable provides a solid connection (no cable faults).
  • Check if the RJ-45 has been connected according to the EIA/TIA T568B standard. Please refer to attachment page 39
  • Please ensure that the maximum cable length is not exceeded.
    • Install your system as far away from any RF sources (wireless devices) as possible.
  • Set a low resolution on your HDMI source. The CAT5e/6 cable used probably cannot deal with the higher resolution bandwidth.

Bad (or no) infrared return signal (MegaView61)

  • IR Receivers have a reception sensitivity of approx. 6 meters at a 90 degrees angle of aperture. Range is also dependent on the remote control used.
  • Check if the power adapter has been connected to the MegaView61 transmitter
  • Please ensure that the IR receiver and the IR extender cable have been connected properly and that they are fully plugged in.
  • Please ensure that the LEDs of the IR extender cable are placed correctly to the infrared sensor of the A/V device, this has to be done very precisely. The exact position can be found easily by shining at it with a flashlight.

If none of the options above offers the solution, your remote control probably uses a different infrared frequency. Instead of the standard 38 kHz receiver you can also order a 56 kHz receiver (art. no. 09883).
