Frequently Asked Questions - KH 1023 ELECTRIC KETTLE SILVERCREST

What is the capacity of the SILVERCREST KH 1023 kettle?
The kettle has a capacity of approximately 1.7 liters between the MIN and MAX marks. Never exceed the MAX mark to avoid overflowing.
How to descale the kettle?
Use a descaling product suitable for food containers (e.g., descaling agent for coffee makers). Follow the product instructions. You can also soak the pouring filter in a water-vinegar solution (6:1) for a few hours, then rinse thoroughly.
Can I heat liquids other than water?
No, the kettle is designed only for heating drinking water. Do not use it with milk, soups, or other liquids, as this could damage it and void the warranty.
What to do if the kettle does not turn off automatically?
Make sure the lid is properly closed. The automatic shut-off only works with the lid in place. If the problem persists, check that the bottom of the kettle and the base are dry. If the fault continues, contact customer service.
How to clean the pouring filter?
Remove the lid, then pull the pouring filter inward to remove it. Wash it with clean water and a soft cloth. In case of limescale deposits, soak it in a vinegar solution. Replace it by pressing firmly after drying.
Why does the kettle turn off before boiling?
This may be due to a lack of water (below the MIN mark) or excessive limescale buildup. Descale the appliance. If the problem persists, the thermostat may be defective; contact customer service.
Can I use the kettle without the original base?
No, use only the provided base. The base contains specific electrical connections. Using another base can be dangerous and damage the appliance.
How to avoid burns during use?
Never open the lid while boiling. Hot steam escapes from the kettle. Place it on a stable and level surface. Do not touch hot metal parts. Always unplug before lifting the kettle from the base.
What to do if the power cord is damaged?
Do not use the appliance. Have the cord replaced by a qualified professional or after-sales service. Do not attempt to repair it yourself.
Is the kettle under warranty?
Yes, the SILVERCREST KH 1023 kettle comes with a 3-year warranty from the date of purchase. Keep the receipt. The warranty covers material and manufacturing defects, but not normal wear, accidental damage, or misuse.

Read the operating instructions carefully before using the appliance for the first time and preserve this booklet for later reference. Pass the manual on to whomsoever might acquire the appliance at a later date.

Intended Use

This appliance is intended for the boiling-up of water in domestic households. It is not intended for use with other liquids or for commercial applications.

Technical Data

Voltage: 230V /50Hz

Power consumption: 2200 W

① In older electrical installations, the building fuse (12A) may be activated due to the high power consumption.

Safety instructions

To avoid potentially fatal injury through electric shock:

  • Ensure that the base with the electrical connections does not come into contact with water! Ensure that the base is completely dry before use, especially if it has been accidentally moistened.
  • Use the water boiler only with the supplied base.
  • Ensure that the power cable never becomes wet or damp during operation. Lay the cable such that it cannot get clamped or otherwise damaged.
  • Arrange for defective plugs and/or cables to be replaced at once by qualified technicians or our Customer Service Department.

  • Always remove the plug from the mains power socket after use. Switching the appliance off is not sufficient, because the appliance is under power for as long as the plug is connected to the mains power socket.

To avoid burns and other injuries:

Always heat water with the lid on, otherwise the automatic switch-off does not function correctly. Boiling water could then spray out over the rim.
- Hot steam clouds may be released. Additionally, the kettle becomes very hot during use.
- Ensure that the appliance is standing securely and vertically before switching it on. Boiling water can cause an unstable kettle to fall over.
- This appliance is not intended for use by individuals (including children) with restricted physical, physiological or intellectual abilities or deficiencies in experience and/or knowledge unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety or receive from this person instruction in how the appliance is to be used.
Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
- Never place the kettle on hotplates or similar to heat water up. Use the kettle only with the supplied base!
- Do not use an external timing switch or a separate remote control system to operate the appliance.

- the power cable been completely unwound from the holder on the bottom of the appliance, and that...
- all packaging materials have been removed from the appliance.
- Fill the appliance with water up to the MAX mark and let it come to a full boil once - as described in the next section.
- Pour this water away after the water has been boiled.
- Rinse the water boiler out with clear water.
- Fill the appliance with water once again up to the MAX marking on the scale ③ and then bring it to the boil. When done, pour this water away also.

Boiling water

Danger

Never place the electrical base 5 adjacent to water - a potentially fatal risk!

  • Lift the kettle off of the base when filling it!
  • Remove the lid ② in that you pull it upwards.
  • Hold the kettle upright while filling it. Only in this way can you correctly read the markings on the scale 3.

Fill the kettle ...

  • at least to the MIN mark, so that the device does not overheat,
  • no higher than the MAX mark, so that no boiling water spills out.
  • First close the lid ②...
and then place the kettle on the base 5 such that it is standing absolutely upright on the base 5.
  • Now insert the plug into the mains power socket ...
and press the ON/OFF switch 4 downwards until it engages.
  • The pilot lamp integrated into the ON/OFF switch 4 indicates that the appliance is now heating the water up.
  • The appliance switches itself off and the pilot lamp goes out as soon as the water is on the boil. The ON/OFF switch 4 springs upwards.

Warning

Remove the plug from the mains power socket before you lift the kettle from its base 5. This prevents causing a potential short circuit by water possibly spilling out of the carafe and falling onto live electrical connections in the base 5.

Injury hazard

For safety reasons, the lid 2 should not be opened while the water is boiling or is very hot.

There is a risk of receiving severe scalds.
