ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS

ZANUSSI TH500W - ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS - 1

This appliance must be earthed

Electrical Requirements

Any permanent electrical installation must comply with the latest I.E.E. Regulations and local Electricity Board regulations. For your own safety this should be undertaken by a qualified electrician e.g. your local Electricity Board, or a contractor who is on the roll of the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC).

Electrical Connection

Before connecting to the mains supply ensure that the mains voltage corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate inside the cooker hood.

This appliance is fitted with a 3 core mains cable and must be permanently connected to the electricity supply via a double-pole switch having 3mm minimum contact gap on each pole. A Switched Fuse Connection Unit to BS1363 Part 4, fitted with a 3 Amp fuse, is a recommended mains supply connection accessory to ensure compliance with the Safety Requirements applicable to fixed wiring instructions.

This appliance conforms to BS 800: 1988 and EEC Directive No. 78 308 regarding suppression of radio and television interference.

INSTALLING THE COOKER HOOD

Please ensure that when the appliance is installed it is easily accessible to an engineer in the event of a breakdown.

ZANUSSI TH500W - INSTALLING THE COOKER HOOD - 1

All installations must comply with the local authorities requirements for the discharge of exhaust air.

Incorrect installation may affect the safety of this cooker hood.

Installation Requirements

ZANUSSI TH500W - Installation Requirements - 1

Before installation check the wall to which the cooker hood is to be fitted for electric cables, water pipes or gas.

Ducting

The ducting must be fire retardant 125mm (5ins) in diameter and the length should be nomore than:

3 metres with one 90° bend

2 metres with two 90° bends

Bends of more than 90^ will reduce the efficiency of the hood and reduce the airflow.

Clearance Height

The cooker hood is designed to be fitted over a cooking appliance at the clearance heights stated, providing the maximum output of the appliance beneath does not exceed the maximums quoted in the Technical Specifications.

If the output of the appliance below the cooker hood exceeds the maximum outputs quoted, please refer to the cooker manufacturer's installation instructions.

Clearance Height

A minimum clearance height of 650mm (25 ^1/2 ) is required when installed above a built-in electric hob, or 700mm ( 27^1/2 ) when installed above a built-in gas hob.

A minimum clearance height of 685mm (27") is required when installed above a slot-in electric oven, or 787mm (30 ^1/2 ") when installed above a slot-in gas oven.

When installed between adjoining wall cabinets, the wall cabinets must not overhang the hob and the distance between the underside of the cabinet and the worktop must be 450mm. If the height of the wall cabinet is less than 450mm, a gap of 50mm must be maintained either side of the hob.

ZANUSSI TH500W - Clearance Height - 2

This cooker hood must not be installed above a cooking appliance with a high level grill.

Unpacking

Before unpacking the cooker hood position the carton with the arrows pointing upwards as illustrated on the carton.

Positioning

This cooker hood is designed to be fitted into a cabinet which should have a minimum depth 28 cm and width 60 cm.

Venting

The hood is more effective when used in the extraction setting (ducted to the outside).

Venting kits maybe purchased through your retailer or DIY store, and must be ducted to an outside vent of 100mm (4") minimum.

ZANUSSI TH500W - Venting - 1

The ducting used must be manufactured from fire retardant material which should conform to the relevant British Standard or DIN4102-B1.

When the hood is ducted externally the charcoal filter must be removed and the slider control must be in the ducting position.

Insert the ducting spigot into the aperture on the top of the cooker hood casing.

Fitting the Wall Cabinet

If it is necessary to fix the kitchen cabinet to a hollow construction plaster or partition board structure then it must be sufficiently reinforced to be strong enough to support the weight of the cooker hood.

Wall Cabinet Preparation

Position the cooker hood upside down, ensuring the cooker hood is supported. Open the visor and remove the two metal grease filter cassettes (see maintenance and cleaning section).

Mark the position for the cut-out for the cooker hood on the underside of the kitchen cabinet. The cut-out should measure, lenght 503 mm by depth 162 mm.

Mark the position for the cut-out for the ducting on the top of the kitchen cabinet ensuring that the centre of the hole aligns with the centre of the ducting spigot.

A pad saw or similar cutter will be required to cut the rectangular hole for the cooker hood and the circular hole for the ducting spigot.

Before inserting the cooker hood inside the cabinet ensure a hole has been provided to route the mains cable.

ZANUSSI TH500W - Wall Cabinet Preparation - 1

Securing the cooker hood to the wall cabinet

  1. Insert the upper casing of the cooker hood through the hole from the underside of the cabinet ensuring that the butterfly bracket screws have been loosened sufficiently to allow the wings to be folded back.
  2. Tighten the butterfly bracket screws, by rotating the screws clockwise.
  3. If further alignment of the cooker hood is required the lower section of the casing can be adjusted horizontally, backwards and forwards.

ZANUSSI TH500W - Securing the cooker hood to the wall cabinet - 4

To adjust the lower casing

  1. Pull out the visor.
  2. Loosen the two screws immediately in front and behind the butterfly bracket screws.
  3. Once the screws have been loosened the lower section of the hood can be moved backward and forward.

This will allow the alignment of the decor trim with the wall cabinet above.

ZANUSSI TH500W - To adjust the lower casing - 1

Care should be taken when carrying out the above operation not to loosen the screws too far, and to ensure that the casing is supported at all times.

Fitting the Control Panel

The control panel support should be located on the right hand side in the channel on the underside of the hood.

Using the screws provided secure the control box support into the pre-drilled hole.

Clearance Height

The cooker hood can be concealed behind a decor panel by removing the factory fitted front strip and fitting a length of lighting pelmet.

ZANUSSI TH500W - Clearance Height - 1

To remove the front strip

  1. Open the visor.
  2. Remove the three screws from the reverse side.
  3. Drill the new front strip ensuring the holes are aligned correctly.
  4. Fix the new front strip with the screws provided.
