Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

1) Work area safety

a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2) Electrical safety

a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

3) Personal safety

a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries. c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents. d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury. e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

4) Power tool use and care

a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. 5) Battery tool use and care

a) Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack. b) Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire. c) When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire. d) Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

6) Service

a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. Cutting accessory and fasteners contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock. f Use appropriate detectors to determine if utility lines are hidden in the work area or call the local utility company for assistance. Contact with electric lines can lead to fire and electric shock. Damaging a gas line can lead to explosion. Penetrating a water line causes property damage or may cause an electric shock. f Switch off the power tool immediately when the tool insert jams. Be prepared for high reaction torque that can cause kickback. The tool insert jams when: — the power tool is subject to overload or — it becomes wedged in the workpiece. f Hold the machine with a firm grip. High reaction torque can briefly occur while driving in and loosening screws. f Secure the workpiece. A workpiece clamped with clamping devices or in a vice is held more secure than by hand. f Keep your workplace clean. Blends of materials are particularly dangerous. Dust from light alloys can burn or explode. f Always wait until the machine has come to a complete stop before placing it down. The tool insert can jam and lead to loss of control over the power tool. Unintentional actuation of the On/Off switch can lead to injuries. f Do not open the battery. Danger of short-circuiting. Protect the power tool against heat, e. g., also against continuous sun irradiation and fire. There is danger of explosion. f In case of damage and improper use of the battery, vapours may be emitted. Provide for fresh air and seek medical help in case of complaints. The vapours can irritate the respiratory system. f When the battery is defective, liquid can escape and come into contact with adjacent components. Check any parts concerned. Clean such parts or replace them, if required. Safety Warnings for battery chargers Keep the battery charger away from rain or moisture. Penetration of water in the battery charger increases the risk of an electric shock. f Do not charge other batteries. The battery charger is suitable only for charging Bosch lithium ion batteries within the listed voltage range. Otherwise there is danger of fire and explosion. f Keep the battery charger clean. If damage is detected, do not use the battery charger. Never open the battery charger yourself. Have repairs performed only by a qualified technician and only using original spare parts. Damaged battery chargers, cables and plugs increase the risk of an electric shock. f Do not operate the battery charger on easily inflammable surfaces (e. g., paper, textiles, etc.) or surroundings. The heating of the battery charger during the charging process can pose a fire hazard. Products sold in GB only: Your product is fitted with an BS 1363/A approved electric plug with internal fuse (ASTA approved to BS 1362). If the plug is not suitable for your socket outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted in its place by an authorised customer service agent. The replacement plug should have the same fuse rating as the original plug. Typically the A-weighted sound pressure level of the product is less than 70 dB(A). Uncertainty K =3 dB. The noise level when working can exceed 80 dB(A). Wear hearing protection! Vibration total values (triax vector sum) determined according to EN 60745: Drilling into metal: Vibration emission value ah <2.5 m/s2, Uncertainty K =1.5 m/s2, Screwdriving: Vibration emission value ah <2.5 m/s2, Uncertainty K =1.5 m/s2. The vibration emission level given in this information sheet has been measured in accordance with a standardised test given in EN 60745 and may be used to compare one tool with another. It may be used for a preliminary assessment of exposure. The declared vibration emission level represents the main applications of the tool. However if the tool is used for different applications, with different accessories or poorly maintained, the vibration emission may differ. This may significantly increase the exposure level over the total working period. The supplied battery charger is designed for the Lithium-Ion battery in your machine. The voltage of the power supply must correspond with the data given on the nameplate of the battery charger. Battery chargers marked with 230 V can also be operated with 220 V. Note: The battery is supplied partially charged. To ensure full capacity of the battery, completely charge the battery in the battery charger before using your power tool for the first time. The lithium ion battery can be charged at any time without reducing its service life. Interrupting the charging procedure does not damage the battery. The Li-ion battery is protected against deep discharging by the “Electronic Cell Protection (ECP)”. When the battery is empty, the machine is switched off by means of a protective circuit: The inserted tool no longer rotates. Do not continue to press the On/Off switch after the machine has been automatically switched off. The battery can be damaged. WARNING The charging procedure starts as soon as the main plug of the battery charger is inserted into the socket and the cordless screwdriver is afterwards placed on the battery charger 10. The battery charge-control indicator 5 indicates the charging progress. During the charging procedure, the indicator flashes green. The battery is fully charged when the indicator lights up green continuously. During the charging procedure, the handle of the machine warms up. This is normal. Observe the notes for disposal. Changing the Tool (see figure B) f Before any work on the machine (e. g., maintenance, tool change, etc.) as well as during transport and storage, set the rotational direction switch to the centre position. Unintentional actuation of the On/Off switch can lead to injuries. The drill spindle is locked when the On/Off switch 9 is not pressed. This makes quick, convenient and easy changing of the tool in the drill chuck possible. Open the keyless chuck 2 by turning in rotation direction n, until the tool can be inserted. Insert the tool. Firmly tighten the collar of the keyless chuck 2 by hand in rotation direction o until the locking action (“click”) is heard. This automatically locks the chuck. The locking is released again to remove the tool when the collar is turned in the opposite direction. Replacing the Drill Chuck (see figures C–E) f Before any work on the machine (e. g., maintenance, tool change, etc.) as well as during transport and storage, set the rotational direction switch to the centre position. Unintentional actuation of the On/Off switch can lead to injuries. The keyless chuck 2 is secured with a securing screw 12 against unintentional loosening from the drill spindle. Please note that the securing screw has a left-hand thread. If the securing screw 12 is seated tightly, apply a screwdriver to the screw head and loosen the securing screw by giving a blow onto the handle of the screwdriver. Removing the Drill Chuck (see figure D) Clamp the short end of an Allen key 13 into the keyless chuck 2. Place the machine on a stable surface (e. g. a workbench). Hold the machine firmly and loosen the keyless chuck 2 by turning the Allen key 13 in rotation direction n. Loosen a tight-seated keyless chuck by giving the long end of the Allen key 13 a light blow. Remove the Allen key from the keyless chuck and completely unscrew the keyless chuck. Mounting the Drill Chuck (see figure E) The keyless chuck is mounted in reverse order. Note: After mounting the keyless chuck, screw the securing screw 12 in again. The drill chuck must be tightened with a tightening torque of approx. 17–23 Nm. Dust/Chip Extraction f Dusts from materials such as lead-containing coatings, some wood types, minerals and metal can be harmful to one’s health. Touching or breathing-in the dusts can cause allergic reactions and/or lead to respiratory infections of the user or bystanders. 2 609 003 652 | (5.2.09) Bosch Power Tools OBJ_BUCH-623-003.book Page 47 Thursday, February 5, 2009 4:00 PM English | 47 Certain dusts, such as oak or beech dust, are considered as carcinogenic, especially in connection with wood-treatment additives (chromate, wood preservative). Materials containing asbestos may only be worked by specialists. – Provide for good ventilation of the working place. – It is recommended to wear a P2 filter-class respirator. Observe the relevant regulations in your country for the materials to be worked. Operation Starting Operation Reversing the Rotational Direction (see figure F) The rotational direction switch 8 is used to reverse the rotational direction of the machine. However, this is not possible with the On/Off switch 9 actuated. Right Rotation: For drilling and driving in screws, push the rotational direction switch 8 left to the stop. The indicator for right rotation 4 lights up when the On/Off switch 9 is actuated and the motor is running. Left Rotation: For loosening or unscrewing screws, push the rotational direction switch 8 right to the stop. The indicator for left rotation 6 lights up when the On/Off switch 9 is actuated and the motor is running. With the correct setting, the insert tool is stopped as soon as the screw is screwed flush into the material or when the set torque is reached. Select a higher setting when driving out screws, or set to the symbol “Drilling”. Drilling The safety clutch is deactivated in the “Drilling” position. Switching On and Off To start the machine, press the On/Off switch 9 and keep it pressed. The light 7 is lit when the On/Off switch 9 is slightly or completely pressed in and permits to light the work area when the lighting conditions are bad. To switch off the machine, release the On/Off switch 9. Adjusting the Speed The speed of the switched on power tool can be variably adjusted, depending on how far the On/Off switch 9 is pressed. Light pressure on the On/Off switch 9 results in a low rotational speed. Further pressure on the switch results in an increase in speed. Fully automatic spindle locking (Auto-lock) When the On/Off switch 9 is not pressed, the drill spindle and thus the tool holder are locked. This enables screws to be screwed in, even when the battery is empty and allows for the machine to be used as a screwdriver. 2 609 003 652 | (5.2.09) Bosch Power Tools OBJ_BUCH-623-003.book Page 49 Thursday, February 5, 2009 4:00 PM English | 49 Run-on Brake When the On/Off switch 9 is released, the chuck brakes to a stop, thus preventing the run-on of the tool. When driving in screws, wait until the screw is screwed in flush with the material and then release the On/Off switch 9. By doing so, the head of the screw does not penetrate into the material. Battery Charge-control Indication The battery charge-control indicator 5 indicates the charge condition of the battery for a few seconds when the On/Off switch 9 is pressed half or fully through. It consists of a three-colour illuminating LED. LED Capacity Continuous lighting, green ≥ 70% Continuous lighting, yellow 30—70% Continuous lighting, red ≤ 30% Temperature Dependent Overload Protection When using as intended for, the power tool cannot be subject to overload. When the load is too high or the allowable battery temperature of 70 °C is exceeded, the electronic control switches off the power tool until the temperature is in the optimum temperature range again. In case of overload, the battery charge-control indicator 5 additionally flashes three times red and the “Power Light” 7 flashes three times white. When the battery is empty, the machine is switched off by means of a protective circuit: The inserted tool no longer rotates.
