SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

  1. All the precautions, in particular the safety ones, must be read with special attention, as they provide important information.

  2. POWER SUPPLY FROM MAINS (direct connection)

a. The mains voltage of the DMU 6100 (main unit) and the DPS 6202 (power supply unit) is sufficiently high to involve a risk of electrocution; therefore, never install or connect these products when their power cables are plugged in.
b. Before powering up, make sure that all the connections have been made correctly and the voltage of your mains corresponds to the voltage shown on the rating plate on the units, if not, please contact your RCF dealer.
c. The metallic parts of the DPS 6202 power supply unit are earthed by means of the power cable. An apparatus with CLASS I construction shall be connected to a mains socket outlet with a protective earthing connection.
d. Protect all power cables from damage; make sure these are positioned in a way that they cannot be stepped on or crushed by objects.
e. To prevent the risk of electric shock, never open the DPS 6202 power supply unit, as there are no parts inside that the user needs to access.

  1. Make sure that no objects or liquids can get into these products, as this may cause a short circuit. System components shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing. No objects filled with liquid (such as vases) and no naked sources (such as lighted candles) shall be placed on these devices.
  2. Never attempt to carry out any operations, modifications or repairs that are not expressly described in this manual.

Contact your authorized service centre or qualified personnel should any of the following occur:

• A power supply cable has been damaged.
- Objects or liquids have got in a product.
• A product has been subject to a heavy impact.

• A product does not function (or functions in an anomalous way).

  1. If these products are not used for a long period, disconnect the power cables.
  2. If a product begins emitting any strange odours or smoke, switch the system off immediately and disconnect the power supply cables.
  3. The terminals marked with the symbol are HAZARDOUS LIVE and their connection is to be made by an INSTRUCTED PERSON or the use of ready-made cables is required.

  4. Do not connect any equipment or accessories not foreseen.

For suspended installation, only use the dedicated anchoring points and do not try to hang components by using elements that are unsuitable or not specific for this purpose.

Also check the suitability of the support surface to which a product is anchored (wall, ceiling, structure, etc.), and the components used for attachment (screw anchors, screws, brackets not supplied by RCF etc.), which must guarantee the security of the system / installation over time, also considering, for example, the mechanical vibrations normally generated by transducers.

To prevent the risk of falling equipment, do not stack multiple products unless this possibility is specified in the user manual.

  1. RCF S.p.A. strongly recommends the system is only installed by professional qualified installers (or specialised firms) who can ensure correct installation and certify it according to the regulations in force.

The entire audio system must comply with the current standards and regulations regarding electrical systems.

  1. Supports and trolleys

The equipment should be only used on trolleys or supports, where necessary, that are recommended by the manufacturer. The equipment / support / trolley assembly must be moved with extreme caution. Sudden stops, excessive pushing force and uneven floors may cause the assembly to overturn.

  1. There are numerous mechanical and electrical factors to be considered when installing a professional audio system (in addition to those which are strictly acoustic, such as sound pressure, angles of coverage, frequency response, etc.).

  2. Hearing loss

Exposure to high sound levels can cause permanent hearing loss. The acoustic pressure level that leads to hearing loss is different from person to person and depends on the duration of exposure. To prevent potentially dangerous exposure to high levels of acoustic pressure, anyone who is exposed to these levels should use adequate protection devices.

When a transducer capable of producing high sound levels is being used, it is therefore necessary to wear ear plugs or protective earphones.

IMPORTANT NOTES

To prevent the occurrence of noise on microphone / line signal cables, use screened cables only and avoid putting them close to:

  • Equipment that produces high-intensity electromagnetic fields (for example, high power transformers)
  • Mains cables
  • Loudspeaker lines.

OPERATING PRECAUTIONS

  • Do not obstruct the ventilation grilles of the DMU 6100 main unit and the DPS 6202 power supply unit. Situate these products far from any heat sources and always ensure adequate air circulation around the ventilation grilles.
    • Never force the control elements (keys, knobs, etc.).
  • Do not use solvents, alcohol, benzene or other volatile substances to clean the external parts.

DESCRIPTION

The DEC 6104 board is to be installed into the DMU 6100 main unit of the RCF FORUM 6000 conferen system. This board adds features:

  • Up to 180 DMS 6410 microphone consoles on 6 lines (4 line outputs are on the DEC 6104 board; the further 120 consoles shall be powered by the DPS 6202 power supply unit.
  • USB port to connect the system to a PC, on which the FORUM 6000 control software (included) will be installed.
  • RS 485 port (alternative to the USB port) for long distance control (up to 1.2 km) of the system through the PC software.
  • Anti-feedback processor, useful to avoid feedbacks due to loudspeakers too close to microphone loudspeaker high volume and many open microphones at the same time.

The DPS 6202 power supply unit is strictly necessary for the console lines 3, 4, 5 and 6.

DEC 6104 BOARD INSTALLATION

IMPORTANT:

This manual section concerns qualified personnel only.

The following instructions are to be ignored by the user.

Warning about electrostatic sensitivity

You need to discharge any static electricity (by touching a metal part connected to the earth) before touching the board with your hands.

a. Remove both the DMU 6100 lid (unscrewing the 6 screws) and the rear blank panel (unscrewing the 2 screws that will be necessary to fix the DEC 6104 board).

b. Before proceeding, verify that the DMU 6100 motherboard part number is '330.32.388-REV.A'; if not, contact your RCF dealer. The part number is indicated on the motherboard, close to the RCF logo:

c. Look at the DMU 6100 motherboard to realise where the CPU, the flat cable connectors, the TP1 connector and the JP9 jumper (identified in the photo below) are.

d. The DMU 6100 motherboard CPU needs to be replaced:

  • Remove the motherboard CPU (with firmware 1.2), paying attention to its mark (indicated in the picture) that shows its proper installation side. Proceed cautiously, pulling the CPU on both its shorts sides and trying not to bend its pins.
  • Insert the new CPU (included with the DEC 6104 board, having firmware 1.4 or higher). After putting the CPU on its socket, push it down until it properly fits by applying an even pressure and keeping a finger under the DMU 6100 motherboard (to keep it firm).
    e. Set the JP9 jumper from 'AB' to 'BC'.

f. Connect the 2 flat cables (34 and 10 poles) of the DEC 6104 board to the respective DMU 6100 motherboard connectors

g. Connect the red / black wire pair of the DEC 6104 board to the DMU 6100 motherboard TP1 socket.

Note: the red wire is to be connected to the '+VS' terminal; the black wire to 'A-GND'.

h. Place the DEC 6104 board (its ports shall occupy the DMU 6100 rear panel part where the blank panel was) and firmly fix it through the 2 screws.

i. Connect the DEC 6104 board yellow/green wire to the internal earth terminal of the DMU 6100 main unit.

j. Refit the DMU 6100 lid and firmly fix it through the 6 screws.

i The DEC 6104 board JP1 jumper is initially set to 'USB'. Should it be necessary to use the RS 485 port, the JP1 jumper is to be set to 'RS485' (note: this setting entails the USB port disabling).

The DEC 6104 board has an anti-feedback processor useful to reduce possible uncontrolled feedbacks of the audio signal (sound loops that cause annoying whistles) due to loudspeakers too close to microphones, loudspeaker high volume and many open microphones at the same time. After installing the DEC 6104 board, the anti-feedback processor is already inserted in the audio path of the DMU 6100 central unit 'MAIN OUT'.

The anti-feedback processor is to be enabled / set by editing the respective configuration parameter of the DMU 6100 main unit (see the next manual section 'Anti-feedback processor setting').

The anti-feedback processor can be also inserted in the audio path of the signal sent to the microphone consoles:

With reference to the 'INSERT' (RCA) connectors of the DMU 6100 main unit, remove the jumper that links its output to its input.

3 Connect the DMU 6100 main unit 'INSERT IN' to the DEC 6104 board 'AFP OUT' through a cable with RCA plugs.

ANTI-FEEDBACK PROCESSOR SETTING

The DMU 6100 software now includes a new parameter concerning the anti-feedback processor setting.

Press and hold (for at least 3 seconds) the SET button of the DMU 6100 main unit to enter the configuration menu, then press it again repeatedly to scroll all parameters until 'AFP SETUP' is displayed. Use the ▲ and ▼ buttons to change the setting (if necessary only), then press ENTER to confirm (the system is rebooted).
