PREPPING YOUR NEW TOOL
CHARGING
The The Rugged Commander is so easy to use. But before you start using your new tool, you must take the time to charge it overnight for 16 hours before its first use. Your new tool comes with a small amount of charge, but the initial charge will ensure your new tool will have optimum power performance to give you smooth fast cutting, every time.
- Before using for the first time, fully charge your new tool continuously for 16 hours.
- Maximum battery capacity will only be reached after 3 charging & discharging cycles.
- Ensure your new tool is switched off.
- Insert the small plug on the charging adaptor into the socket on the bottom of your new tool.
- Plug the charging adaptor into a suitable mains power socket and switch on. If the battery is very weak, wait about 1 minute.
- The red charging LED indicator light on your new tool will light up when correctly connected to the mains power. When it is fully charged, the red charging LED indicator light will remain on.
- A full charge will supply 30 minutes cordless runtime.
- To maintain optimum capacity of the rechargeable battery, it is highly recommended to fully discharge & then recharge your tool for 16 hours every 3 months.
HOW TO USE THE RUGGED COMMANDER
BEFORE USING
• Always inspect the trimmer blades for noticeable signs of damage.
- Always inspect the trimmer blades before use to ensure they are free from hair, debris etc.
- Ensure the trimmer is sufficiently charged before use.
- For best performance use on clean, dry hair that has been combed until tangle-free.
OILING THE BLADES
To get the sharpest, most precise cut, it is highly recommended to oil the blades about once a month.
Using the oil supplied with your new tool, unscrew the cap & cut off the very end of the plastic tube with a pair of scissors to release the oil.
Switch your tool on, gently squeeze the oil tube & apply 2 drops of oil onto the blades. Leave the tool on for a further few seconds to allow the oil to thoroughly spread across each of the blades. Switch off the tool & remove any excess oil by gently dabbing with a cloth.
USING THE 3 POSITION TAPER CONTROL
DEFINE YOUR LOOK!
The 3 position taper control (located on the rear of the handle) is ideal for blending layers & a precise close trim, every time. The taper control eliminates the need in some situations for a comb attachment because it lets you gradually adjust the closeness of the cut.
To use the taper control:
- For closest cut and shortest hair, slide the switch all the way down to level #3. This is the setting to use for the 2-day shadow look and will trim to 0.6mm length.
- To increase the cutting length, slide the switch up to level #2 - this will trim to 1.1mm length.
- To increase cutting to the longest length, slide the switch to level #1 - this will trim to 1.5mm length.
TRIMMING TIPS

USING THE BLADE TO OUTLINE
- Do not attach a comb guide.
- Hold the trimmer upside down with the blade facing downwards, yet flat against the skin.
- Move the trimmer gently downwards in small strokes around the edge of the area you wish to outline.
- Having defined the outline, hold the trimmer with the blades pointing upwards, yet flat against the skin and move the trimmer upwards against the direction of hair growth. This will trim the unwanted hair adjacent to the outline.
BE CAREFUL NOT TO APPLY EXCESS PRESSURE TO THE BLADE, AS THIS MAY DAMAGE THE BLADE AND CAN RESULT IN INJURY TO THE SKIN DURING TRIMMING
USING THE STUBBLE COMB GUIDES
This trimmer includes 2 stubble combs. These combs allow you to achieve 6 different looks of stubble or shadow looks to your already existing growth.
Simply use comb #1-#2 for any look you would like to achieve. You can also use the taper control, which has 3 settings. Combined with 2 total stubble combs you can achieve your 6 different looks.
Each comb has a different length - comb #1 is closest to the skin of the face. Customize a different look each day!
USING THE 5 POSITION BEARD COMB GUIDE
- To attach the 5 position comb guide, slide the comb guide onto the front of the trimming blade and push down at the rear to lock into place – you will hear a clicking noise when it's in position.
- The comb guide has 5 length settings, 2mm, 4mm, 6mm, 8mm & 10mm. To adjust the cutting length, push the button and click the comb guide forward to the required position.
- Select the required cutting length setting (2-10 mm). If you require more than one cutting length, start with the longest length first.
- Adjust the taper control as required.
- Comb through your beard against the grain to detangle and make the hair easy for trimming.
- Switch the trimmer on.
- Hold the trimmer with the teeth of the trimmer pointing upwards, yet flat against the skin.
- Move the trimmer upwards and outward through the hair, against the direction of hair growth.
- The trimmer will work most efficiently when cutting through hair at its own speed.

- Using the cleaning brush, gently brush and blow any hairs from the blade set and head of your trimmer.
- To replace the blade set, place your thumb on the large blade and snap into place. Make sure the taper control is set to the longest (#1) position.
