Frequently Asked Questions - DS-WSPWI-T8 Hikvision

How do I install a hard drive in the DS-WSPWI-T8?

To install a hard drive, power off the NVR, remove the screws on the bottom cover, slide the drive into the SATA bay, secure it with screws, and reconnect the power. Then format the drive via the menu under Storage > HDD Management.

How do I connect IP cameras to the NVR?

Connect the cameras to the PoE ports using Ethernet cables. The NVR will automatically detect and add them. For non-PoE cameras, connect to the same network and add them manually via Camera Management.

Can I access the NVR remotely?

Yes, enable remote access by registering the NVR to Hik-Connect cloud service. Scan the QR code on the NVR using the Hik-Connect app, then view and playback recordings from anywhere.

How do I reset the NVR to factory defaults?

Go to System > Maintenance > Factory Defaults. Alternatively, press and hold the reset button (if available) for 10 seconds with the device powered on. This will erase all settings.

How do I update the firmware?

Download the latest firmware from the Hikvision website. Transfer the .dav file to a USB drive, insert it into the NVR, go to System > Firmware Update, and select the file. Do not power off during the update.

How do I set up motion detection recording?

Go to Camera Management, select the camera, then Motion Detection. Enable it, draw the detection area, adjust sensitivity, and link to recording under Storage > Recording Schedule.

How can I back up recorded footage?

Insert a USB drive into the NVR, go to Playback, select the time and camera, and click Export. Choose the file format (e.g., .mp4) and backup to the USB drive.

What is the maximum storage capacity?

The NVR supports one SATA hard drive up to 10 TB. Use a surveillance-grade drive for reliability.

The NVR screen shows no display. What should I do?

Check that the monitor is connected to the VGA/HDMI output and powered on. Verify the NVR is booting (power LED solid). If still blank, try a different monitor or reset the NVR.

How do I configure network settings?

Go to System > Network. You can set DHCP or static IP. For remote access, ensure ports 8000 (HTTP), 554 (RTSP), and 80 (HTTP) are forwarded on your router.

Chapter 2 Install Operation System

Purpose:

Recommended operation system version:

You are recommended to use USB external DVD drive to install Windows Server 2012 and CentOS system.

2.1 Install Windows System

Step 1 Create a bootable USB flash drive by using software like Refus.

Step 2 Insert the bootable USB flash drive into the device USB interface.

Step 3 Power on device. Device will enter windows setup interface.

Step 4 Click Next.

Step 6 Click I don't have a product key. You are recommended to activate Windows after finishing Windows installation.

Windows Setup Activate Windows If this is the first time you're installing Windows on this PC (or you're installing a different edition), you need to enter a valid Windows product key. Your product key should be in the confirmation email you received after buying a digital copy of Windows or on a label inside the box that Windows came in. The product key looks like this: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX If you're reinstalling Windows, select I don't have a product key. Your copy of Windows will be automatically activated later. Step 7 Select I accept the license terms.

Step 8 Click Next.

Step 9 Click Custom: Install Windows only (advanced).

Step 13 After reboot, OS will enter OOBE (Out-of-box experience) model. In this model, you can create your account and key, and customize your operation system.

2.2 Install Linux System

Purpose:

The device supports Ubuntu16.04.03 64-bit operation system. Follow the steps to install Ubuntu operation system on device.

Before you start:

Download the Ubuntu16.04.03 64-bit operation system from Ubuntu official site.
● Prepare a 2.0 or 3.0 USB flash drive with no more than 64 GB capacity, and the format is FAT32.
● Extract the Ubuntu operation system to the USB flash drive.

Step 1 Insert the USB flash drive which contains Ubuntu operation system to the device USB interface.

Step 2 Turn on device. The installation interface will appear.

Step 3 Click Install Ubuntu.

Step 4 Select none or select the option as needed. Here we take the example of selecting none to describe the steps.

Step 6 Select Installation Type. We take the example of selecting Erase disk and install Ubuntu to describe the steps.

Step 7 If both MMC and SATA disks exist, select disk as your desire.

Step 8 Click Install Now.

Chapter 3 Start Device up

3.1 Windows System

Proper startup and shutdown procedures are crucial to extend your device life.

Step 1 Check the power supply is plugged into an electrical outlet. It is HIGHLY recommended to use an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) in conjunction with the device.

Step 2 Turn on the power switch at the rear panel.

Step 3 After power up, the device will enter OOBE model. You can select your region, preferred language, keyboard layout, and time zone.

Step 12 Set you privacy settings.

Step 13 Click Accept.

3.2 Linux System

Chapter 4 HDD Installation

Purpose

The following section introduces the HDD installation. 2.5-inch HDD and 3.5-inch HDD are supported.

Before you start

Disconnect the power from the device before installing a hard disk drive (HDD). A factory recommended HDD should be used for this installation.

Tools Required: Screwdriver.

Step 1 For 3.5-inch HDD, fix mounting ears to HDD with screws.

For 2.5-inch HDD, fix HDD adaptor to HDD with screws

Step 2 Unlock the front panel with the attached key, and press the buttons on both sides of the front panel to open it.

Step 3 Insert the HDD until it is fixed firmly.

Step 4 (Optional) Repeat the steps above to install other HDDs.

Step 5 Close the front panel and lock it with key.
