BEFORE FIRST USE
INITIAL CLEANING
- Carefully remove the appliance from the packaging and remove all packaging materials.
- Remove all accessories from the packaging and from the appliance.
- Remove the water tank.
- Clean the water tank and its lid, the measuring spoon and the filters as well as the filter holder with warm water and some mild dish-washing liquid. After that, rinse with clear water and dry with a soft dry cloth.
- Wipe the body of the appliance and the drip tray with drip plate using a soft, damp cloth and dry all parts with a soft dry cloth.
- Never clean any of the appliance's parts in the dishwasher.
INITIAL USE
- Fill the water tank with cold water up to the MAX marking
- Connect the power plug to an electrical outlet with suitable voltage.
- Press the on/off button. The operating light lights up and the appliance starts preheating automatically. Once preheating is finished, all the button indicators light up continuously. The preheating process takes approx. 2 minutes.
- Place a cup under the steam wand. Turn the steam knob to the steam/hot water setting. Let the hot water flow out of the steam wand for approx. 8 seconds, then turn the steam knob to the OFF setting. This process allows the water to flow into the empty pump for the first use.
NOTE
There will be a loud noise and little shake when the appliance is operating for the first time. It's normal for a 20bar pump. The noise will be weaker during future usage.
- Insert a filter into the filter holder.
NOTE
The filter might be a little tight and hard to take out from filter holder. You can use the other filter to pry it out.
- Insert the filter holder without ground coffee into the brewing head with a 45° movement to the left and turn it to the right to lock it in place. The filter holder must be perpendicular to the appliance or slightly tilted towards the right.
-
Place an empty cup on the drip plate and press the single or double cup button to start operation.
-
After the brewing cycle has finished, discard the water.
- The appliance is now ready to be used.
OPERATION
NOTE
Always make sure that there is enough water in the water tank and that the water tank is properly attached to the appliance. The water level should be between the MIN and MAX level.
PREPARING ESPRESSO
NOTE
A cold filter holder, filter and cup can reduce the extraction temperature enough to significantly affect the quality of your espresso. We recommend to run a brewing cycle without coffee grounds to preheat all parts before extraction.
- Place the desired filter in the filer holder and fill the filter with ground coffee using the provided measuring spoon. We recommend 7-9g for a single cup and 13-15g for a double cup. The amount will vary depending on your preferences and the ground coffee you use.
- Tamp the ground coffee with the tamper. The coffee must be pressed evenly to obtain a well-levelled and flat surface. Remove any coffee residue from the edge of the filter holder.
- Insert the filter holder into the brewing head with a 45° movement to the left and turn it to the right to lock it in place. The filter holder must be perpendicular to the appliance or slightly tilted towards the right.
- Make sure the steam knob is in the OFF setting.
- Place pre-warmed cup(s) on the drip plate.
- Press the single or double cup button for the desired amount. The appliance starts operating.
NOTE
- The coffee flavor will depend on many factors, such as the type of coffee beans, degree of roast, freshness, coarseness or fineness of the grind, dose of ground coffee, and tamping pressure. Experiment by adjusting these factors just one at a time to achieve the preferred taste.
• There will be noise during the operating process. This is normal for a 20bar pump.
• The gauge needle indicates the extraction pressure.
- A pressure within the 'ESPRESSO RANGE' highlighted in grey on the gauge is ideal.
- When the gauge needle is below the 'ESPRESSO RANGE' during extraction, this indicates the espresso has been extracted with insufficient pressure. This can happen when the water flow through the ground coffee is too fast, resulting in an under-extracted espresso that is watery, cold and lacks crema and flavor. Possible causes for under-extraction include the grind being too coarse, insufficient coffee in the filter, insufficient tamping, or a combination of any of these. To resolve this:
- Select a finer coffee grind and retry.
- Increase the amount of coffee and retry.
- Increase the tamping pressure and retry.
- When the gauge needle is beyond the "ESPRESSO RANGE" during extraction, this indicates the espresso has been extracted with too much pressure. This can happen when the water flow through the ground coffee is too slow, resulting in an over-extracted espresso that is very dark and bitter with a mottled and uneven crema. Possible causes for over-extraction include the grind being too fine, too much ground coffee in the filter, over tamping or a combination of any of these. To resolve this:
- Select a coarser coffee grind and retry.
• Decrease the amount of coffee and retry.
• Decrease the tamping pressure and retry.
SETTING THE VOLUME OF SINGLE AND DOUBLE CUP
- Setting the volume of single cup:
- Keep the single cup button pressed for approx. 3 seconds. An acoustic signal sounds 3 times and the appliance starts the brewing process.
- Press the single cup button again once the desired volume of espresso has been extracted. An acoustic signal sounds 3 times to indicate the new single cup volume has been set.
- Set the volume of double cup:
- Keep the double cup button pressed for approx. 3 seconds. An acoustic signal sounds 3 times and the appliance starts the brewing process.
- Press the double cup button again once the desired volume of espresso has been extracted. An acoustic signal sounds 3 times to indicate the new double cup volume has been set.
NOTE
The selected brewing time must be between 8-60 seconds. Otherwise, the setting fails to work.
- Resetting to default single cup and double cup volumes:
Keep both the single and double cup button pressed for approx. 5 seconds. An acoustic signal sounds 3 times and all button indicators flash 5 times. The appliance is now reset to its original default settings.
FROTHING MILK
NOTE
To prepare a traditional cappuccino or latte, we recommend using cold, fresh whole milk. The density of the frothed milk depends on the milk's fat content. Use a stainless steel, circular, rounded milk jug, narrower at the top, with a spout, in order to make decorations with the frath.
- Before starting to froth milk, slightly move the steam wand outwards in order to be able to insert a jug directly under it and facilitate the movements required to froth the milk correctly.
- Press the steam button. The steam indicator starts flashing if the temperature is not high enough to make steam. Once the preheating is finished, the steam indicator lights up continuously.
- Turn the steam knob slightly counterclockwise to eliminate any condensation from the steam wand, then turn the knob to the OFF setting again.
- Place a jug, half-filled with cold milk, under the steam wand.
- Place the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk. If it is inserted too deep, the milk won't be frothed; if it is not inserted deep enough, big bubbles will be produced and then disappear immediately. It is important to keep the steam wand not at the center but close to the edge of the lug, with an appropriate angle to produce a stronger vortex.
- Turn the steam knob to the steam/hot water setting. Steam is released from the steam wand.
- To froth the milk correctly, the steam wand must always be in contact with the milk and not with the froth. Therefore, as the layer of froth increases, the jug must be slightly raised, albeit without the steam wand touching the bottom of the jug.
- Once the desired frothing has been achieved, the steam wand must be pushed deeper to heat the milk well. Keep a hand on the rounded part of the jug to feel the temperature of the milk.
- Once the desired result has been achieved, turn the steam knob to the OFF setting to stop releasing steam. Press the steam button to quit the steam mode.
NOTE
The entire operation should last no longer than 3 minutes. The appliance automatically stops releasing steam after 3 minutes of continuous operation.
- Remove the jug. To make the froth more compact, lightly tap the jug on a flat surface after frothing. Pour the frothed milk into the coffee.
- Turn the steam knob to the steam/not water setting to eliminate any milk residue from the steam wand. Then turn the knob to the OFF setting again.
NOTE
- The steam wand is very hot during and after use. To avoid bums, move it only by placing your fingers on the steam wand handle.
-
Do not make espresso immediately after frothing milk. The temperature of the appliance is too high, and thus it is under overheating protection. In this state, the single and double cup indicators flash if you press either of the buttons. Either let the appliance cool down completely, or proceed as follows to cool it down quickly:
-
Turn the steam knob to the steam/hot water position to dispense hot water in order to cool down the appliance.
- Once the temperature of the appliance is down, all the button indicators light up continuously.
- Return the knob to the OFF setting. The appliance is now ready for the next brew.
DISPENSING HOT WATER
- Press the on/off button and wait until all button indicators up.
- Place a cup under the steam wand.
- Turn the steam knob to the steam/hot water setting. Hot water is dispensed from the steam wand.
- Once the desired amount of hot water has been dispensed, turn the steam knob to the OFF setting.
NOTE
- The entire operation should last no longer than 40 seconds. The appliance automatically stops dispensing hot water after 40 seconds of continuous operation. If you want more hot water, run the cycle again.
- The steam wand is very hot during and after use. To avoid bums, move it only by placing your fingers on the steam wand handle.
AFTER USE
CLEANING
NOTE
Clean the appliance regularly to keep it in a safe and hygienic working condition and to ensure that the coffee taste is not impaired.
- Before cleaning, unplug the appliance and let it cool down completely. Then empty the water tank and filter holder, if necessary.
- Do not clean the appliance with steel wool, strong chemicals, alkali, abrasive or disinfecting agents as they may damage its surface.
- Do not immerse the appliance in water or other liquids to clean it. Make sure that the electrical parts do not become wet or damp.
- Never clean any of the appliance's parts in the dishwasher.
- Regularly empty the drip tray. When the drip tray's floater is visible from the drip plate, the drip tray is full and needs to be emptied.
- Remove the filter from the filter holder. The filters and the filter holder can be cleaned in warm water, using a soft sponge. Dry with a dry soft cloth. If you notice malfunctions when brewing coffee, immerse the filter in boiling water for 10 minutes and then rinse with running water.
- Immediately after frothing milk, turn the steam knob to the steam/hot water setting to purge out any residual milk from the steam wand.
- Clean the steam wand with a damp cloth. To clean it more thoroughly, you can unscrew it and wash it under running water. If the hole of the steam wand becomes blocked, use a pin to unblock the hole.
- Regularly remove any residual coffee grounds from the brewing head using a brush, and wash with hot water following the steps below:
-
Insert the filter holder into the brewing head without ground coffee.
-
Place an empty cup on the drip plate.
-
Press the double cup button and let the water fill the cup.
-
Remove the filter holder from the brewing head and clean the brewing head with a dry cloth.
WARNING
Do not try to disassemble the brewing head. It will damage the brewing Head and lead to leakage.
- Clean the body of the appliance with a soft damp cloth. Wipe with a dry soft cloth.
• The appliance may only be used again after it is dried completely.
DESCALING
- To make sure the appliance operates efficiently, to clean the internal pipes, and to preserve the flavor of your coffee, the appliance needs to be descaled regularly.
- Additionally, after 500 brewing cycles, a descaling reminder will be displayed (the on/off button flashes 5 times). The descaling reminder will appear every time you turn on the appliance if you do not run a descaling cycle.
• Proceed as follows to descale the appliance: - Fill water with descaling agent (4 parts water to 1 part descaling agent) into the water tank up to the MAX marking.
NOTE
Also refer to the instructions on the descaling agent. Only use a regular household descaling agent or citric acid; in the latter case, use 100 parts water to 3 parts of citric acid.
- Place a cup or other suitable receptacle on the drip plate and keep both the double cup and steam button pressed for approx. 5 seconds. The appliance starts the descaling cycle. The cycle takes approx. 7 minutes and stops automatically.
- Repeat the previous steps until the water with descaling agent/citric acid is used up.
- Repeat the whole process two more times using only clean tap water without any descaling agent.
STORAGE
- Before storage, always make sure that the appliance is completely dry and cooled down.
- Ensure that the water tank and drip tray are empty and clean.
- Store the appliance in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture and out of the reach of children.
- Preferably store the appliance in its original packaging
