How do I use the OBH Nordica SharpX 9960 knife sharpener?

Place the sharpener on a steady surface, plug it in, and press the switch-button with your left thumb. Hold the knife in your right hand, place the blade (starting near the handle) into the rotating wheel with slight pressure, and pull it slowly towards you over 3-4 seconds. Repeat 3 to 5 times until sharp. Release the button and wipe the blade clean.

What types of knives can I sharpen with this product?

The SharpX 9960 works on both stainless steel and carbon steel knives. It is not suitable for serrated knives.

Why are there black marks on the ceramic pins when I unpack the sharpener?

Black marks are normal and result from quality testing at the factory. They do not affect the performance of the product.

How do I clean the SharpX 9960?

Wipe the outer housing with a damp cloth and dry. To clean the sharpening wheel, hold a small brush (like a toothbrush) against the rotating wheel. For internal grinding dust, unplug the device, unscrew the bottom lid, shake out dust or use a vacuum cleaner, then replace the lid.

Can I sharpen very dull knives with this sharpener?

The sharpener is designed for maintaining and restoring edges. For very dull knives, a more aggressive method may be needed; we recommend professional sharpening instead.

1. Read the instruction manual carefully before use, and save it for future use.
2. Plug the appliance to a household outlet of 230V only, and use the appliance only for the intended use.
3. Always unplug the appliance from the mains supply when disorder is experienced, when not in use, when parts are applied or removed from the appliance and before cleaning and maintenance.
4. The appliance must not be immersed into water or other liquids.
5. This appliance shall not be used by children. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children.
6. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children. Children shall be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
7. Appliances can be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved.
8. Check that the cord is not hanging over the edge of the table.
9. Do not place the appliance on or near hotplates, open fire or the like.
10. The appliance should only be used under supervision.

11. Be careful when sharpening knives. Ensure that only the blade of the knife gets in contact with the rotating abrasive wheel.

12. Never put fingers into the rotating abrasive wheel.

OBH Nordica SharpX is an electric knife-sharpener that maintains the sharpness of your knives and restores the sharp edge.

The appliance is equipped with a unique sharpening-wheel that sharpens the knife by 20 ceramic pins that are positioned crosswise in a wheel that rotates with a speed of 330 rpm. The ceramic pins guarantees a careful and efficient sharpening that forms the knife-edge in a correct angle.

The sharpening-wheel with the 20 ceramic pins is a Swedish patented invention.

For very dull knives, a more aggressive sharpening method might be required and we then recommend that the knives are given to a professional for sharpening instead.

Before use

Place the appliance on a steady even surface and connect the plug to wall socket.

Using the knife sharpener

The wheel starts rotating when you press down the switch-button and stop rotating when the button is released.

Collect the knife/knives to be sharpened.

Press down the switch-button with left-hand thumb and hold the knife in our right hand. NB! Keep your fingers away from the knife to avoid injury!

Place the blade (where the blade begins, by the handle) in the wheel with a slight pressure and pull it slowly, during approx. 3-4 seconds, towards you. Check the sharpening result after 3 to 5 times. Repeat until desired sharpening is achieved. Release the switch-button.

For best result:

It's important to position the knife straight in the track during sharpening and do NOT PRESS the knife down. Pull it through the wheel with a slight pressure.

If you press too hard the blade of the knife will run against the black edge of the wheel and this may cause marks on the blade. This applies especially knives with frosted/matt blades.

Wipe off the knife-blade after the sharpening is finished.

Never stick your fingers into the rotating wheel.

The sharpening-wheel works on both stainless steel and carbon steel.

Do not use with serrated knives.

Cleaning

Wipe off the outer housing with a damp cloth and dry.

The sharpening-wheel can be cleaned with a small brush (for ex. a toothbrush) that is held towards the wheel while rotating.

If you wish to remove eventual grinding dust that is collected inside the knife sharpener, unscrew the lid positioned underneath the appliance and shake out and/or use a vacuum cleaner to suck out eventual dust from the opening. Always unplug from the mains supply before the lid is being removed!

Put back the lid and tighten the screws.

Disposal of the appliance

Legislation requires that all electrical and electronic equipment must be collected for reuse and recycling. Electrical and electronic equipment marked with the symbol indicating separate collection of such equipment must be returned to a municipal waste collection point.

At OBH Nordicas choice, a replacement product may be provided instead of repairing a defective product. OBH Nordicas sole obligation and your exclusive resolution under this guarantee are limited to such repair or replacement.

Conditions & Exclusions

OBH Nordica shall not be obliged to repair or replace any product which is not accompanied by a valid proof of purchase. The defective product may be returned to the store of purchase.

This guarantee applies only for products purchased and used for domestic purposes and will not cover any damage which occurs as a result of misuse, negligence, failure to follow OBH Nordica instructions, or a modification or unauthorised repair of the product, faulty packaging by the owner or mishandling by any carrier. It also does not cover normal wear and tear, maintenance or replacement of consumable parts, or the following:

• using the wrong type of water or consumable
• mechanical damages, overloading
• damages or poor results specifically due to wrong voltage or frequency as stamped on the product ID or specification
• ingress of water, dust or insects into the product
• scaling (any de-scaling must be carried out according to the instructions for use)
