1. Read the instruction manual carefully before use, and save it for future use.
2. Plug the appliance to a household outlet of 230V only, and use the appliance only for the intended use.
3. Always unplug the appliance from the mains supply when disorder is experienced, when not in use, when parts are applied or removed from the appliance and before cleaning and maintenance.
4. The appliance must not be immersed into water or other liquids.
5. This appliance shall not be used by children. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children.
6. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children. Children shall be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
7. Appliances can be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved.
8. Check that the cord is not hanging over the edge of the table.

11. Be careful when sharpening knives. Ensure that only the blade of the knife gets in contact with the rotating abrasive wheel.

Before use

OBH Nordica SharpX-treme is an electric knife sharpener with one sharpening wheel with diamond coated pins for shaping the knife edges on very dull knives, and one sharpening wheel with ceramic pins that maintain/polish your knives and restores the sharpness.

The appliance is equipped with two unique sharpening-wheels, where the knife is sharpened/polished by ceramic and diamond coated pins that are positioned crosswise. The pins guarantees a careful and efficient sharpening/polishing of the knife edge in a correct angle.

The sharpening wheels are a Swedish patented invention.

Use

• Place the appliance on a steady even surface and connect the plug to a wall socket.
• Collect the knife/knives to be sharpened.

• If your knife is very dull you should first use the right sharpening wheel with diamond coating to shape the edge and thereafter polish the sharpness with the left wheel with ceramic pins, for perfect finish. Note that the diamond wheel should only be used when sharpness is not achieved when using the ceramic wheel.

• If you only need to maintain the sharpness of your knife you should use the left wheel with ceramic pins.

• The wheels start rotating when you press the switch and stops when you release. Never stick your fingers into the rotating wheels.

For best result do as follows:

Using the diamond wheel

• Start the machine by keeping the switch pressed down.
• Place the knife blade close to the handle with a DISTINCT pressure so that the knife blade is pressed to the wheel. Draw the knife slowly in a smooth movement towards you during 3-4 seconds.
• It is important to position the knife straight in track during the sharpening process.
• Avoid to press the knife too hard so that the number of revolutions decreases considerably.
• Repeat until desired sharpness is maintained.
• Wipe the knife blade after.
• Polish the knife edge in the ceramic wheel.

Maintenance/polishing using the ceramic wheel

• Start the machine by keeping the switch pressed down.
• Place the knife blade close to the handle with a LIGHT pressure.
• Draw the knife slowly in a smooth movement towards you during 3-4 seconds.
• Repeat 3-4 times.
• It is important to position the knife straight in track during the sharpening process.
• If you press the knife too hard or angle the knife, there is a risk that the knife edge touches the black plastic edge. This may result in marks on the knife blade, especially if you use knives with matt surface.
• Wipe the knife blade after.

General information and warning

• The sharpening-wheel works on both stainless steel and carbon steel.
• The appliance is equipped with a safety system that automatically shuts off the appliance if it gets over heated. If this happens, wait at least 20 minutes before using the appliance again.
• Do not use with serrated knives, scissors or ceramic knives.
• Never stick your fingers into the rotating wheels.
• Note that the knife edge gets very sharp, warning for cuts and gashes.

Replacing the diamond wheel

After approximately 2 000 repetitions you might have to replace the diamond wheel with a new one (can be ordered from OBH Nordica phone [phone]). Make sure that the appliance is unplugged before you open the appliance. Open the lid underneath the appliance by unscrewing the two screws. Remove

the diamond wheel by pulling it out of the notch and lift it upwards. Place the new wheel into the wheel compartment by pushing the peg into the notch. Put the lid back and tighten the screws. Note that the ceramic wheel do not need to be replaced since it is not exposed to the same kind of strain.

Cleaning

Wipe off the outer housing with a damp cloth and dry.

The sharpening-wheels can be cleaned with a small brush (for ex. a toothbrush) that is held towards the wheel while rotating.

If you wish to remove eventual grinding dust that is collected inside the appliance, unscrew the lids positioned underneath the appliance and shake out and/or use a vacuum cleaner to suck out eventual dust from the opening. The dust in the diamond wheel space can be wiped off with a damp cloth/paper. Always unplug from the mains supply before the lids are removed!

Put back the lids and tighten the screws.

Disposal of the appliance

Legislation requires that all electrical and electronic equipment must be collected for reuse and recycling. Electrical and electronic equipment marked with the symbol indicating separate collection of such equipment must be returned to a municipal waste collection point.

Conditions & Exclusions

OBH Nordica shall not be obliged to repair or replace any product which is not accompanied by a valid proof of purchase. The defective product may be returned to the store of purchase.

This guarantee applies only for products purchased and used for domestic purposes and will not cover any damage which occurs as a result of misuse, negligence, failure to follow OBH Nordica instructions, or a modification or unauthorised repair of the product, faulty packaging by the owner or mishand-

ling by any carrier. It also does not cover normal wear and tear, maintenance or replacement of consumable parts, or the following:

• using the wrong type of water or consumable
• mechanical damages, overloading
• damages or poor results specifically due to wrong voltage or frequency as stamped on the product ID or specification
• ingress of water, dust or insects into the product
• scaling (any de-scaling must be carried out according to the instructions for use)
• damage as a result of lightning or power surges
• damage to any glass or porcelain ware in the product
• accidents including fire, flood, etc
