SAFETYWARNINGS
- This machine is designed to "make coffee" and to "heat drinks": be careful to avoid scalding from the water and steam jets or by using the machine incorrectly.
- Do not touch hot parts (outlet area in contact with the filter holder and the warming plate).
- After removing the packaging, make sure the appliance is complete and undamaged. If in doubt, do not use the appliance and contact qualified personnel only.
- This appliance must be used for exclusively domestic purposes. All other uses are considered improper and thus dangerous.
- The manufacturer may not be considered liable for damage deriving from improper, incorrect or unreasonable use of the appliance.
- Never touch the appliance with wet or damp hands or feet.
- Never allow the appliance to be used by children or unfit persons without surveillance.
Children must be supervised at all times to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. - If the appliance breaks down or malfunctions, turn it off. Do not attempt to repair it. For repairs, contact an authorized Service Centre only and request original spare parts. Failure to observe the above points may affect the safety of the appliance.
- The power cable of this appliance must never be replaced by the user as it requires the use of special tools. If the power cable is damaged or needs replacing, contact an authorized Service Centre.
- Remove the plug from the mains socket and turn off the main switch when the appliance is not in use. Do not leave the appliance switched on unnecessarily.
- Never immerse the appliance in water.
INSTALLATION
- Place the appliance on a work surface far away from water taps and basins.
- Before use, make sure the mains voltage corresponds to the voltage indicated on the rating plate on the appliance. Connect the appliance to a correctly-earthy power socket (minimum rating 10A) only. The manufacturer declines all liability for any accidents due to the incorrect earthing of the appliance.
- Never install the machine in environments where the temperature may reach 0^ or lower (the appliance may be damaged if the water freezes).
- Adjust the exact time by pressing and at the same time turning the knob (T) clockwise (fig. 1).
CHLORINE FILTER (IF FITTED)
The filter eliminates the taste of chlorine from the water. To install the filter, proceed as follows:
- Remove the chlorine filter from the plastic bag and rinse in tap water.
- Lift the water tank cap and remove the filter holder from its housing by pulling upwards (fig. 2).
- Open the holder by pressing in the area marked "PUSH" and place the filter carefully in the holder as indicated in fig. 3.
- Close the holder and replace in its housing by pressing downwards as far as it will go.
After 80 cycles or six months of operation, the chlorine filter must be replaced.
HOW TO PREPARE THE DRIP COFFEE
- Lift the cap and remove the water tank (Fig. 4).
- Fill the tank with fresh, clean water up to the level corresponding to the number of cups of coffee required.
- Place the tank back in the coffee maker, pressing it lightly. The tank may also be filled without being removed, using the jug marked with the level indicators (Fig. 5).
- Open the filter holder by rotating towards the left (fig. 6).
-
Position the permanent filter (if fitted) in the filter holder (fig. 7). In other versions, use the #4 paper filter.
-
Place the ground coffee in the filter, using the measure supplied, and level evenly (Fig. 8). As a general rule, use a level measuring spoon of ground coffee (around 7 grams) for each cup (for example, 8 spoons to make 8 cups). If you prepare 11-12 cups, reduce the quantity of coffee and never exceed a maximum of 11 level spoons. The quantity of ground coffee used may, however, be varied according to personal taste. Use good quality, medium ground coffee, packaged for drip coffee makers.
- Close the filter holder and place the jug on the warming plate with the lid on. Make sure it is central.
- Press the "ON/OFF" switch (Fig. 9). The ON light above the switch indicates that the coffee maker is in operation.
- The coffee will start to come out after a few seconds. It is completely normal for the appliance to release a little steam while the coffee is percolating.
- If the "ON/OFF" switch is left in the ON position after percolation, the warming plate will keep the coffee at the ideal temperature.
Important: removing the jug before all the coffee requested is made does not interrupt production of the coffee, but merely blocks flow into the jug. If you want to pour out a little coffee immediately, you are recommended to do so as rapidly as possible in order to avoid the coffee overflowing.
Important: the timer enables you to have your coffee ready and waiting whenever you want.
1 Turn the knob (T) until the red pointer indicates the time when you want the coffee to be ready (fig. 10).
2 Press the "Timer On" button. The corresponding light comes on (fig. 11).
Important: the appliance has an electric clock.
Make sure the appliance is plugged into the mains electricity supply by watching the seconds pointer turn. The appliance has a 12 hour clock, so programming must be for less than this time.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Before performing any cleaning or maintenance operations, turn the machine off, unplug it from the power socket and allow it to cool down.
- When cleaning the coffee maker, do not use solvents or abrasive detergents. A soft, damp cloth is sufficient.
- Never immerse the coffee maker in water: it is an electrical appliance.
CLEANING THE FLAVOUR SELECTOR
To clean the flavour selector more efficiently, it can be removed from the filter holder cone by sliding it upwards (Fig. 12). To replace, simply slide in from above.
DESCALING
If the water in your local area is hard, lime scale will form over time. These deposits may affect the correct operation of the appliance.
The coffee maker must be descaled every 40 cycles. The descending process may be performed using special commercially-available scale removers for drip coffee makers. Alternatively, white wine vinegar can be used as follows:
- Remove the chlorine filter.
- Pour 2 cups of white wine vinegar and 3 cups of water into the tank. Place the tank in the coffee maker;
- Place the jug on the warming plate, do not put any ground coffee in the filter holder;
- Press the drip coffee ON/OFF switch, percolate the equivalent of one cup and then switch off the appliance;
- Leave the vinegar to act for one hour;
- Switch the coffee maker back on and percolate the rest of the solution;
- To rinse the machine, operate it with water and without ground coffee at least 3 times (3 complete tanks of water).

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CORRECT DISPOSAL OF THE PRODUCT IN ACCORDANCE WITH EC DIRECTIVE 2002/96/EC.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION (UK ONLY)
A) If your appliance comes fitted with a plug, it will incorporate a 13 Amp fuse. If it does not fit your socket, the plug should be cut off from the mains lead, and an appropriate plug fitted, as below. WARNING: Very carefully dispose of the cut off plug after removing the fuse: do not insert in a 13 Amp socket elsewhere in the house as this could cause a shock hazard. With alternative plugs not incorporating a fuse, the circuit must be protected by a 15 Amp fuse. If the plug is a moulded-on type, the fuse cover must be re-fitted
WARNING - THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED IMPORTANT
The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code:
Green and yellow: Blue: Brown:
Earth Neutral Live

when changing the fuse using a 13 Amp Asta approved fuse to BS 1362. In the event of losing the fuse cover, the plug must NOT be used until a replacement fuse cover can be obtained from your nearest electrical dealer. The colour of the correct replacement fuse cover is that as marked on the base of the plug.
B) If your appliance is not fitted with a plug, please follow the instruc-tions provided below:
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:
The green and yellow wire must be connected to the terminal in the plug marked with the letter E or the earth symbol 12 or coloured green or green and yellow.
The blue wire must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter N or coloured black.
The brown wire must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter L or coloured red.
