About the BlackBerry Client for use with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007
You can use the BlackBerry® Client for use with Microsoft® Office Communications Server 2007 to chat with other Microsoft® Office Communicator users using your BlackBerry device. To use the client, you must have a Microsoft Office Communicator sign-in name. If you do not have a sign-in name, contact your administrator.
You can send and receive email messages and use other applications on your device while the client is running. When you receive a new instant message, an indicator appears at the top of the Home screen.
Sign in to the BlackBerry Client for use with Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007
If you do not remember your sign-in name or password, contact your administrator.
1. On the Home screen or in the Instant Messaging folder, click the icon for the client.
2. Type your sign-in name and password.
3. Click Sign In.
To sign out, on the contact list screen, press the Menu key. Click Sign Out.
About sound profiles
You can set notification options for the client, such as vibrate or tone, in the sounds application. The Enterprise Messenger Alert item specifies how you are notified when a contact that you have set an availability notification for becomes available. The Enterprise Messenger New Message item how you are notified of incoming instant messages.
Depending on the sound profile that is set in the sounds application on your device, you might not hear the audible notification that you have set for the client. For more information about sounds, click the Help icon on the Home screen of your BlackBerry® device.
Availability
About your status
Your status is made up of a status indicator and a status message. You can create a custom status by typing your own status message and choosing a status indicator.
Change your status
- On the contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click My Info.
- Change the Status field.
Add a status message
- On the contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click My Info.
- Type a status message.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Save.
Create a custom status
- On the contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click My Info.
- Change the Status field.
- Click Custom Statuses.
- Type a status message.
- Click a status indicator.
- To add the custom status to the status list, select the Add to status list check box.
- Click OK.
Set your status to reflect your device status
You can set your status to change to Away when you do not use your BlackBerry® device for a specified duration of time. When you use your device again, the status changes back to the previous status.
- On the contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click Options.
- Change the Show me as Away when idle for field to a duration of time.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Save.
Reset your status
- On the contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click My Info.
- Change the Status field.
- Click Reset Status.
Change your current location status
Contacts can only view your location status if they are using a BlackBerry® device.
- On the contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click My Info.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Current Location.

Perform one of the following actions:

Click Home.
- Click Office.
- Click Create Custom Location. Type a location status. Click OK.
To stop displaying your location status, click Do Not Show a Location.
Receive notification when a contact becomes available
You can receive a message when a contact is available. Depending on the sound profile that is set on your device, you might also receive an audible notification.
- On the contact list screen, highlight an unavailable contact.

Press the Menu key.

Click Alert Me.
- Click OK.
Contacts
Add a contact
- On the contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click Add a Contact.
- To specify a contact group, change the Group name field.
- In the Sign-in name field, type part or all of a sign-in name. If necessary, click Lookup.
- Click a contact.
- Click OK.

To link the contact with a contact in the contacts application, perform one of the following actions:

If the contact is already in the contacts application, click Select Contact. Click a contact.
- If the contact is not yet in the contacts application, click New Contact. Type the contact information. Press the Menu key. Click Save.
View a contact's information
- On the contact list screen, highlight a contact.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Contact Info.
Link a contact with a contact in the contacts application
When you link a contact with a contact in the contacts application, you might be able to perform additional tasks. For example, during a conversation, you might be able to call or send an email message to the contact quickly from the menu.
- On the contact list screen, in a contact group, highlight a contact.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Link to BlackBerry Contact.

Perform one of the following actions:

If the contact is already in the contacts application, click Select Contact. Click a contact.
- If the contact is not yet in the contacts application, click New Contact. Type the contact information. Press the Menu key. Click Save.
Change a contact's display picture
To perform this task, you must have linked the contact with a contact in the contacts application.
- On the contact list screen, highlight a contact.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Contact Info.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Change Picture.
- Click a picture.
- If necessary, center the picture in the box. Press the Menu key. Click Crop and Save.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Save.
Hide the display pictures that appear beside contacts in the contact list
- On the Contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click Options.
- Change the Show Contact Pictures field to No.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Save.
Restrict the contact information that a contact can view about you
You can restrict the type and amount of contact information that a contact can view about you by changing the access levels for that contact. Access level options are listed from least restrictive to most restrictive. For more information about access levels, visit www.microsoft.com.
- On the contact list screen, highlight a contact.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Change Access Level.
- Click an access level option.
Delete a contact
- On the contact list screen, in a contact group, highlight a contact.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Delete Contact.
- Click Delete.
Block a contact
If you block a contact, you appear as offline in that contact's contact list.
- On the contact list screen, highlight a contact.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Contact Info.
- Change the Access Level field to Blocked.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Save.
To unblock a contact, change the Access Level field.
View blocked contacts
- On the contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click Options.
- Change the Show Blocked Contacts field to Yes.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Save.
To hide blocked contacts again, change the Show Blocked Contacts field to No.
A contact no longer appears in my contact list
Try performing the following actions:
If you have set your client to hide offline contacts, organize offline contacts so that you can view offline contacts.
If you have collapsed the group that the contact is in, expand the group. On the contact list screen, click the group.
Contact groups
Add a contact group
- On the contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click Create New Group.
- Type a name for the contact group.
- Click OK.
Move a contact to a different contact group
- On the contact list screen, in a contact group, highlight a contact.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Move Contact To.
- Click a contact group.
Remove a contact from a contact group
When you remove a contact from a contact group that you created, the contact is moved to the default contact group.
- On the contact list screen, in a contact group, highlight a contact.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Remove Contact from Group.
Rename a contact group
- On the contact list screen, highlight a contact group.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Rename Group.
- Type a new name.
- Click OK.
Delete a contact group
- On the contact list screen, highlight a contact group.

Press the Menu key.

Click Delete Group.
- Click Delete.
Organize offline contacts
- On the Contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click Options.

In the Show Offline Contacts field, perform one of the following actions:

To group offline contacts, change the field to Group.
- To view offline contacts, change the field to Yes.

To hide offline contacts, change the field to No.

Press the Menu key.
- Click Save.
Conversations
Send a message
- On the Contact list screen, click an online contact.
- Type a message.
- Press the Enter key.
Send a message to a user that is not in your contact list
- On the contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click Send IM to Other.
- Type a sign-in name.
- Click OK.
Add an emoticon
Depending on your administrator, this feature might not be supported.
- When you are composing a message, press the Menu key.
- Click Add Smiley.
- Click an emoticon.
Start a conference
- During a conversation, press the Menu key.
- Click Invite to Conversation.
- Click a contact.
View a list of conference participants
- During a conference, press the Menu key.
- Click View Participants.
Switch conversations
- During a conversation, press the Menu key.
- Click Switch Conversation.
- Click a contact.
Copy a conversation
- During a conversation, press the Menu key.
- Click Copy Conversation.
Email a conversation
Depending on your administrator, this feature might not be supported.
- During a conversation, press the Menu key.
- Click Email Conversation.
Clear a conversation
- During a conversation, press the Menu key.
- Click Clear Conversation.
End a conversation
- During a conversation, press the Menu key.
- Click End Conversation.
Stop grouping messages in conversations
In a conversation, by default, consecutive messages that you send or receive are grouped together.
- On the contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click Options.
- Change the Group Sequential Messages in Conversations field to No.
- Press the Menu key.
5. Click Save.
I am not receiving notification for incoming messages
In the sounds application, try performing the following actions:
- Verify that the All Alerts Off sound profile is not selected.
- Verify that the Volume fields for the Enterprise Messenger New Message item are not set to Silent.
- Change the notification options for the Enterprise Messenger New Message item.
Text sometimes changes after I type it
If AutoText recognizes specific text, it is designed to replace the text that you type with the AutoText entry automatically.
To view or change AutoText entries, during a conversation, press the Menu key. Click Edit AutoText.
For more information about AutoText, click the Help icon on the Home screen of your BlackBerry® device.
Conversation history
Turn on conversation history
Depending on your administrator, this feature might not be supported.
- On the contact list screen, press the Menu key.
- Click Options.
- Change the Save Message History field to Device or Media Card.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click Save.
View the conversation history for a contact
You can only perform this task if you have previously turned on conversation history.
- On the contact list screen, highlight a contact.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click View History.
- Click a conversation history.
Search for text in a conversation history
You can only perform this task if you have previously turned on conversation history.
- On the contact list screen, highlight a contact.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click View History.
- Type the text.
- Click Search.
- In the search results, click a conversation history.
Delete a conversation history
You can only perform this task if you have previously turned on conversation history.
- On the contact list screen, highlight a contact.
- Press the Menu key.
- Click View History.

Perform one of the following actions:

To delete the conversation history for an individual contact, click Delete Contact's History.
- To delete the conversation history for all contacts, click Delete Complete History.
