Safety instructions
The safety standards of AEG electric appliances are in keeping with the recognised rules of technology and the law governing the safety of appliances. Nevertheless as a manufacturer we are committed to familiarise you with the following safety instructions:
General safety
- Repairs to the washing machine may only be carried out by qualified personnel. As a result of incorrect repairs considerable dangers for the user may result. Please contact our customer service department or an authorised AEG dealer in the event of repairs being necessary.
- Never start the washing machine if the mains flex is damaged or the control panel, work top or base area are so damaged, allowing internal components of the washing machine to be accessible.
- Switch off the washing machine before carrying out any cleaning, care and maintenance work! You can make totally sure by pulling the mains plug out of the socket or by switching off the fuse switch in the fuse box.
- Never use the flex to pull the plug out of the socket but pull the actual plug.
- Do not spray the washing machine with water.
- During washing programs at a high temperature, the glass of the door heats up. Do not touch!
- Allow the water to cool down before cleaning the drain pump, emergency emptying or opening the door in an emergency.
- Small animals can nibble at power cables and water hoses causing electric shock hazard and danger of damages from water!
Installation, connection and initial operation
- Please follow the separate Installation and connection instructions.
- If the machine is delivered during the winter at freezing temperatures: store the washing machine for 24 hours at room temperature before starting it.
- Run the first washing cycle without washing (COTTONS 95, with half the amount of washing powder) to remove residues from the drum which may have been left during manufacture.
Safety of children
- Often children are not aware of the dangers involved in handling electrical equipment. Therefore please ensure they are adequately supervised whilst the appliance is on and do not allow children to play with the washing machine – there is a risk that the children may lock themselves in the appliance.
- Packaging (e.g. plastic films, polystyrene) could be dangerous for children – danger of suffocation! Keep packaging away from children.
- Please make sure that children or small animals do not climb into the drum of the washing machine.
- When disposing of the washing machine pull out the plug, cut off the flex, dispose of the plug and remaining flex and destroy the door lock. This hinders children from locking themselves in and endangering their lives.
Intended use
- Only use the washing machine to wash normal domestic washing. If the washing machine is used for any other purpose or is incorrectly used, the manufacturer adopts no liability for any damages which may result.
- Conversions or changes to washing machines are not permitted due to safety reasons.
- Only use washing powder which is suitable for washing machines. Please follow the instructions of the washing powder manufacturers.
- The washing must not contain any flammable solvents.
- Do not use your washing machine for dry cleaning.
- Dyes and bleaching agents may only be used if specifically permitted by the manufacturer of these products. We cannot be held liable for any damages.
• Installation must comply with local water authority and building regulations requirements.

Disposal
Dispose of the packaging!
Dispose of the packaging material of your washing machine correctly. All packaging materials are environmentally friendly and can be disposed of without any danger or burnt in the refuse incinerator.
The plastic parts can be reused:
- The external plastic cover and the bags inside are made of polyethylene (marking >PE<).
- The padding is made of CFC free expanded polystyrene (marking >PS<).
When disposing of the washing machine, cut off the mains cable, and destroy the plug. Disable any door catches to prevent young children being wrapped inside.
Use an authorised disposal site.

Environmental tips
- For normally soiled washing you do not need a prewash. In this way you can save washing powder, water and time (and not pollute the environment!).
- The washing machine works particularly economically if you exploit the maximum loads.
- For small quantities of washing use half to two thirds of the recommended washing powder quantity.
- By suitable pretreatment stains and a certain amount of dirt can be removed. Then you can wash at a low temperature.
- Wash slightly soiled to normally soiled cottons with the energy saving program.
- Often you do not need a fabric softener. Just try it! If you use a tumble dryer your washing will become soft and fluffy without softener.
Important features of your appliance
- Program and temperature setting using the program selector.
- Four extra programs selectable with buttons.
- Stain program for effectively treating stained washing.
- Energy saving program for slightly soiled to normally soiled cottons.
• Maximum spin speed 1600 revolutions per minute, speed for the final spin is automatically adapted depending on the washing program selected:
-COTTONS/LINEN
1600 revolutions per minute
-EASY CARES
1000 revolutions per minute

- Program progress display
- Aqua Control with Aqua Alarm: maximum security against water damages.
- Drum illumination
- Chrome door rim and door open/light button.
- Automatic load adaptation with fuzzy logic: sensor controlled washing process with variable number of rinse cycles, water quantity dependent on foam and load, controlled spin etc, thus best washing and rinsing results with the lowest automatically adapted water consumption.
-
Child safety device
-
4-chamber detergent compartment for washing powder and fabric softener: temporary delayed addition of softener, washing powder and stain removing agent enables environmentally friendly washing and improves the effectiveness of the detergents.
- Noise reduction due to d.c. drive and high quality sound insulation.
- ÖKO lock: The Öko lock ensures 100% effective detergent usage. The Öko valve closes off the wash tub from the drainage system during all wash programmes.
- Special rinsing procedure to wet washing quicker and rinse it better
- Scoop ribs in the washing machine drum: ensure washing is wet fast and equally.
- Anti-unbalance control system: for stability and smooth running.
- Extra water switch:
Position 0 = off
Position 1 = suds cooling
Position 2 = suds cooling and extra rinse
( See "Selecting suds cooling or suds cooling and an extra rinse")
• Automatic adjustable foot: the back right foot of your washing machine is designed like a spring leg. This makes the machine very stable even at high spin speeds.
What does "update" mean?
The control system of your machine is fully electronic. The software which determines this control system can be reprogrammed. If a state of the art in washing technology is reached, your machine can be updated.
The cost of the update will be advised at the time of the request. For further information regarding this please contact the AEG Customer Care Department.

When this has been done the ÖKO lock can function correctly.
Run a wash cycle without washing (COTTONS 95, with half the amount of washing powder).
This removes any residues from the drum which may have been left during manufacture.
Preparing the washing cycle
Sorting out and preparing washing
- Sort out washing according to the type and care symbol (see "Types of washing and care symbols").
- Empty the pockets.
- Remove any metal parts (safety pins, badges).
- To prevent washing from getting damaged and forming bundles: close zips, button up duvet covers and pillow cases, tie up loose straps such as from aprons.
- Turn clothes made from double layer fabric inside out (e.g. anoraks, sleeping bags).
- For knitted coloured fabrics as well as woollens and fabrics with appliqué: turn inside out.
- Put small and delicate items (baby socks, tights) in a washing net or a pillow case with a zip.
- Handle curtains with special care. Remove metal strips or plastic hooks.
- Keep coloureds and whites separately in different washing cycles.
- When washing fabrics requiring different wash temperatures always select the lowest temperature.
- New coloured fabric often contains excess dyes. Wash this laundry separately for the first time.
- Mix small and large pieces of washing! This improves the effectiveness of the wash and the washing is distributed better when spinning.
- Shake out washing before putting it into the machine.
- Unfold the washing before putting it into the drum.
Types of washing and care symbols
The care symbols help to choose the correct washing program. The washing should be sorted according to the type and care symbol. The temperature specifications in the care symbols are always maximum specifications.
Cottons 95
Fabrics made of cotton and linen with this care symbol will withstand maximum wash actions and high temperatures. The COTTONS/LINEN program is suitable for this type of washing.
Linens 60 40
Fabrics made of cotton and linen with this care symbol will withstand maximum wash actions and are colourfast at 40°C or 60°C. The COTTONS/LINEN program is suitable for this type of washing.
Easy care washing 40 60
Fabrics such as finished cottons, cotton mixtures and synthetics with this care symbol require a softer washing action. The EASY CARES program is suitable for this type of washing.
Delicates 40
Fabrics such as layered fabrics, microfibres, synthetics or curtains with this care symbol require a very gentle treatment. The DELICATES program is suitable for this type of washing.
Woollens and very delicate types of washing 40 30
Fabrics such as wool, wool mixtures or silk with this care symbol require a very gentle wash cycle. The WOOLLENS program is suitable for this type of washing.
Woollens with 📄 (wool mark) may only be washed in the washing machine if they bear the addition "does not felt" or "suitable for machine washing".
Fabrics with the care symbol 📋 (Hand washing) or ✗ (Do not wash!) may not be washed in the washing machine!
Please follow care instructions "wash separately" and "wash separately several times"!
Washing powders and conditioners
Which washing powder and conditioner?
Only use washing powders and fabric softeners suitable for automatic washing machine use. As a general rule follow the instructions of the producers.
How much washing powder and fabric softener?
The amount to be used depends on
- the load:
If the washing powder producer does not make any specifications for small loads, use a third less for half loads, and for very small loads only use half of the amount of washing powder recommended for a full load.
• the degree of soiling of the washing:
For only slightly soiled washing use less washing powder. Follow the instructions of the washing powder producer and load.
• on the degree of hardness of the tap water:
The harder the water, the higher the dosage! You will find the quantities to use according to water hardness on the washing powder packaging.
Liquid detergent
Add liquid detergent using the dispenser provided by the detergent manufacturer. Please follow the instructions on the package.
Using a water softening agent
In areas of hard water, the use of a water softening agent can reduce the amount of detergent necessary. See manufacturers recommendations.

| The child safety device is set. | Cancel the child safety device (see "Child safety device"). | |
| The rinse water is cloudy. | Probably caused by a washing powder with a high silicate content. | This does not affect the rinse results. If necessary use liquid detergent. |
| When pressing a program option button the corresponding display does not light up. | The program option selected is not available with the program set. | Make another selection. |
| Washing powder residues are left in the washing powder compartment. | The water tap is not fully open. | Open the water tap fully. |
| The filter in the inlet hose is blocked. | Clean the filter. | |
| The inlet hose filter is blocked. | Clean the filter. | |
| Program progress display flashes continuously. | Child safety device is activated; during the washing cycle the program selector was changed. | Turn the program selector back to its original position (see "Child safety device"). |
If the washing results are not satisfactory
If the washing turns greyish and limescale deposits are present in the drum
• Insufficient washing powder has been added.
- Incorrect washing powder was used.
• Special stains were not pretreated.
- Program or temperature was not set correctly.
- When using modular washing powders the individual components were not used in the correct ratio.
If there are still grey stains on the washing
- Washing soiled with ointments, grease or oils was washed with insufficient washing powder.
- The temperature selected for the wash was too low.
- A frequent cause is that fabric softener especially a concentrated one has come into contact with the washing. Wash out these types of stains as fast as possible and use the fabric softener carefully.
If after the final rinse foam is still visible
- Modern washing powders can still cause foam in the final rinse cycle. The washing is nevertheless sufficiently rinsed.
If there are white residues on the washing
• These are insoluble contents of modern washing powders. They are not the result of an insufficient rinse. Shake out the washing or brush it off. Turn the washing inside out before washing it. Review your choice of powder, possibly use liquid detergents.
Carrying out an emergency emptying

Warning! Switch off the washing machine before the emergency emptying!
If the washing machine no longer pumps out the water an emergency emptying must be carried out.
Warning! The water, which flows out of the emergency emptying hose can be hot. First allow the water to cool down before emergency emptying!
Put down a flat container to catch the water draining out.
Pull down the flap in the left corner of the base strip and remove it.

Release the emergency emptying hose from its holder.

natural_image

Place a container underneath to catch the water.
Release the plug of the emergency emptying hose by turning it anti-clockwise and pull it out.

natural_image
Technical diagram of a mechanical assembly with labeled parts (no readable text or symbols)The water will drain out. Depending on the amount of water, it may be necessary to empty the container to catch the water several times. To do this, temporari close the emergency emptying hose again
When the water has drained out completely:
Push and twist the plug firmly back into the emergency emptying hose.
Push the emergency emptying hose back in a little and let it catch on to the holder.
Replace the flap in the base plate and close it.

When the washing machine is completely empty, the ÖKO lock can no longer function correctly. Therefore before the next wash pour in approx 1 litre water (pour it in through the washing powder compartment).
Cleaning the drain pump
Warning! Switch off the washing machine and pull the plug out of the socket before cleaning the drain pump!
First carry out an emergency emptying (see section "Carrying out an emergency emptying").
Place a towel on the floor in front of the cover of the drain pump. Surplus water may flow out.
Unscrew the cover of the drain pump by twisting it anti-clockwise and pull it out.
Remove any foreign bodies which may be in the pump housing.
Check whether the impeller of the pump can be turned. (It is normal for the pump to turn in steps.) If the impeller cannot be turned at all please contact your local AEG Service Force Centre.
Replace the cover (insert the ridges on the cover into the guiding slots) and screw on tightly in a clockwise direction.
Close the emergency emptying hose, push in and twist.
Close the flap.

Unlocking the door in an emergency
If the door cannot be opened (e.g. due to a faulty door lock or due to a power cut during the washing program), it can be opened using the emergency unlock feature.
If water can be seen in the window of the door first carry out an emergency emptying (see section "Carrying out an emergency emptying").
Turn the knob anti-clockwise with the help of a coin or a screwdriver. The door opens.

Selecting suds cooling or suds cooling and an extra rinse
The washing machine is on a very economical water consumption setting.
For people who suffer from a washing powder allergy, it may be helpful to rinse with extra water (extra rinse cycle). This can be set with the extra water switch:
Position 1: Suds cooling
The suds are cooled down before being pumped out at the end of the main wash (by adding cold water). This reduces thermal shock to fabrics, helping to prevent creasing. (This setting is only effective for COTTONS/LINEN at a temperature of above 40 °C.)
Position 2: Suds cooling and extra rinse
The water is cooled down as for position 1, in addition to this (except for WOOLLENS) an extra rinse cycle is carried out.
On delivery of the machine the extra water switch is in the 0 position.
[i] Due to the process of cooling down the suds or an extra rinse cycle, the water consumption and wash time is increased.
Setting:
Pull out the soap drawer until the extra water switch on the left of the frame is accessible.
Set the extra water switch to 1 (suds cooling) or 2 (suds cooling and extra rinse).

Child safety device
In order to protect a program setting from being accidentally changed (e.g. turning the program selector, pressing extra keys, etc.), you can set the child safety device. This prevents children from damaging your washing.
The child safety device can also be set and cancelled whilst a program is running.
Set the child safety device:
Set the desired program.
Press the START/PAUSE button.
Keep the PRE WASH and SOAKING button pressed down simultaneously for 5 seconds. The program progress display flashes for five seconds; the child safety device is set.
If an attempt is made during the washing cycle to change the setting selected by pressing a button, the program progress display flashes for five seconds.
If an attempt is made to change the setting selected by turning the program selector, the program progress display flashes until the program selector is reset to its original setting. The washing cycle is not affected in either case.
i As long as the child safety device is set you cannot make any other settings. The door cannot be opened with the DOOR/LIGHT button. Also after the washing cycle has finished you first have to cancel the child safety device before you can open the door.
Cancelling the child safety device:
Keep the PRE WASH and SOAKING buttons pressed simultaneously for five seconds. The program progress display flashes for five seconds, after this it lights up continuously for five seconds; the child safety device is cancelled.
If the program selector is altered during a washing cycle, with the child safety device activated, the program progress display flashes:
If this happens turn the program selector back to its original position. The program progress displays stops flashing and is constantly illuminated.
Cancel the child safety device.
