Frequently Asked Questions - MD 7800 RCF

How do I connect the RCF MD 7800 microphone to a mixer?
Use a balanced shielded XLR cable. Connect the female XLR to the microphone and the male XLR to the mixer's mic input. Ensure the connection is secure. If the cable is short (max 5 m) and no phantom power is needed, an unbalanced connection is possible but not recommended.
Does the MD 7800 require phantom power?
No, the MD 7800 is a dynamic microphone and does not require phantom power. It is self-powered and works with standard microphone inputs.
What is the frequency response of the MD 7800?
The frequency response is 60 Hz to 20 kHz with a tailored curve that emphasizes clarity for vocals. Key points: at 60 Hz: -7.5 dB, 200 Hz: 0 dB, 1 kHz: -2.5 dB, 5 kHz: +5 dB, 10 kHz: +7.5 dB, 20 kHz: -2.5 dB.
How can I avoid feedback when using the MD 7800?
To avoid feedback, do not aim the microphone toward loudspeakers. Keep the microphone close to the sound source (e.g., mouth) and use a unidirectional pickup pattern to reject off-axis sound. Adjust the mixer's gain and EQ to minimize feedback frequencies.
Can I use the MD 7800 with a computer?
Yes, but you need an audio interface with a microphone preamp and XLR input. The MD 7800 has a low output level, so a preamp is essential. Connect via a balanced XLR cable to the interface, then to your computer via USB or other connection.
How should I clean and maintain the MD 7800?
Clean the exterior with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use solvents, alcohol, benzene, or other volatile substances. Protect the cable from damage and avoid exposing the microphone to excessive heat, rain, or humidity. Store in the provided soft case.
What type of cable is recommended for the MD 7800?
A balanced shielded microphone cable with XLR connectors is recommended. The cable should be kept as short as practical to reduce noise. Unbalanced cables can be used for short runs (max 5 m) but may increase noise susceptibility.
Is the MD 7800 suitable for vocal performances?
Yes, the MD 7800 is specifically designed for vocal applications. Its unidirectional pattern rejects background noise, and the tailored frequency response emphasizes presence and clarity. The built-in anti-pop filter reduces plosives.
How do I replace the pop filter on the MD 7800?
The MD 7800 has a built-in internal pop filter that is not user-replaceable. If the filter becomes damaged or clogged, contact an authorized RCF service center for repair. Do not attempt to disassemble the microphone yourself.
What is the warranty for the MD 7800?
RCF provides a standard warranty covering manufacturing defects. The exact duration may vary by region. For warranty service, keep your proof of purchase and contact your dealer or an authorized RCF service center. The warranty does not cover damage from misuse or unauthorized repairs.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

  1. All the precautions, in particular the safety ones, must be read with special attention, as they provide important information.

  2. Make sure all connections have been made correctly before switching all devices on.

  3. Protect the mic. cable from damage; make sure it is positioned where it cannot be stepped on or crushed by objects.

  4. Do not put the microphone into water (or another liquid), do not throw it.

  5. Never attempt to carry out any operations, modifications or repairs. If the microphone does not work properly, contact your authorized service centre.

  6. If the "Phantom" power supply is present at the connected mixer input, make sure the mic. cable is balanced.

  7. Should the microphone emit any strange odour or even smoke, turn the sound system off immediately, then disconnect the microphone.

  8. Use dedicated accessories only.

  9. RCF S.p.A. strongly recommends the sound system installation is only made by professional qualified installers (or specialised firms), who can certify it according to the regulations in force. The entire audio system must comply with the current standards and regulations regarding electrical systems.

  10. There are numerous mechanical and electrical factors to be considered when installing a professional audio system (in addition to those which are strictly acoustic, such as sound pressure, angles of coverage, frequency response, etc.).

  11. Do not aim the microphone to near loudspeakers, in order to avoid feedback.

12. HEARING LOSS

Exposure to high sound levels can cause permanent hearing loss. The acoustic pressure level that leads to hearing loss is different from person to person and depends on the duration of exposure. To prevent potentially dangerous exposure to high levels of acoustic pressure, anyone who is exposed to these levels should use adequate protection devices. When a transducer capable of producing high sound levels is being used, it is therefore necessary to wear ear plugs or protective earphones.

  1. Microphones are to be connected in phase, in order to guarantee a proper sound reproduction, especially when microphones are adjacent one another.

  2. To prevent inductive effects from causing hum, noise and a bad system working, mic. cables should be shielded, balanced and not be laid together with other electric cables (mains) and loudspeaker lines.

  3. Keep the microphone far from any excessive heat source. Do not use solvents, alcohol, benzene or other volatile substances for cleaning the external parts.

RCF S.p.A. would like to thank you for purchasing this product, which has been designed to guarantee reliability and high performance.
