Frequently Asked Questions - LBS008A Black Box

How do I power the LBS008A switch?
You can power the switch using either the included 7.5 VDC power adapter or the provided USB cable. The switch supports USB port-powered operation, ideal for areas with limited power outlets.
What is the maximum data transfer rate per port?
Each port supports 10/100 Mbps with auto-negotiation. In full-duplex mode, each port provides dedicated 200 Mbps bandwidth (100 Mbps each way).
Do I need crossover cables to connect the switch to another switch?
No. The switch features Auto MDI/MDI-X on all ports, automatically detecting and configuring the correct cable type. You can use standard straight-through cables.
How do I interpret the LED indicators?
The Power LED lights solid when power is on. Each LINK/ACT LED lights solid when a port is connected and flashes when data is being transmitted or received. If an LED is off, the port is not connected.
What is the difference between the LBS005A and LBS008A?
The LBS005A has 5 ports, 2K MAC addresses, and 12K buffer memory. The LBS008A has 8 ports, 1K MAC addresses, and 68K buffer memory. Both share similar dimensions and features.
Can I use this switch in a home network?
Yes, it is a Class B device suitable for residential use. It is compact, fanless, and plug-and-play, making it ideal for small to medium workgroups or home networks.
Is the switch managed or unmanaged?
It is an unmanaged switch. There is no configuration required; simply connect devices and power on. It automatically learns network settings and negotiates speed/duplex.
What type of cables should I use?
For 10BASE-T use CAT3/4/5 UTP/STP cable. For 100BASE-TX use CAT5 UTP/STP cable. Shielded cables are recommended for FCC compliance.
How do I troubleshoot if the switch is not working?
Check the power LED to ensure power is on. Verify cable connections and try different ports or cables. Ensure connected devices are powered on and that the network settings (speed/duplex) are set to auto-negotiation.
Does the switch support flow control?
Yes, it supports IEEE 802.3x flow control for full-duplex mode and backpressure flow control for half-duplex mode to prevent packet loss.
