How do I thread the Baby Lock Serenade BLSN?

Raise the presser foot, turn the handwheel to raise the take-up lever, then follow the numbered threading path. Ensure the thread passes through the tension discs and the take-up lever. Finally, thread the needle from front to back.

How do I wind the bobbin?

Place the thread on the spool pin, guide it through the bobbin winder tension disc, then wrap it around the bobbin. Push the bobbin winder pin to the right and start sewing slowly. The machine will stop automatically when full.

Why is my machine skipping stitches?

Check the needle for damage or bending. Ensure you are using the correct needle type and size for your fabric. Also verify the needle is inserted correctly and the thread tension is appropriate.

How do I adjust thread tension?

The upper tension is adjusted with the dial on the front of the machine. For normal sewing, the dial should be set between 3 and 5. The bobbin tension is factory-set and should not need adjustment.

How do I clean and oil this machine?

Remove the needle plate and clean the feed dogs and bobbin area with a soft brush. Add one drop of sewing machine oil to the specified points (see manual) every few hours of use. Wipe excess oil.

What needle should I use for different fabrics?

For lightweight fabrics (silk, cotton), use a #11 or #14 needle. For medium weight (denim, linen), use #14 or #16. For heavy fabrics (canvas, leather), use #18. Always use a fresh needle for best results.

How do I sew a buttonhole?

Select the buttonhole stitch, attach the buttonhole foot, and place the button in the foot’s slide. Lower the foot and start sewing. The machine will sew four steps automatically, then stop.

Why is my fabric not feeding properly?

Check that the presser foot is lowered and the feed dogs are raised. Clean the feed dogs if they are clogged with lint. Also ensure the stitch length is not set to zero.

Can I sew denim with this machine?

Yes, use a #16 or #18 needle and a denim weight thread. Sew slowly, especially over thick seams. You may need to adjust the presser foot pressure (if adjustable) or use a walking foot.
