What is the Kathrein UFX 14?
The Kathrein UFX 14 is a digital modulator that converts up to 4 HDMI sources into DVB-T or DVB-C RF signals for distribution in TV systems.
What comes in the box?
The package includes the UFX 14 modulator itself and one power cable. HDMI cables and coaxial cables are not included.
How do I connect the UFX 14?
Connect HDMI sources to the rear HDMI inputs. Connect a 75Ω coaxial cable with F-connectors from the RF OUT to your distribution system. Plug in the power cord.
How do I set up the device for the first time?
After powering on, wait about 80 seconds for the LCD to show the IP address. Connect a PC via Ethernet to the same network, open a web browser, and enter the displayed IP. Default login: user admin, password 0000.
How do I configure the RF output frequency?
In the web GUI, go to the RF Setting tab. Select DVB-T or DVB-C mode, then adjust the frequency (177-858 MHz for T, 105-858 MHz for C), constellation, guard interval, and other parameters. Click Apply to save.
Can I change the IP address?
Yes. In the web GUI, go to the IP Configuration tab. Set the connection mode to Static or DHCP, enter the desired IP address, subnet mask, and gateway, then click Apply. The device will reboot if changed.
What video resolutions does the UFX 14 support?
It supports standard video resolutions including 480i/p, 576i/p, 720p, and 1080i/p at up to 30 fps. The maximum is 1080p 25/30.
How do I change the service name or channel number?
In the Channel & Encode Setting tab, you can edit the Service Name, Service ID, and LCN (Logical Channel Number) for each HDMI input. After changes, click Apply.
How do I update the firmware?
In the Administration tab, under Software update, click Choose File to select the firmware file, then Upload. The device will reboot after the update.
How do I reset the device to factory defaults?
In the web GUI, go to Administration and click Load Default. Confirm by selecting Yes. The device will reboot with factory settings.

DIGITAL MODULATOR

1 GENERAL

1.1 Description

The UFX 14 module able to generate a signal in DVB-T/C format from HDMI input.

UFX 14 is H264 encoding, DVB-T/C modulation integrated device to convert HDMI signal to DVB-T/C RF out.

The UFX 14 module adjusts the compression rate to the available bandwidth, using the modulation DVB-T/C parameters.

2 INSTALLATION

2.1 What's in the Box

2.2 Connection

The UFX 14 unit comes standard with HDMI inputs.

Use a quality 75Ω coaxial cable with "F" connectors from the unit's RF OUT jack to the distribution system or directly to a television.

Connect the power cord to an appropriately rated AC power outlet.

Once connected to power, the device turns on and it takes about 20 seconds to be operational. Then the message "Initial Please wait" appears on the display. After 60 seconds the message "Status (Enter) & IP Address 192.*.*." on the display.

2.2.1 DEVICE Programming and Setup

Connect an Ethernet cable directly (no Cross Over cable required) to the Ethernet Port on the rear panel of the modulator or connect the Ethernet cable to an Ethernet switch. Connect an Ethernet Cable to your PC.

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable directly to the Ethernet port on the rear panel of the modulator or connect the Ethernet cable to an Ethernet switch /router. Connect an Ethernet Cable to your PC.

  3. Check IP address from front panel display.
