Tide Clock
Welcome to your ClimeMET weather dial, designed by a team of outdoor enthusiasts in rural Suffolk. Let us help you make the most of the great outdoors.
Our ClimeMET Tide Clock is designed to provide an indication of how many hours remain until high and low water, perfect for those who love sailing, surfing or dog walks on the beach. Pair with one of our ClimeMET Clocks to create your very own 'time and tide' set, ideal for coastal living.
Features
Measurement range: 12 hour 25 minute tide cycle.
Location
Position your tide clock in an area where it can remain undisturbed. Do not position in direct sunlight and avoid sources of heat.
Setting Up Your Tide Clock
- Establish your local high tide time by referring to a local tide table or www.bbc.co.uk/weather/coast_and_sea/tide_tables
- Insert a battery with the correct polarity. You should hear a faint ticking from the mechanism.
- At exactly high tide, set the clock to high tide/high water with the needle pointing straight up to a 12 o'clock position. You can adjust the hand by turning the small cog on the back of the dial. For best accuracy, set or re-set the tide clock on the day of a full moon.
- Hang the tide clock in your desired location using the keyhole fitting on the back.
Reading Your Tide Clock
- The numbers around the tide clock give an indication of hours remaining until high and low tide. The tide clock works on a timed mechanism taking 12 hours and 25 minutes for a complete rotation indicating two tidal 'bulges' during a lunar day.
- The tide cycle is actually 12 hours, 25 minutes and 14 seconds so over time, you will need to reset your tide clock to high tide/high water against a local tide table.
- Most tidal areas have two high tides and two low tides a day. However, some areas such as estuaries will have irregular tides and you may need to reset your tide clock more often.
- The lunar cycle isn't the only factor affecting the tide times. Atmospheric pressure, changing volume of river flows and strong winds also have an impact. Furthermore, the sun's own gravitational pull, when aligned with the moon during the full moon and new moon, creates higher and lower tides and can alter tide times by up to an hour.
- Due to the variable nature of tides, this tide clock is intended as a guide only and should not be used as a safety device.
Engraved dials and all mount boards are suitable for indoor use only. Weather dials requiring a battery can only be used outdoors with a battery cover and if sheltered.
