Frequently Asked Questions - K101-C KING

What voltage and power ratings does the King K101-C thermostat support?
The thermostat supports line voltages of 120V, 208V, 240V, and 277V AC. Maximum power ratings are 2640W at 120V, 4576W at 208V, 5280W at 240V, and 4986W at 277V, all at 22A.
How do I change the temperature display from Fahrenheit to Celsius?
Use a small flathead screwdriver to gently pry off the control dial. Then align the pins on the desired scale dial (included) with the holes on the thermostat knob and push until secured.
What is the temperature range of the King K101-C thermostat?
The operating temperature range is 41°F to 90°F (3°C to 32°C).
How do I install the King K101-C thermostat?
Turn off power at the circuit breaker. Mount the thermostat to a standard 2x4 inch vertical electrical outlet box. Connect the red LINE lead to L1 from the panel, black LOAD lead to the heater line, and neutral (L2) to the heater remaining line. Secure ground wire to the junction box ground screw. Install indoors 4.5 to 5 feet above the floor, away from heat sources and drafts.
Is this thermostat suitable for heating systems?
No, the King K101-C is a cooling thermostat designed for line voltage cooling systems only.
How do I set the desired temperature?
Turn the dial clockwise to lower the setpoint (call for cooling). When the room reaches the desired temperature, turn the knob counter clockwise until you hear a click. Leave it at that position to maintain temperature. Turning fully counter clockwise sets the thermostat to 90°F (maximum cut-out).
What does the clicking sound indicate?
The click indicates the thermostat's internal switch has opened or closed. When adjusting the dial, the click marks the point where the setpoint is reached and the cooling system turns off or on.
Can I use this thermostat outdoors?
No, the King K101-C is designed for indoor use only. Exposure to moisture or extreme temperatures can cause damage and inaccurate readings.
Does the thermostat require a ground wire?
No, the thermostat has a no ground wire design. However, the junction box must be grounded according to local codes; connect the ground wire to the ground screw in the box.
What safety precautions should I take before installation?
Always turn off power at the circuit breaker before installation. Read all wire sizing, voltage requirements, and safety data. Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician to avoid electric shock or fire hazard.
