Frequently Asked Questions - ACT12 Chord

How does the Chord ACT12 tuner power on?
The tuner powers on automatically when you open the clip and clamp it onto the headstock. The pressure pads inside the clip switch on the power.
How do I know if my instrument is in tune?
The LED display shows the note name and a virtual needle. If the needle is centered and the display turns green, the note is in tune. Red means flat, orange means sharp.
What battery does the ACT12 use?
It uses a CR2032 coin cell battery, which is included with the tuner.
How do I replace the battery?
Open the battery compartment, insert the CR2032 battery with the ‘+’ side visible, following the diagram inside the compartment.
What tuning notes does it support?
It supports all standard notes: C, C#, D, Eb, E, F, F#, G, G#, A, Bb, B.
What is the tuning range?
The tuning range is from A0 to C8, covering all common instrument pitches.
Why does my tuner turn off automatically?
The tuner features an auto-off function: it powers off when you remove the clip from the instrument or after 5 minutes without detecting any note.
How does the ACT12 detect pitch?
It uses a contact pickup that senses vibrations from the instrument when you play a note. The display then shows the nearest note and tuning status.
Is the tuner suitable for all instruments?
Yes, it can be used with any instrument that has a headstock where the clip can be attached, such as guitar, bass, violin, ukulele, etc.
Why is the display dim?
A dim display usually indicates that the battery needs replacement. Remove the old CR2032 and install a new one.

Battery

Install the supplied CR2032 battery as shown in the diagram.

Take care to ensure correct polarity.

The "+" side of the battery should be visible when installed.

This battery will need replacement if the display becomes dim.

Remove the battery if not in use for long periods.

Operation

Open the clip and clamp onto a headstock or other contact surface. Pressure pads in the clip will switch on the power.

Play a note and the contact pickup will detect the pitch - the display states the nearest note and a virtual needle shows the tuning status. If the note is not correct, tune the instrument closer to pitch until the correct note is shown.

If the needle is to the left, the note is flat and the display will be lit in a red colour. If the needle is in the centre, the note is in tune and the display will be lit in a green colour. If the needle is to the right, the note is sharp and the display will be lit in an orange colour.
